On your next (current) generation console(s) with games/accessories?

Here is mine:

Nintendo Wii (w/ Wii Sports, 1 Remote + 1 Nunchuk included) $250

1 extra Remote $40
1 extra Nunchuk $20
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess $50
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves $50

Sort of counts (Gamecube stuff I got to play on my Wii):
Off-brand GC controller $8
Memory Card $20
Metroid Prime $8
Rogue Squadron II $10
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker $0 (woot)

Wii specific total: $410
Including last-gen stuff to play on current-gen: $456

How about you? If you overspent on something (like ebaying your console to get it sooner) then count what you spent!

Not that I wouldn't love a 360 or a Wii, but we're saving money for a house now. Alas...

$0 - My Wii and the games I have for it were all gifts.

Normal price for the 360, one game in a year (although I rent games so I guess that counts....). So that's about $500 with tax for stuff I bought.

Just added a wireless controller and Ninety Nine Nights for $18. That was a good deal.

Edit: Forgot Viva Pinata for the kid. So I guess that is up to about $600

We have an XBox 360 sitting in a box, which we did not pay for, but we have yet to decide whether the investment of a hundred bucks or so into buying a couple games (and more specifically the time it would take to play them) is worth it. We may end up just gifting it to someone in our family.

God, I don't even want to add it up.

I have a PS2, Xbox, Xbox360, Wii. For all of them I've bought some accessories like extra controllers, memory cards, etc. And more games than I'd like to admit. Though only 30 or 40 stay in my collection. The others get traded off or given to friends.

Can you just add up the 360 and Wii stuff? That's mainly the question. I included the Gamecube stuff since I bought it for use solely with my Wii. But it was only sort of relevant.

Let's see:

I got the 360 on launch in a bundle with 3 games (Madden, Kameo, NBA Live) and an extra controller for $620.
Play And Charge Kit - $20
Transfer Kit - $15
Memory Card - $25
All games I spent $60 on: NCAA Football 2007, NBA 2K6, College Hoops 2K6, MLB 2K6, Call Of Duty 2, Oblivion, Smackdown vs. RAW 2007
Top Spin 2 - $40

$1,140

The only one of those games I still have is Smackdown vs. RAW, everything else I've sold on EBay. I'm also going to be picking up a PS2 solely for MLB The Show '07.

Hmm:

XBox 360 for the kids - Xmas gift from their Grandmother
XBox 360 games 1-10 - Gifts from various family members for the kids
XBox 360 games 11-15 - Purchased by kids from Xmas + Birthday stash

Grand Total: $0

I'm feeling pretty good about it.

My XBox 360 was a gift from my wife, so I didn't pay for that. Now if I try to remember all the games I've bought and the prices I paid for them...

Project Gotham Racing 3 - $60
MLB 2K6 (ugh) - $60
Madden 07 Hall of Fame Edition (ugh) - $70
Dead Rising - $60
Saints Row - $60
NHL 07 - $60
NHL 2K7 - $60
NBA 2K6 - $60
NBA 2K7 - $60
College Hoops 2K6 - $60
College Hoops 2K7 - $60
Viva Pinata - $50
Hitman: Blood Money - $60
NCAA Football 07 - $60
Test Drive Unlimited - $40
Sneak King - $4
Pocket Bike Racer - $4
Big Bumpin' - $4
Rockstar Table Tennis - $40
Top Spin 2 - $40

That's $972 on games alone. Throw in the additional controller I bought (which I mainly only use on my PC) to add on $40, and then the VGA cable for another $40, and we're up to $1052. I've bought a few things from the XBox Live Marketplace and XBox Live Arcade, so I'm going to guess another $40 there, and I had to renew my XBox Live subscription soon after I bought the system, so that was $50. Add in game rentals over the past year, and it's probably around another $150.

Ballpark figure: $1300, and, as I mentioned, that doesn't even include the cost of the system.

I bought a 360, a wireless network adapter and 2 games. I've rented everything else for around $17 a month from gameznflix.com.

That kind of accounting practice doesn't fly in our household.

Oh my!

