Based on an old-as-dirt Apple game. Fighters will be generated randomly, with points distributed across the following attributes. Starting values are 3-18. Tournaments will be staged, fighters will grow in skill or take repeated beatings. Fun will be had by the winners.

I allowed one rollover since the initial character was just terrible. I'll put in a house rule that states that all FOFC characters weighing in under 160 pounds get a single mulligan.
If someone would prefer to have a lighter character (who will be mercilessly pounded) then let me know and I'll forego the one rollover.

The virtual game is pretty tempermental; I've already had to re-roll my initial character. I'll keep moving this along as long as the game doesn't crash on me but if the build is unstable (wasn't for first couple of hours I played) then this may be a very short-lived dynasty.

I loved this game back in the Day, used to spend hours running tournaments on my Computer in full monochrome baby!
I'm in.

I'm going to run with the name "RipSavage" just to make sure there are no complications with the space here. Looks like exceeding 8 characters in a name is not an issue.

I'll run the first tournament this evening. I'll make it an eight man tournament, with four fighters generated with the intention of being cannon fodder. They will all be some combination of small (less than 160) and unskilled (less than 12 average) - hopefully these guys will allow our fighters to get off to a promising start before being matched up against each other in the second round.

Nope, not too late. I'm happy to run the tourney tonight with eight (or more) FOFC people if I have the signups by then. I believe tournaments can get as big as 32 participants.
For those who might be interested in dredging this up themselves, I think I found something to help with the stability. I'm running the game in Firefox with a couple of plug-ins. There was a plug-in setting that allows me to store data locally, which at this point seems to protect from the game hanging. Prior to this, when the game hung I lost my saved characters which would have made for a pretty brief dynasty thread. Hopefully this change eliminates the last thread to the character results, as the growth of the fighters is what I consider the most fun part of the game.

I'll stage the first tournament to pit the first four signed up on one side of the bracket against the newcomers.
First round matchups look like this:
Day-Ne vs Hunter: Hunter has a little more size, pretty even skill. He should win a very close contest.
RipSavage vs Budd: another very close matchup, with RS having a skill edge but Budd having weight. Give it to Rip.
DirkDiggler vs CoffeeWarlord: this should be a big win for Dirk, who is much more skilled than his foe.
Izulde vs Swaggs: Izulde is too big for Swaggs, who is going to need to steal wins or train like crazy if he wants to win against this competition.

BigJeff will make his way into the next tournament.
Round 1 results:
Hunter starts fight with back-to-back hits. Day-ne responds with a kick late in 1st period. He ties it up early in 2nd with a punch. Both fighters are exhausted when Hunter closes the period with a punch to the jaw. He lands a kick early in 3rd to take control of match. Day-Ne is swinging wildly by the end, losing a 6-2 match that was competitive most of the way.
Low scoring affair throughout, Rip's defense was outstanding. He got a late hit on Budd to ice the 3-1 victory.
Diggler gets the scoring started with a straight punch to the face of CW. But the Warlord ties it with a spin kick early in the 2nd. Diggler moves back ahead, answering with his own spin kick. Both fighters are battling fatigue. Dirk lands a late kick to advance 3-1.
Swaggs starts scoring, but Izulde answers quickly. Swaggs is on the attack again, taking a 2-1 lead midway through 1st. A roundhouse kick to the face puts him up 3-1. He seems to realize how important it is for him to collect wins now. Neither fighter connects in 3rd.
Round 2 matchups:
Hunter vs RipSavage
DirkDiggler vs Swaggs
Look for Dirk to advance to finals. I'll take Rip to win against Hunter in what I would coin a mild upset.

Round 2 results:
Hunter hits first, staggering Rip with a punch. They then trade glancing blows, but Hunter is relentless! He moves ahead 4-1 at the end of the first, as Rip has no defense. Rip decides to go on the attack in 2nd period, but Hunter answers with a knockdown. This has been a dominant showing, as he leads 6-2 after two. Hunter has a ready-made KO opportunity, but doesn't close the deal in the 3rd. Final score is 6-3.
Swaggs lands the first shot against Dirk, a front kick to the chest. But Dirk answers to tie it at 1 after the first period. Dirk staggers Swaggs with a front kick midway through the second. Both fighters are keeping a strong defense up so far. Dirk pulls ahead 3-1 with a spin kick - Swaggs is in deep trouble now. Final score is 4-1. No one is ready to get knockouts just yet, it appears.
Championship match:
Hunter vs DirkDiggler
I pick Dirk to take home the championship trophy and Hunter to earn the foam martial arts set.

Round 3 results:
Hunter hits first, Diggler counters with a pair of punches. The pace early favors Hunter, but slows as Diggler takes the lead. Neither man lands a blow in the 2nd, but the third is all-out acttion, as both men land shots! Hunter ties it up at 3-3, with plenty of time left. However, neither man can convert the winning blow so it goes to the judges who award the title to ...

Workout notes:
DirkDiggler, who moves up two points. He now has an average ability of 16 with Legs of 30!
Hunter saw his Body rating drop all the way to 0! Combine that with his 3 Legs, and you have a very imbalanced fighter.
Since we have nine fighters at this time, I'll run another eight man tournament and randomly select the person who should not participate. I'm willing to listen to suggestions from people on this process - champion sits, champion automatically is back in, randomly draw from first-round losers to sit, etc. I guess I'm wondering if you guys want to see parity or the emergence of stud fighters.

Not knowing how this system works, how quickly do your ratings rebound (or do they at all) and what are the benefits of winning a tournament?
Nice showing to start off with, just curious if he's essentially a cripple now, heh.

