I'm having an issue where if I click on the 'Sent' folder, I get the hourglass icon with my cursor and it just shows a blank white screen. Is this just a sign that I need to empty that thing more frequently, or is there something more insidious at work here?

I just started using T'bird this afternoon oddly enough, so I'm far from an expert on it, but what you're describing sounds like it may be trying to rebuild the Summary File for that folder. Shouldn't take more than few minutes at most AFAIK, unless the folder was truly enormous.

edit to add: Although I hate to worry you about something that's probably nothing, it's odd that you mention this scenario. I had the same thing happen earlier today with SeaMonkey & my Sent folder ... which is why I installed Thunderbird today. I had assumed that it had something to do with all of the screwy stuff that happened when I was trying to recover the data lost in my recent harddrive crash, but now you've got me wondering if something else was afoot with my SeaMonkey problem (which was odd, in that there were only a few mails in that folder & I couldn't understand why it was trying & failing to rebuild already. I just figured it was caused by something odd during the previously failed attempts to restore my old "Sent" folder)

Yeah, it did that already for the inbox after my domain issues got squared away. I got about 300 emails landing in the inbox and it was too much for the poor thing.

The sent folder, though, I haven't clicked that in a while, so it may be that it needs proactive attention to rebuild the summary.

Okay, oddly, after I gave up on it and closed the program and then reloaded it, it built the summary file instantly.

So that has to have been the problem, but that was still damn weird.
