View Full Version : What to do with a broken PS2?

I bought my new PS2 slim model last fall in October. A few weeks ago I went to put a game in and the disc couldn't be read. (The system went directly to the browser) I've tried every single game disc I own and I keep getting the same result. A friend recommended I manually move the disc reader that contains the lens to the inside of the unit before putting a disc in to see if that made a difference (as if the arm were mechanically stuck) but no luck there either.

Unfortunately after I bought the thing I've since discarded the box and materials and I couldn't even say where the receipt for it is. I'm guessing with this being the case I can't send it back to Sony for repairs unless they can somehow confirm by the S/N that it should still be under warranty.

Does anyone have any experience with getting their PS2 repaired? Is it even worth pursuing at this point?

They might be able to tell that it is still under warranty by getting the machine serial number.

I believe that when you purchased it, they rang up your serial number, so like kodos said, there is a good chance they can tell that it is still under warranty.

I think you can only wash the original PS2s in the sink, you might have to take the slimline PS2s to the dry cleaner to clean.

Good luck with Sony.
I swore them off after having the SAME problem. The manufactured date code on the bottom was only 4 months old, so the damn thing HAD to be under warranty. They said sorry no receipt no repair, but would be glad to fix it if I sent them $75 plus paid shipping both directions:rolleyes:

If it's not under warranty, buy a PS3.
