One of my best friends decided to have a go at writing a novel a few years back. He sent it out to a bunch of publishers, it got picked up, and it's finally being released in the U.S. tomorrow. For our foreign members, it's also being published in a number of foreign countries, but I don't know when or which ones).

It's a thriller set in Chicago about a job that goes horribly wrong. One friend gets sent to prison, the other quits "the life". Seven years pass and the friend gets out of prison and after serving all that time without ever dropping his partner's name, he feels like his friend owes him -- and he's willing to do anything to get his payback.

I've read it and it's great and it not even the type of book I tend to read (not nearly enough fantastical elements or pictures (see: comics) for my usual tastes). Obviously, I'm biased, so here are some more objective (though equally stellar and more eloquent) initial reviews: http://marcussakey.com/reviews.php

I figured I'd do my part and give my buddy a little free PR in my "little corner of the internet". Here's the amazon.com link if you'd like to order it. If not, it should be in your local bookstore tomorrow.

It's a good read. It really drew me in and once I started reading it, I found it hard to put down.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip. I'm not a huge fan of this genre, but good reads are hard to find. That Publishers Weekly blurb is very impressive: "Sakey's brilliant debut, a crime novel set in Chicago, is a must read." Can't beat that. :)

Is he working on any thing else? Does he have a book deal now?

He has a two book deal at the moment. He finished his second novel in September and it's currently in the editing process. It's another thriller set in Chicago, but a much more intricate/complex plot.

Are they linked? I prefer to read a series and like to wait until a few are out so I can read them back-to-back.

No, they are stand alone novels, not a part of a series.

Added this to my amazon.co.uk wishlist, but the Euro-release is not until April.

Cool! It's even being published in Swedish, so you can buy some copies for the local ladies. ;)

Not something I usually read, but I'll probably pick it up at some point. Sounds interesting.

Haha, nice.. I personally prefer the English versions of books though :) (if that's the original language of course).