Tournament #2, Round #1:
Jeff starts scoring with a kick, then does it again as he controls first round action. A late third hit staggers Rip. Rip is flailing away, and BigJeff finishes him off by knockout in 2nd round! 6-1 final, our first knockout. What a debut!!!
Hunter connects with his first punch of the fight. He then clips Dirk's head, sending him reeling to end the first round. Dirk scores with a kick early in 2nd round to cut the lead. Hunter again lands a punch, he is hurting Dirk late in rounds. Hunter takes a commanding 4-1 lead early in the 4th. Dirk responds with a spin kick, but probably doesn't have enough in tank to pull this out. Hunter moves on, 4-2.
Izulde starts the fight connecting on back-to-back kicks to Swaggs, doubling his hits from their first contest. Swaggs lands a punch to Izulde's skull midway through 2nd period. Izulde answers, but Swaggs ends the round with a knockdown! 3-2 Izulde, but he should avoid a tie with the knockdown on the record. Izulde lands a punch to Swaggs' gut late in the 3rd to secure the 4-2 win.
Day-ne and Warlord trade hits, with Day-ne landing the superior strike in 1st. CoffeeWarlord staggers Day-Ne with a kick in 2nd, and Day-Ne returns the favor. It is anyone's match heading into the 3rd. Both guys are gassed, but Day-ne lands a late hit to take a controversial 3-2 decision!

After every match the fighters get to return to the dojo. There are two types of workout - a general where every attribute gets 0-2 points and a specific where three attributes get 1-7 points but three attributes lose 1-5 (I think) points. Then the fighting master adds 1-3 points to each of his three specialties.
So having zero for an attribute is just about unheard of, but it doesn't mean that they can't fight or anything like that. There are no injuries in this, unless I decide to add them as color at some point to juice up my descriptions.

So out of curiosity then, why such a negative result for having won the tournament? Did other stats go up or just as a result of the sort of fights or is it all training related?

Round 2 matchups:
BigJeff vs Hunter - time to see if Jeff was a fluke or the next big thing
Izulde vs Day-Ne - a win here would be a big boost for either one of these guys. I think Day-Ne remains a smidge better fighter.
Tournament #2, Round #2:
Both fighters land early hits, with Hunter hitting harder. He puts BigJeff on the deck with a punch midway through the period and adds one more for good measure before the bell. Jeff lands two kicks in the 2nd to tie it up. Both fighters land blows early in 3rd, as we have a great offensive battle taking place. Hunter staggers BigJeff with a lunging punch, and emerges as a 5-4 victor.
Izulde kicks Day-ne in the side to start the battle. Then he lands a spin kick to the head, and another front kick to the chest. Dominant first period. Dayne is charging wildly, setting himself up for a fal if Izulde can finish. He does land hits, but not hard ones. Day-ne breaks through the defenses to hit Izulde once in each the 2nd and third periods, but Izulde just battered him, 7-2. I believe Izulde had landed seven total hits prior to this match.

Overall, attributes went up. However, winning the fight doesn't help or hinder gaining attributes. What it does do is collect experience that is needed, along with an average attribute minimum, to move up to the next belt level. All of the starting fighters are white belts. I'll be posting as people make the move upwards - probably running multiple tournaments for different belt levels if/when the dynasty gets that far.

Championship thoughts: Hunter is the defending champ, and the best offensive fighter around based on what he has shown in the ring. Sure he is one-dimensional (no legs) but no one has really slowed that one dimension yet. Izulde is a tough defensive fighter who seems to be learning how to control matches by outlasting his foes. But he is a pretty heavy underdog in this fight.
Tournament #2, Round #3:
Izulde starts the match by battering Hunter, landing two hits. Hunter answers with one, but is clearly caught off guard. Izulde keeps the attack coming, taking a 3-1 lead before Hunter answers again. One round to go to shock the karate world! Izulde lands a big block midway through the period, as both fighters are wicked tired. And the 3-2 lead holds up, as Izulde assumes the mantle of champion!

I'll post everyone's stats after this next round in the dojo, along with comments on their career to date.
Workout Wonders:
DirkDiggler once agin has a great dojo experience, moving his Ability Average up to 18. Another workout like that, plus a couple of wins in the next tourney, and he should be ready to ascend to the next belt.
Hunter saw his body move up to 7 after a solid workout.
BigJeff also had a two point jump in his workout and looks ready to continue his ascent in the ring.

Cool, I think that came out pretty well. Some notes:
Hunter has 112 Progress Points. Going from memory, I believe 100 is the number required to get to Yellow belt, along with an average attribute of 20. Some of our fighters have their work cut out for them to acquire the 100 Progress Points by the time they work their Avg Attributes up to 20 (I'm talking to you, Swaggs).
Best/Worst Rankings:
Strength: CoffeeWarlord (20), BigJeff (11)
Agility: Hunter (25), Day-ne (14)
Quickness: Izulde (19), Hunter (8)
Stamina: three tied (17), two tied (12)
Perception: Hunter (20), CoffeeWarlord (9)
Courage: DirkDiggler (21), RipSavage (8)
Arms: Swaggs (18), Izulde (6)
Legs: DirkDiggler (32), two tied (10)
Body: Day-ne (17), Hunter (7)

One more note - prior to starting the first tournament I had a tournament lock up after completing three first round matchups. The tournament was not saved, but the results show up on the records, along with progress points earned in the matches. Consider them "dark matches" - I think that is the right term from the wrestling dynasties I've seen. But that should account for any discrepancies in records from what I've posted so far.

Team #2: BigJeff, Hunter, Swaggs, Budd

Tournament #3, Round #1 Preview:
Day-ne vs BigJeff - Jeff has competed harder than Day-ne up to this point. I'll pick the new guy.
DirkDiggler vs Hunter - Hunter certainly gets the tough draws. I'll pick against him, as Dirk is just stupid talented.
Izulde vs Swaggs - because they meet every first round. I'll pick the champ to win this matchup.
CoffeeWarlord vs Budd - someone is going to get their first win. Meh, make it the Warlord.

Tournament #3, Round #1 Results:
BigJeff has landed more hits in two fights than Day-Ne has in four. But will he mount enough of a defense to win this battle of .500 fighters? Day-ne lands a kick to get the scoring started. And fires a punch into Jeff's chin to end the round. Jeff answers in round two, landing a pair of shots to tie the score. His back-knuckle blow gives him the lead, and the fighters trade body punches. In the end, it is a stirring come-from-behind win for BigJeff.
Dirk staggers Hunter with a front kick, then lands a punch to the head! But Hunter retaliates, however Diggler gets a third shot in before the end of the period. He looks very crisp so far this fight. Both fighters seems tired in the second round and are unable to mount legit attacks. Diggler hits Hunter, who flails wildly. Just what Dirk ordered, as he lands a crushing kick to Hunter's dome, knocking him out cold. 5-2 KO, in a surprisingly one-sided bout.
Swaggs lands a punch, but Izulde comes back with three straight kicks! He has really picked up his offense. Swaggs connects with a back-knuckle, ending an exciting 3-2 period. Swaggs ties it with a kick to the stomach heading into the third. There is no scoring in the third, leaving it a tie. Izulde, the heavier fighter, advances as is usually the case in those scenarios.
Budd fires a straight punch to the jaw of Warlord, and follows it up with a spin kick. Warlord retaliates with a kick, but is floored by Budd near the end of the period. Budd again strikes late in the period, punching and staggering the Warlord. Coffee connects on a side kick early in the third, but Budd is in control. Two more points come from kicks and he coasts to a 6-2 victory.

