To kick off the discussion for tonight's game, check out the state by state results for the ESPN Poll question:

"How does your interest in tonight's BCS Championship game compare to last year's Rose Bowl between USC and Texas."

Surprising results...

I'll tune in while I play Civ IV. I think I am more interested this year because I get to watch the game.

Last year I had to work at the bowling alley and only got to watch the last 5 minutes when the place had emptied out. I guess if I got to watch any part of the game, those 5 minutes were good ones to see.

My guess is people are less interested because everyone thinks OSU will walk over Florida. I am hoping for a competitive game. I hope OSU doesn't blow them out.

Honestly, I don't even know if I'm going to watch any of the game tonight. I'll probably check the score periodically online, and if it's a close game in the fourth quarter, I'll turn it on. Otherwise, I'll probably just be playing something on the Xbox 360 durin the game.

To all of you who will be watching, I hope it's a good game.

I'll likely watch after I get home from the gym around 9pm. Hopefully the game is boring or a blowout, so i won't feel guilty for firing up the PS2 shortly after halftime.

Ohio State v. Florida for the Title, this is like asking who was your favorite, Stalin or Hitler?

I'll be pulling for a surprise announcement from the NCAA at Halftime of tonight's game, giving each of these programs the Death Penalty beginning immediately, and then giving the National Title to the only eligible undefeated team in America, the Boise State University Broncos.

As an SEC fan, I'm definitely interested this year... I'm very curious to see how this plays out and will be happy if UF wins despite hating them, if nothing else so that I can laugh at st. cronin ;)..

However, I'll say now so that people can't say I'm just saying it if UF looks bad - I just don't see how playing a game almost 2 months after your season was over is a true indication of which team is better. It seems more of an indication of who handled the layoff better. (and yes, I'm aware that OSU's layoff is a couple of weeks longer than OSU, but my point still stands overall)

I'm fine with a hold being ignored if it doesn't influence the play in any shape or form... i think ;)...

I was a big proponent of refs swallowing the whistle on a hold nowhere near the play, mostly due to one Rutgers game where they called holding on a WR who was a good 30 yards away from the play.

But as I started thinking about it more...how can you say a defender is really out of the play? What happens if the guy being held has world-class speed, and could've caught up to the RB/WR, especially if he's the type that would mix in east-west running that would allow more time to catch up? Think about that play by Ben Watson last year against Denver, when he came out of nowhere to blow up Champ Bailey, and nearly got credit for a game-changing play (on a game-changing play, the other way).

I guess it's a better topic for another day...but I just have a problem with refs making subjective calls of already subjective penalties.

I understand that, and I think that falls more in line with the old "holding can be called on every play if you really wanted to." I'm just saying if it's a clear hold somewhere on the field, it should be a penalty. You shouldn't overlook it just because you think the guy couldn't have made a play on the ball.

I'd agree with that. While Michigan and Texas were very good this season, they too were also somewhat overrated (as you can see by Michigan's bowl appearence and Texas's loss to A&M and near loss to Iowa). Other than those two teams, who else of caliber did Ohio State beat this season?

Keep in mind that I'm a big Penn State fan, and I'll be the first to admit that we were the most overrated 9-4 team in the history of college football.

Still, there is absolutely no reason for the PSU offense to be as bad as it was this year. Derrick Williams, Tony Hunt, that new TE (honestly can't think of his name right now), Morelli struggled horribly. Fortuntaely, he looked like he made strides during the bowl game which gives me hope for next year. But, I would definitely have Morelli on a short leash with Devlin right behind him.

You are exactly right. Quarless (the TE) is going to be a big weapon for PSU next year. Williams was really disappointing this year. I dont know if he still felt the ill effects from the injury or not this year. The thing that frustrated me the most was the play calling. They weren't running routes over the middle and because so predictable.

They are going to need a running back next year. Austin Scott is going to have to step up and finally live up to his hype. I am a big Morelli fan to be honest. I think a lot of his problems had to do with his protection and the predictability of the offense. Add to the fact that they only throw the ball outside the hashes and it makes it easy for people to defend him. But there is one thing i did notice. Before he throws the ball he pats it, giving the defensive back a sneak peak where he is throwing it.

Ding! That's exactly what I was getting at. And I do agree with you that I think Morelli got a little too much blame (such as the rumors that he was too dumb to get the offense) and it was really the play-calling that was pretty bad at spots.

I wonder if that's is because Jay Paterno got a couple of his own playcalls in.

Or having 50+ days between your final regular season game and your bowl game.

The Big Ten hurt themselves in two ways. If that Michigan vs Ohio State game happens a few weeks later, Florida doesn't jump Michigan because the poll after the UM/tOSU game had UM #2. Two weeks and games later Florida jumps UM.

By ending the season before thanksgiving also makes Ohio State wait 51 days to play the title game. Maybe they should give the teams a bye week and end the conference season a week later.