Xbox 360 - $400

My $60 games - Tony Hawk: Wasteland, Tiger Woods '06, Oblivion, Saints Row, Burnout, Fight Night, Ghost Recon, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Viva Pinta, Chromehounds, The Godfather, Prey, Dead Rising, Enchanted Arms, Battlefield 2, College Hoops 2K7, NCAA Football 2007, Just Cause, Lego Star Wars II, PGR, Splinter Cell,

Gun - $20
Perfect Dark - $30
Xbox Live Arcade - $130

Xbox 360 Total: $2050

Wii - $250

TroyF

Ok. . . If I have to just go with the Wii and 360

Wii - 250
1GB memory card, extra controller, 2 games $150 or so

XBox 360 - $400
Extra controller, wireless adapter, charging kit - $125
Misc things on Live - $25

Oblivion, Gears of War, Madden '06 and '07, Ncaa football '07, NCAA2K '06 and '07, NBA2K '06 and '07, NHL2K7, MLB2K6 (ugh), Burnout, NFS Most Wanted, Perfect Dark Zero, Call of Duty 2. I'm sure I'm missing a few games, so I'll just add in another 5 games to bring it up to 20 to be safe. $1,200.

So that's $400 for the Wii, $550 for the 360 without games and then 1,200 worth of games. $2,150 total.

Now, a lot of that doesn't include trades and the like. I'm sure you could wipe out a few hundred of that total bill on that.

All in all, I guess I'm pretty happy with that total. I rarely drink, I don't smoke, I don't buy DVD's or a lot of CD's, I don't go to the movies that often, I don't eat out very often. That's actually less than I figured it'd be.

Not that it's normal for anyone else, but I'm ok with it. :)

I've spent about $650 on my Xbox 360 and it's accessories/games.

Trying not to think much about it to be honest* (I've got the 360 and Wii at the moment .... would like to say I've 'chosen' not to get a PS3 yet ... but errr its not available in Europe ...).

*More accurately - trying not to remind my wife ;)

Wow. I just can't get over the sheer number of $60 games that people buy. And I know in 3 years, some of those are going to be "why did I buy those" games? And not just 1 or 2 but a decent number. I don't think I will ever understand the sports game treadmill of buying the same game every year for full price...

Because just downloading new rosters isn't enough. :)

Edit--Seriously though, if you're playing online you have to keep up with the Joneses to play games. I don't play many games online; I just buy it to get the one or two new features.

I think this is the attitude of a lot of people and I've never really understood it. People spend thousands of dollars on season tickets to sporting events every year. They take trips around the world that cost tons of money. Some people spend hundreds to thousands a year on wine, ciggies and beer. Others have DVD collections the size of my house and CD collections that take up twenty cases. I'm not even counting my friends with $300 a month car payments.

Why should ANYONE be asking the question "why did I buy those games?" It's our hobby. It's what we do for fun. The fact is, most people aren't going to regret spending the money. Yeah, there will be a few who will regret it. A few others will regret it because other people have told them they should.

And the majority of us will still be buying the games in three years. We'll still be buying in 7 years. And in 15 years I'll be playing the games with my son or daughter.

It's what we enjoy to do. Of all the major problems I can have in my life and things I regret now or know I'll probably regret later, buying and playing video games is a pretty minor issue I think.

Gears of War, Madden '06 and '07 (ugh), Ncaa football '07, NCAA2K '06 and '07, NBA2K '06 and '07, NHL2K7, Burnout, Dead Rising, Hitman, Viva Pinata, and probably 1 or 2 others which are escaping my mind. All together, I've bought about 15 games over the last 16 months since I got it at launch.

So that is $600 for the 360 and accessories and then 900 worth of games. $1,500 total.

Gaming is my most expensive hobby and I've gotten many hours of enjoyment out those games, so it's all good. Also, when my younger step-brother eventually gets a 360, I'll give him some of the games that I don't play any longer.

Edit: I meant brother-in-law, not step brother.

You know you could go to your nearest favorite mega-movie rental store and rent a 360 game or two to see whether it's something you'd enjoy keeping, right?

Seems like if you haven't already taken it out of the box and played with it that your decision has already been made.