Tournament #3, Round #2 Preview:
BigJeff vs Budd: Look for Jeff to provide much more resistance than the Warlord. Jeff should move to the finals.
Izulde vs DirkDiggler: Izulde has gotten off to great starts during his current winning streak. But Diggler is on a mission to win his first title and will end Izulde's reign here as long as he doesn't fall behind early.
Tournament #3, Round #2 Results:
Jeff hits Budd in the face to start the fight. But Budd responds with a punch to the chest, sending a message that this will not be a walk in the park. Both fighters are blocking a number of attacks, leading to fatigue and a lack of flow in the 2nd. Jeff lands a kick early in the third, and another to take a 3-1 lead. Budd answers, but runs out of time, falling 3-2. BigJeff is in his first championship.
Izulde starts the scoring with a front kick to the head and follows with a knuckle sandwich. He just owns the first period! He continues to press the action, landing a savage kick to Diggler's midsection. Dirk presses the attack, but fails miserably as Izulde slaps him around. This is a rout, 5-0 Izulde!

Tournament #3, Championship Preview:
BigJeff vs Izulde: I've continued to underestimate Izulde, but he has rattled off five straight wins. He is the more skilled fighter and is the favorite. But I'll pick against him again, looking for BigJeff to crack Izulde's vaunted defense with his prolific and varied attack.
Tournament #3, Championship Results:
Izulde turns defense into offense, blocking an attack and landing back to back kicks. He follows it up with a high, hard punch that rattles BigJeff. Another dominant first round. The pressure is relentless, as he continues to batter BigJeff. 6-0 after two rounds. The final round drags out, but Izulde emerges as the first two-time champion with a dominating 7-0 performance.

God I'm terrible.
Yes, but you will get another shot with the next generation of fighters. By now you are built up enough through dojo workouts that you will be a lot for a new fighter to handle.
But no doubt about it, you need to get some wins and the additional matches that go with the first-round wins, in order to start catching up to other fighters. I still think your long-term outlook is better than Swaggs, who can't do anything about his low weight.

Tournament #4 draws:
Team #1 - Day-ne, CoffeeWarlord, DirkDiggler, BigJeff
Team #2 -Izulde, RipSavage, Budd, Swaggs
Out - Hunter
Tournament #4, Round #1 matchups:
Day-ne vs RipSavage: both of these guys have been disappointing lately. Day-ne has more skill at this point, so I'll give him the edge.
BigJeff vs Budd: BigJeff has been the more consistent performer and more experience despite starting later (5 fights to 4). He wins this one.
DirkDiggler vs Izulde: best two fighters in the tournament in Round #1. Izulde crushed him last time, this will be the last time I pick against the champ if he wins this match.
CoffeeWarlord vs Swaggs: once again CW finds himself in a showdown with guys who need wins. Swaggs relies on his superior skill to overcome a 14 pound weight difference, keeping the Warlord winless.

Tournament #4, Round #1 Results:
Rip gets the fight going with a pair of kicks to Day-Ne. Looks like the time off and dojo sessions are paying off. Neither man gets points on Round 2 - lots of blocked attacks creating high fatigue for both fighters. More of the same in the third. This wasn't exciting, but it was decisive. RipSavage advances 2-0.
BigJeff punches Budd in the gut, staggering him. He lands a kick later in the round. Budd gets a point back to start the second, but BigJeff lands the back knuckle to push the margin back to 2 heading into final period. No points in final period, as BigJeff advances.
Izulde lands the first hit, but Dirk gets the next two. Izulde answers. Four points in the first period, all on kicks. Dirk batters Izulde, who answers with another point, but Dirk pours it on with two more points to close out the second period. What an exciting match! Dirk lands another kick to take control of the match, Izulde starts going after him wildly. This could be trouble. Dirk pounds away relentlessly but can't get the knockout. 9-3 final, and we will have a new champion.
Swaggs punches CoffeeWarlord in the gut, but the Warlord responds with a knock-down circle kick! 1-1 after one. Swaggs lands a straight jab to the mug of CW to take the lead after two periods. But Warlord lands a side kick, staggering Swaggs. Swaggs responds well, landing two more hits to Warlord to pull away. You saw the weight difference show up in terms of damage delivered by blow, but Swaggs gets his second win by a count of 4-2.

Tournament #4, Round #2 matchups:
RipSavage vs Swaggs: similar matchup for Swaggs, as he again has the skill advantage. And he has to be excited to avoid a showdown with Izulde, who had beaten him in the first round the last two tournaments. I'll pick the feisty little man to win here.
DirkDiggler vs BigJeff: if Dirk wins here he will have a "Spurs" type final compared to the tough early round competition. I look for him to put it together here, and pick up a title before earning his yellow belt.
Tournament #4, Round #2 Results:
Swaggs draws first blood with a stomach shot, but Rip answers. Swaggs keeps up the attack with a kick to Rip's face to end the period. And they trade body blows late in the second - Swaggs is up one going into the final period. Swaggs extends his lead with a high, hard fist. The final score shows that the judges missed a hit for Rip, but Swaggs still moves on by a 4-3 score. This is like Daniel-son making it to the finals to face Johnny.
Dirk starts out with a side kick, then follows it up with a rare punch. He looks strong early. Another punch, as he is really mixing up his attacks today. A backfist to the head moves the score to 4-0. He then knocks down BigJeff with a roundhouse kick. Total control, 6-0 after two. BigJeff lands a punch to start the third, but this one is over. Dirk can't pull off the knockout, but does win 8-1. Back-to-back dominant performances.

