As a Chargers fan, I have to share this, even if it probably isn't really that big of a deal to anyone here and people could care less, I just find it funny how I see things and how kids see things...
I get a call from my youngest step daughter (who's 12) and proceeds to tell me that one of her good friends from elementary school and middle school is moving up to the San Francisco area because Marty lost his job.
I'm thinking, "Marty who?" and ask her who she is talking about. She says, "Come on, you know Marty from the Chargers!?" Ah, Marty Schotenheoaikhnoighoihmer, and I ask her what that has to do with her friend from school. So she said that since Marty isn't with the Chargers anymore her dad got a new job up in San Francisco and that they are moving next month and won't be too far from where we are going to be living.
So I asked if her friends dad worked for/with the Chargers and she said, "Yeah, but I don't know who he is, but they have to move. Hes been my friend since the second grade." She couldn't tell me the kids last name and said when she got home she'd look in her yearbook to see what his last name is. I had give her a hard time about not knowing her friends last name.
So, I get a call about 20 minutes later and she said that his last name is Menasky or however you say it and his dads first name is Greg. I asked her if she meant, Manusky and she said that was correct.
So, here I am, a big Chargers fan that has a step daughter that has a friend from school who was the Chargers' Linebackers coach for the last 4 years and she somehow failed to mention this to me one time and all I can think about is all the missed Chargers games I could have went to and she's excited that one of her friends from school in San Diego is going be close to us when everyone gets moved up here.
So yeah, the guy part of me was bummed because of the potential to get free tickets to Chargers games was missed, but, the other part of me was proud of my step daughter for not getting caught up in the glitz and the lights of the big show and isn't friends with him because of who his dad is, but is friends with him because of who the kid is.
Just thought I share that as I thought it was interesting.
