View Full Version : My SP is breaking down

I installed the patch during the 2024 season. I ran the table and lost the super bowl to finish 18-1. Now, going into camp, most of the CPU rosters have collapsed. Most of the teams are far under the player limit going into training camp. Some of the worst examples: Detroit has 21 players under contract and 25 mill in cap space. Dallas 24 players and 20 mil. KC 27 players and 17 mil.
Has anyone else seen this? I can't say with 100% certainty that this pattern didn't start last year (i.e. before the patch), but it's clear now.

your year-by-year cap increase probably isn't keeping pace with player salaries. That's almost always the reason for this. The AI teams don't have enough cap space to function properly. In your examples, they can't afford to fill their rosters, so they wait until after camp when salaries are at their lowest.

I see a team do this every now and then and not too long after that, they are back in the race.

I do have the salary cap increase turned down. I guess I won't do this in the future.

I have default cap numbers and I have a team with 0 players and 200mil in dead cap space after FA in SP. No matter how many times I reload, they always cut the rest of their players in FA1

Yeah, I saw some team basically go "empty cupboard" the other day as well.

I think with mine, it's been a few seasons in the making. They only had like 10 players under contract when I clicked over to the new season (the rest were all RFA scrubs they had signed the year before). Once FA1 started, they cut the rest.

Yeah, I've seen this as well. Cut some great players to boot.
They also had no draft picks for that year either, which I thought was weird or maybe penalties for going over the cap or something?

So what happens when they don't have enough players? This is a serious bug. Does this always happen? Has Jim addressed this?

They sign a bunch of FA for the league minimums.

A critical issue here is when does it happen. If you're seeing it in the first 4-8 years of a fictional start, this may be just a quirk of that type of gamestart.

How many years post-patch?

How many years post-patch?
I think the first full season after. As I said for me, they had only 10 guys going into FA and then when FA started they cut the rest.

I'm not positive how long after the latest patch, but it was either right before it, or right after it. Anyhow, it's no biggie to me.. only 1 team is like this over the past few years or so. The thing I love is how #1 picks are all still on the same team they were drafted and how top notch QB's stay with the same team for years.. much improved from v2004.
There is not much for me to complain about in all honesty.
I can see how some folks like to play older verisons of sims, but after playing 2007 as much as I have, I'll NEVER go back to a previous version of FOF.

After waiting to see if anyone wanted to see my file (noone did) I ran the training camp section. Afterwards, all the rosters were full. In the transactions log I saw that Detroit signed 32 free agents "pre-training camp". Their QB is in his 9th season. He was taken first overall way back when. He is now eating up 47 million of their cap (currently 172 million). Does this sound right? I think Manning is the highest paid player right now in RL. Does he eat up roughly 27 percent of thier cap?
In case you're wondering, I am playing on the easiest setting since it was my first run ever in FOF.