Tournament #4, Championship preview:
Swaggs vs DirkDiggler: Dirk is too big and too good. He has destroyed better opponents on the way here. This should not be close - it could be a knockout.
Tournament #4, Championship Results:
Dirk knocks Swaggs down with a front kick early in the round. Both fighters look tired. Dirk lands a spin kick right before the bell. He then starts the second by landing a punch to the gut of Swaggs and follows it up with two more hits. Swaggs does connect with a kick, but Dirk adds another point. He is in total control. Round three starts with another knockdown. And another one! Dirk hits him again, someone throw in the towel here! Both men are barely able to stand, but Swaggs can't even see his face is so swollen. Dirk doesn't get the knockout - Swaggs has a ton of heart - but does win 9-1. Just a dominating three match run.

Updated stats - note that DirkDiggler has moved up to Yellow belt. He is still eligible to compete against White belts, but upon moving up to the next belt level he won't be able to compete with White/Yellow in the official tournaments.

A review of the Top Ten fighters for the White division (starts off populated by computer opponents) - based on winning %, minimum # of fights:
#3 Izulde (6-2)
#6 DirkDiggler (7-3)
#8 BigJeff (4-3)
Not sure why Hunter isn't listed here - wonder if I have got his record wrong? If he is only 4-2 instead of 5-2 that would make sense. Otherwise I would expect him ahead of BigJeff at the very least.

Tournament #5 rosters:
Team #1 - Izulde, BigJeff, RipSavage, Day-Ne
Team #2 - Hunter, Swaggs, Budd, CoffeeWarlord
Out - DirkDiggler (first time a champ has sat)
Round #1 Predictions:
Day-ne vs Swaggs: both guys probably need a run to the finals to accumulate enough points to move up to Yellow. I'll look for Day-ne to snap his losing streak against the battered (but confident) Swaggs.
RipSavage vs Hunter: two of the less skilled guys out there now, but Hunter has shown more in the ring and has weight advantage. He should have a punchers chance at his second title.
BigJeff vs Budd: BigJeff has a pretty good record in first round, while Budd's only win is against the Warlord. Next.
Izulde vs CoffeeWarlord: the Warlord has to win sometime, right? But not here, unless Diggler really shook Izulde's confidence.

Tournament #5, Round #1 Results:
Day-ne lands the back knuckle to take the early lead. He then lands back-to-back hits to Swaggs, including a front kick that staggers the little man. Swaggs comes out swinging wildly to start the 3rd - could be ugly. Both men are fatigued - Day-ne just doesn't know how to finish off an opponent yet. A sloppy third ends with a 3-0 victory for Day-ne.
Hunter starts the fight with a shot to Rip's jaw. But the action slows for the remainder of the first. Hunter moves the margin to 2-0 with another punch, and finishes the period with a side kick. Rip doesn't push the panic button and closes the gap, but Hunter leads the whole way en route to a 4-2 decision.
BigJeff lunges into Budd, landing a solid left. A side kick sends Budd reeling. Budd responds with a front kick, battering BigJeff's chest. BigJeff answers at the start of the second period. Both men are landing big shots. But Budd hits the panic button near the end of the second round. BigJeff goes in for the kill, but isn't able to land a shot. Both men are Dazed, which means that we don't get to see anything resembling good fighting. 5-1 final, BigJeff moves on.
Izulde looks out for blood, smacking Coffee in the face and then delivering a toe to his gut. Coffee is staggered by the kick. Both men have their guard up in the second round; Warlord needs to do more than that if he wants his first victory. But Izulde basically stalls it out, 2-0 final.

Tournament #5, Round #2 matchups:
Day-ne vs Hunter: Day-ne has the skill edge, Hunter has the results. I'll call for the upset, as Day-ne starts to put it together in a push for his yellow belt.
BigJeff vs Izulde: nice matchup here, both coming off victories against overmatched foes. I'll pick Izulde because of his winning experience, but would not be surprised in the least if Jeff breaks through.
Tournament #5, Round #2 Results:
Hunter gets off to a fast start, landing two punches. He presses the attack, staggering Day-ne with a spin kick. Day-ne collects one point before the end of the round. Both men essentially rest in the 2nd period. Day-Ne comes after Hunter wildly, landing a hit but Hunter gets the point back. So much for the upset. Hunter wins 5-2, while Day-Ne will likely have to get more seasoning before being awarded his yellow belt.
Izulde starts the match off with a wicked spin kick, sunning BigJeff. From there, the action slows. Izulde picks up another point with a front kick late in the second period. It looks like he has reverted to being a defensive fighter. BigJeff finally breaks through midway through the third with a gut shot. But that is the only hit he lands, and Izulde will look for his third title after this 2-1 win.

Tournament #5, Championship matchup:
Hunter vs Izulde: after this match these guys will have combined for 4 of the 5 FOFC titles. Hunter is a terrific offensive fighter, while Izulde is probably the best defender in the group. I'll pick Izulde to extend his perfect record on the big stage.
Tournament #5, Championship Results:
Izulde gets a quick 2-0 lead, with a nasty punch/kick combo. That is his usual formula, get the early lead. He moves it to 3-0 with a 2nd period kick that crumples Hunters chest. Hunter looks desperate, and Izulde takes advantage by counter-punching to move the lead to 4-0. Izulde drills him in the head in the 3rd period to conclude the scoring. Another championship, now his third. DirkDiggler was seen smirking at ringside as he watched the combat.

Swaggs has now moved up to 20 for his average ability, but with only 71 progress points he still has work left to do to attain Yellow belt. There are several other fighters at 19, including Izulde who certainly has enough Progress Points to move on.
I'm going to look to add a few more fighters to the stable in order to get to 16 man tournaments in the near future. I'm up for creating second fighters for those of you who aren't getting a ton of satisfaction out of your first guy.

It's good to have a dream. Seriously, your guy is now in position to rip apart any newcomers. And I'm planning to add a couple of new guys over the weekend, with or without an FOFC namesake. That will allow me to help some of the guys struggling for wins to pick up victories in eight man tournaments, as well as providing options for sixteen man tournaments once in awhile.

