You've mentioned that you are going through the undergraduate program at St. John's College, known for its heavy focus on the "great books of Western civ". I'm under the impression that the program is linear historical progression: ancient thought in the first couple of years, progressing to more contemporary thought by the senior year. So based on this understanding:

- What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of your program, especially in comparison to a more orthodox undergraduate program?

- How much of what you are learning in the program colors your thinking (e.g., the positions you stake out on contemporary policy issues)?

- I presume that you haven't, in your program, encountered enlightenment thought (and related concepts like the scientific method, empiricism, etc) and other modes of thought that have great relevance to the world of today.