Introducing DeanHouston. He had quite a reputation on the football field, but how are his martial arts skills? Well, looks like he has a decent arm, but isn't very strong. And he looked bigger on the football field, although he has slightly above average size for an FOFC fighter.
DeanHouston
Trainer: Luse Lee
Strength: 4
Agility: 18
Quickness: 11
Stamina: 18
Perception: 11
Courage: 17
Arms: 16
Legs: 10
Body: 6
Ability Average: 12
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 174
I'll add another palooka each tournament until we get up to 12, barring new FOFC signups. If/when there is an FOFC sign-up I'll get them in right away.

Tournament #6 Teams:
Team #1: Swaggs, Izulde, CoffeeWarlord, DeanHouston
Team #2: RipSavage, Budd, DirkDiggler, Hunter
Out: Day-Ne, BigJeff
Swaggs vs RipSavage: critical match for both guys, seeking Progress Points for Yellow belt. I'll go with the more skilled Swaggs to win this.
DeanHouston vs Hunter: ouch. Budd is very disappointed not to get first crack at the ex-QB. 50/50 on whether this one is a KO.
Izulde vs Budd: Izulde will be using this tournament as a launch point for his Yellow belt. He isn't going to lose this match.
CoffeeWarlord vs DirkDiggler: CoffeeWarlord can't be pleased with his draw. Dirk is looking to set up a first ever matchup with Izulde of defending champs, thanks to his bye last tourney.

Tournament #6, Round #1 Results:
Rip spin kicks Swaggs in the head with his first attack, staggering him. The remainder of the round settled into a defensive battle. No points landed in the second round either. Swaggs started the third with a blow to the head of rip. Rip took control after that, landing back to back kicks that hurt Swaggs. 3-1 win, Swaggs will have to wait another tournament to get his Yellow belt. Over/under on his ability average upon getting the belt = 25.5
Hunter cracked DeanHouston in th head with a kick, but DeanHouston answered with back to back shots! And a third punch to end the first round! What are we witnessing here? He takes the edge to 4-1 after two periods, lunging into Hunter near the end of the round. Hunter smacked Dean to start the third, but needs to do a lot more. Dean lands another kick, Hunter answers with a punch, and the bell sounds. 5-3, DEANHOUSTON!!!
No hits landed in the first round of the Izulde/Budd matchup. Both land their first shot of the second period, with Budd getting the harder hit. Izulde lands another kick, cracking Budd's neck. The bell sounds, and Budd lands another kick. It counts, and Izulde is not happy! Budd puts the finishing touches on the match midway through the third, getting the go-ahead hit and emerging with a 3-2 win. What is going on here? Based on these upsets, does CoffeeWarlord have a shot against DirkDiggler?
Dirk starts the match smacking CoffeeWarlord in the face, but the Warlord answers with a lunge that staggers Diggler and another kick to the head! Diggler lands a kick, and we are tied at 2 after one period. The kidding around is over with now, as Dirk puts Coffee on the deck with a kick and adds another point. Warlord cuts the deficit to one with a punch near the end of the period. Both men have really put a lot into this fight and look tired. Warlord lands another blow to tie it up - not sure how a decision would go if no one can land another shot. But it doesn't go down that way, as coffeeWarlord connects with one last punch. 5-4 victory. This is the most bizarre tournament we've seen yet!!!!

So, after going 0-4 on picks last round, here are the Round 2 previews.
RipSavage vs DeanHouston: everything has set up perfectly for RipSavage to take home his first title. Just don't blow it.
Budd vs CoffeeWarlord: prior to this tournament, these guys had combined for one win, when Budd beat CoffeeWarlord. The Warlord will get revenge today.
Tournament #6, Round #2 Results:
After some initial feeling out, RipSavage punches Dean in the gut and in return is kicked in the head. 1-1 after the first. They again trade blows midway through the second round. Strange pace to this fight, still anyone's match. Dean punches Rip in the gut to start the third. Rip fires back late in the third with a punch to the gut, but DeanHouston closes it out with a cheap shot below the belt! The newcomer advances to the final as journalists rush to get this story into before deadline. Johnny Morton can only dream of these kind of results.
Budd spin kicks CoffeeWarlord, then drops a straight kick to his jaw. Both of those shots hurt the Warlord! Another kick to the head sends CW reeling. Budd connects again, this time with a punch - the rout is on. CoffeeWarlord lands a spin kick early in the second, but Budd connects with another punch. Coffee should be very careful, as he is in danger of being knocked out. Of course, that would require Budd being able to capitalize, which he can't. CoffeeWarlord ends the fight kicking Budd in the gut, but it is basically spitting in the wind as he falls 6-2.

I clearly don't know these fighters anymore. I'm one bad pick away from an 0-fer tournament. Budd has to step up and get this win to defend the honor of the dojo.
Tournament #6, Championship Results:
Budd starts fast again, landing a punch to the ribs. But Dean answers with a side kick, and another side kick! 2-1 Dean after one round. He takes a 4-1 lead after landing two more kicks! And a punch, this is a slaughter! Budd is flailing away, trying to land the big hit. He does connect twice, but is it too late? Dean is running out the clock, and then finishes it with a elbow to the head of his demoralized opponent. 6-3, DeanHouston is the new FOFC karate champion!

I've got mixed feelings on this last tournament. I was hoping that the guys who have struggled to get wins could do so in order to avoid a huge disparity between their Avg Attribute and Progress Points - that happened, with all of the upsets. But I think if I ran that same tournament 50 more times that we would not have seen another DeanHouston title. That was Al Michaels "Do you believe in miracles?" stuff.

Stats update. I'm ashamed of our corps of fighters for letting a newcomer with 4 Strength come in and win three straight. I'm challenging each and every one of them to respond and show DeanHouston that FOFC is not the bunch of wimps that they looked like in his first tournament.

Tournament #7 lineups:
Team #1: Hunter, RipSavage, Day-ne, CoffeeWarlord
Team #2: Izulde, Budd, DirkDigger, BigJeff
Out: Swaggs, DeanHouston
Tournament #7, Round #1 Previews:
Day-Ne vs BigJeff: two guys on the verge of moving up to Yellow belt. BigJeff has the more successful career, which would mean Day-Ne wins. If this was Tournament #6. I'll go with BigJeff.
RipSavage vs Budd: Rip needs this more, as he is right on the verge of his Yellow belt. Budd had his best fighting last tournament, but may be scarred by his miserable title performance. Advantage RipSavage.
Hunter vs DirkDiggler: one of these guys is always getting tough draws in these tournaments. Both look to have an edge after suffering embarrassing defeats. I'll pick Hunter in an upset, just to pick against Dirk for once.
CoffeeWarlord vs Izulde: can Coffee awaken in the first round against a tough foe again? No way, Izulde walks to the second round.

Tournament #7, Round #1 Results:
BigJeff lands his first two punches, taking command early. Day-Ne cuts the lead in half with a side kick to start the 2nd period, but that is all of the scoring going into the 3rd. Day-Ne ties it up with a straight punch to the jaw, forcing our first judge's decision in some time. And they award it to ... Day-Ne. 2-2, BigJeff couldn't touch him after landing his first two attempts.
Rip lands a punch to the body, then follows it up with a pair of lunges to take control right away. Budd is panicked, trying to make it up in one swing. Rip lands two more shots to start the second period, mixing up his punches and kicks. Another kick, 6-0. One more punch to the head to end the period, this is ugly. Rip starts the third period with a knockdown kick - will we see a knockout? Nope, but it was a pistol-whipping. 8-0 final.
It is all out action in the first period here, as Hunter is hitting Dirk at will, including power punches. 4-2 after one. Hunter lands a spin kick to take the margin up to 5-2 by the end of two. The third period includes more of the same, with three punches to the head. Dirk is swinging wildly, and Hunter can't land the knockout. When will we see some knockouts? 8-2 final, dominating performance by Hunter.
CoffeeWarlord starts the scoring with a fist to Izulde's face. But the rest of the period features defense. Izulde ties it up with a shot to the gut early in the second. coffee lands a spin kick that sends Izulde reeling. He really is strong ... Izulde forces a tie late with a spin kick, but Coffee has the power punches and emerges as the winner by judges decision. 2-2.

Tournament #7, Round #2 Previews:
Day-Ne vs RipSavage: neither one of these guys has ever been to a final. I'll pick RipSavage to follow up his strong showing from last time out and move past Day-Ne.
Hunter vs CoffeeWarlord: both guys had good wins, but Hunter was just on another level. I look for him to keep up the pace here and move to his 4th championship match.
Tournament #7, Round #2 Results:
Day-Ne staggers RipSavage right away with a side kick. Again, with a front kick. But Rip lands a lunge, drilling Day-ne in the head right before the end of the period to salvage something from the opening round. Rip ties it up late in the second with a spin kick. Rip takes the lead, but it is short-lived as Day-Ne plants him on the ground with a front kick. He didn't see that one coming! And that assures Day-Ne the decision when it ends up 3-3.
Hunter opens the fight with a kick to the midsection of CoffeeWarlord, knocking him to the ground! Coffee responds with a punch to the midsection. But Hunter lands back-to-back kicks and knocks out the Warlord in the first period! Wow!!! 3-1 final.

Tournament #7, Championship Preview:
Day-ne vs Hunter: The Hunter has looked like a very bad man so far this tournament, dismantling both of his foes. Day-ne has won a pair of ties. This won't be tied at the end, as Hunter gets his second title.
Tournament #7, Championship Result:
Day-Ne gets off to a great start, hitting Hunter twice and staggering him. But Hunter comes back aggressively, tying the score with a hard right cross. But wait - Hunter falls to a knee after landing that shot. He is holding his hand - it looks like he won't be able to continue! Day-Ne, in his first championship event, takes home the title thanks to an injury default. And Hunter has to settle for his 3rd runner-up trophy. What a shame, as this was shaping up to be a really entertaining match.

By the way, the injury to Hunter is a real downer for him. Not only did it potentially cost him the title, but it had a direct impact on his stats. He dropped from 19 to 15 in AverageAttribute, taking him away from his Yellow belt (about half the guys have that now).

Also, if KlaytonMyers wins the next tournament, then I'm going to cut one of the three fighters that lose to him. I will consider it 100% unacceptable for our highly trained fighters to lose to athletes with no martial arts training. Sweep the leg!!!!

oh for pity sake, lol.
Does an injury hold you out from any future competitions, or just a direct impact to ratings (if it's the former, do the lost stats come back as you heal?)

Too late to submit someone?
Nope, still looking for FOFC sign-ups. I'll be giving them preferential treatment over the other characters I create in terms of tournament entries - will roll them out there as much as possible. It is an uphill battle going against the more experienced fighters, but DeanHouston certainly showed that it is possible to get wins. And fighters that sign up now will be more experienced than the ones that follow them.
So submit away!

I'll be able to submit you for the next tournament. I was planning to have your guy sit one, until I saw the stats loss. At that point, I decided he was getting punished enough.
I don't believe the stats come back as you heal. However, the last time I played this game was nearly 20 years ago and I wasn't tracking stats the same way I am with this dynasty. So there is a chance they start to come back, but I don't think that a program spanning two old-school floppy disks includes sophisticated enough code for that type of recovery.

Tainted win :(
A really tainted win would have been down 4-0. Day-ne was tied at the time and had shown in this tournament the ability to pull out close matches. I'm just bummed that there was an injury in a title match and that Hunter has to work that much harder to get his belt. But Tournament 7 was by far the best work we have seen out of Day-ne.

For the next tournament I'm going to include all the new fighters, along with CoffeeWarlord, Budd, Swaggs, and Hunter. That list includes the people with the lowest ability and/or fewest wins.
So that leaves one spot - right now we have four sitting each tournament. The four who are not in this tournament will automatically be in the next one.

Swaggs vs Budd: Swaggs has a commanding (23 vs 18) skill advantage over Budd that he should use to offset the 15 pound weight difference. I have Swaggs as the co-favorite with Bigjeff to win this title.
Hunter vs CoffeeWarlord: The Warlord has always suffered, on a relative scale, with his skill level. But he has a three point edge now against the recuperating Hunter, an advantage I expect him to exploit.
DeanHouston vs KlaytonMyers: We have seen Dean win against experienced fighters, now he gets another two-sport athlete. Dean has talent and experience on him and should win this one pretty easily.
Tournament #8, Round #1 Results:
BigJeff connects first, landing the back knuckle attack. He again connects with a punch to WVUFAN's dome, ending the period up two. Neither fighter is able to score in the second period. BigJeff lands a power punch to start the third, taking control of the fight. And that is how this one ends.
Swaggs and Budd trade shots early in the first round. Swaggs takes the lead with a side kick, and adds a late front kick to the midsection to close out round 1. Swaggs opens up a 4-1 lead, but Budd responds with back-to-back kicks, including a knockdown before the end of the period. Swaggs starts off the third with a kick, but Budd answers with another punch. This one is up for grabs, but Budd can't land the tie-breaking hit and Swaggs advances in an fun fight for the viewers.
Hunter starts the scoring, landing three straight punches to the chest of CoffeeWarlord. What injury? Coffee responds with a punch of his own that staggers Hunter, and adds a kick to narrow the margin heading into the second period. Coffee again connects with a kick, staggering Hunter. Hunter lands a pair of shots and finally appears to be hurting his opponent. Hunter takes a 6-3 lead to start the third, landing another shot to the chest and staggering Coffee. Coffee is able to land one more shot. But his defense was poor, allowing Hunter to pick up his first win on the comeback trail, 6-4.
After a feeling out period to start the match, DeanHouston lands a pair of punches to take a 2-0 lead into the second period. A side kick moves the margin to 3-0 and staggers Klayton. Myers looks lost out there. Dean hits him with another spin kick to start the 3rd. He follows it with a shot to the chest. Klayton is flailing away, trying to stay in this match, but Dean just toys with him. 6-0 victory, and Dean is now 4-0.

Tournament #8, Round #2 Previews:
BigJeff vs Swaggs: Swaggs still enjoys a skill edge in this fight, as he does in just about all of his bouts, but BigJeff is no slouch. I look for a close fight, but will pick BigJeff because he is almost certain to win a tie.
Hunter vs DeanHouston: this bout features a couple of prolific attackers, both of whom gave the fans a show in Round #1. Hunter should give DeanHouston his first loss here, but would anyone really be surprised by another DeanHouston miracle?
Tournament #8, Round #2 Results:
Swaggs starts the scoring, but BigJeff lands back-to-back shots and hurts Swaggs. He moves to a 3-1 lead, but Swaggs ends the 2nd period with kick to th egut. BigJeff punches Swaggs in the head midway through the third to cement the win. 4-2 final in a match that was close but strangely not that compelling over the last two rounds.
Dean gets the first hit, but Hunter answers with a side kick that staggered the former QB. DeanHouston lunges in, surprising Hunter with an elbow to the side of the head. Hunter again lands a kick, and Dean grimaces. But answers, again with an end of period hit. Dean takes a 4-2 lead, but Hunter lands another power shot to keep this one close. But Dean defends well down the stretch, keeping Hunter from landing the tying punch. 4-3 win, and the legend of DeanHouston continues to grow.

Tournament #8, Championship Preview:
BigJeff vs DeanHouston: it is the veteran BigJeff who is looking for his first championship against the phenom DeanHouston. Who would have thought that a QB often described as soft would be able to come in and have his way with a stable of trained martial arts fighters? BigJeff will put an end to the madness tonight. His grind-it-out affair with Swaggs showed that he is capable of defending against the varied offensive attack DH brings to the table.
Tournament #8, Championship Result:
Dean starts the scoring with a front kick to the chin of BigJeff. He builds the margin with a straight punch to the chest. BigJeff had zero offense in the opening period. But he lands a massive spin kick to start the second. That is all the scoring until the third period. The fighters eah quickly pick up another point, but Dean once again is able to dodge and deflect incoming attacks. Jeff tries to force the action, and walks into a front kick near the end. 4-2 final, and DeanHouston becomes only the second fighter to win multiple titles.

Swaggs and Hunter are the last of the original nine fighters remaining at White belt level. Swaggs should get there, win or lose, in his next fight while Hunter was set back by his injury. But Swaggs is our most skilled fighter and Hunter is the first to ten wins, so each of has some level of accomplishment over their first eight tournaments.
WVUFAN received a whopping one Progress Point for his first match. It is a long way to Yellow at that rate ...

Good GOD I suck.
You are 50% stronger than any other student (33 to 22). Surely that counts for something?

OK, so I'm not liking where we are currently at with 1/3 of the stable on the outside looking in for all fights right now. So what I'm going to do is schedule separate fights for the fighters not in the tournament. I've been scheduling "Official" tournaments every time out, but I can also run Regular tournaments, with any even number of opponents and schedule the # of matches. So, I'm going to run 2x2 tournaments scheduled for two tournaments.
For people reading along, if you would prefer to slot your fighter in a regular tournament to get match experience (ie - are worried about getting knocked out in first round) I can slot them in the regular tournament. I'm going to try and rotate between the two, so I'll put a house rule in that a fighter only gets two regular tournaments in a row before going back into the official tournament loop. Also, I'll allow the reader to request a fighter to pull into the regular tournament along with them. So feel free to call out other fighters, talk trash, and settle it in the ring.

Regulation Tournament #1, Round #1 and Round #2 pairings:
50% chance of this happening in a 2-on-2 tournament, as pairings are randomized each round.
Day-Ne vs Budd: Day-ne is the more accomplished fighter and has won three straight (Tourney #7). Budd hasn't shown the ability to win consistently yet on the tour.
Swaggs vs KlaytonMyers: Swaggs is nearly twice as skilled as KM and should rout the basketball standout.
Regulation Tournament #1, Round #1 Results:
Budd hits first, but Day-ne returns the favor with a harder punch. He holds the edge through one round. Budd takes control with a pair of shots to start the second period, but Day-Ne mounts a comeback, landing a spin kick. Can he finish the comeback in the third? Budd extends his lead with a roundhouse, then closes out the match with a fist that rocks the side of Day-Ne's head. 5-2 final.
The highlights for Klayton? He got his first hit, and led the match 1-0. He kept the match even through one period. But that is about it, as Swaggs continued to break through his defenses over the rest of the fight. It was 3-1 after two, and a shot to the chest to start the third put Klayton in panic mode. KM landed a punch to Swaggs chest, but Swaggs was in control the whole way. 5-2 final, just like the other match.
Regulation Tournament #1, Round #2 Results:
Day-ne comes out looking for revenge, landing a pair of early kicks around a shot from Budd. 2-1 edge after one period. He then cracks a back knuckle, but Budd responds with a front kick to keep the match close going into the third. Budd ties the match late in the third, sending it to the judges to decide. There were no heavy hits in this one, so it really is too close to call. The winner? Budd, 3-3. Day-ne fans everywhere are outraged.
Swaggs starts the match off with a spin kick that connects. He goes back to the well two more times, as he seems to have easy access to KM's gut. The score is 4-0 before Myers lands a shot to close out the first. Swaggs puts him on the deck in the second period - could the lightweight Swaggs have enough punching power to deliver the knockout? No, but he does pour on the punches in this one-sided affair. 7-1 final score.

You are 50% stronger than any other student (33 to 22). Surely that counts for something?

Official Tournament #9 lineups:
Team #1: Hunter, DeanHouston, BigJeff, Izulde
Team #2: RipSavage, DirkDiggler, CoffeeWarlord, WVUFAN
Official Tournament #9 Round #1 previews:
BigJeff vs RipSavage: BJ has more talent and experience right now. Neither is a huge edge, but cumulatively they point towards another first round win for BigJeff.
Hunter vs DirkDiggler: these used to be really good fights before the injury. Now? Dirk should mow down the recovering Hunter.
DeanHouston vs CoffeeWarlord: there is no truth to the rumors that the commissioner has put a bounty on DeanHouston's head. It is pure coincidence that the roid-raging CoffeeWarlord drew him in the opener.
Izulde vs WVUFAN: expectations are modest for WVUFAN - get more than one Progress Point in this fight. This should be just the slump-buster that Izulde needs.
Official Tournament #9, Round 1 Results:
Rip gets an early block and counters with a punch that clips BigJeff; that was the only early scoring. Rip extends the lead with a front kick in the second that staggers his foe and presses the advantage with a lunging shot to the stomach. He is fighting well while fatigued, something not often seen by the FOFC fighters. BigJeff is swinging wildly, trying to get back in the fight in the third, but that doesn't work out well. He just exhausts himself, and Rip takes advantage with a high kick that knocks out BigJeff! 5-0 final.
Dirk reels Hunter with his first kick of the fight and lands another one moments later. He is in total command, as he connects with a third kick before the buzzer. The second round features a more varied attack, as Dirk starts to bring his fists into the fray as well. He is just destroying Hunter, by a 7-1 margin going into the third. Dirk gets a knockdown, but not a knockout, en route to a 9-2 decision.
First blood to Dean, but Coffee ties is up with a haymaker. 1-1 after one round, as both fighters went after each other ineffectively. Coffee cracks Dean's defense midway through the second, with a huge left that floors the undefeated wunderkid. Coffee moves the lead to 3-1 with a kick in the third - a virtual lock, given the power of his punches. Just to rub salt in the wound, Coffee knocks him down late in the third with another kick. 4-1 final, as the caffeinated one moves on to the second round.
Izulde starts off fast, landing back to back hits against WVUFAN. Moments later he connects with a backhand slap that staggers WVUFAN. And OH MY!!! That kick came out of nowhere and WVUFAN is not getting up! 4-0, first period knockout!

Official Tournament #9, Round #2 Previews:
RipSavage vs DirkDiggler: Dirk is bigger, more talented, and more experienced. But that didn't help BigJeff against Rip in the last round. All four fighters looked dominating in their opening round matches, setting up an exciting semi-final round. I've got to pick Dirk to win this one, as he remains the best pound-for-pound fighter in the game even though his results don't always back this up.
CoffeeWarlord vs Izulde: same size, skill but Izulde has won an awful lot more on the tour. Still, the Warlord has been fighting uphill since the start of his career. He has to be excited that his skills have grown to a point where they are not dismissed against one of FOFC's finest. I'll look for him to pull an upset here.
Official Tournament #9, Round #2 Results:
Dirk controls the tempo and finally breaks through late in the first, staggering Rip with a kick. Same result early in the second, as he takes a two point lead. The margin moves to three and Rip goes on the offensive, swinging wildly and connecting. 3-1 after two. Dirk connects again early in the third and avoids a couple of wild swings from Rip before landing a kick to the stomach that puts Rip on the deck wheezing. He can't answer the count and Dirk has a KO. 5-2 final.
Izulde gets an early lead as he sneaks a kick past CoffeeWarlord's defenses. 1-0 after one. Both fighters fail to connect in the second round, but CoffeeWarlord takes over in the third with three straight big hits, including a knockdown kick on the second. Izulde didn't know what hit him! He does manage to land one last hit, but knows that he doesn't have enough in the tank to pull this one out. 3-2 CoffeeWarlord.

Official Tournament #9, Championship Preview:
DirkDiggler vs CoffeeWarlord: Dirk has destroyed so far this tournament, in a run that looks remarkably similar to his previous title run. CoffeeWarlord seems to have stepped up his game, but he is going to need to work extra hard on his defense to stick around in this one. Dirk should collect his second title while CoffeeWarlord gets one of the illustrious runner-up prizes (my guess - rubber ducky).
Official Tournament #9, Championship Results:
Dirk and Coffee trade big kicks in the first round - neither one of them looks very comfortable early on. Dirk lands a spin kick to start the second period and take the lead. That is all for the scoring, as CoffeeWarlord looks tired - is he too hyped up for the big moment? Dirk connects with another pair of kicks, working over CoffeeWarlord's midsection. The Warlord tries to get back in the match with one punch, putting himself in dangerous positions. But Dirk doesn't capitalize, instead coasting to a 4-1 victory.

In other news, CoffeeWarlord is indeed rewarded with the Rubber Ducky. There are a couple of different runner-up prizes:
1. Foam Martial Arts Weapon Set
2. Rubber Ducky
3. Autographed Picture of Opponent
4. I'm forgetting one, I think.
So if I make some seemingly random comment about the runner-up prize then please reference this post.

Another update - regular tournaments do not translate into getting a dojo workout. So that limits the value of that plan, although it should still be a useful way for struggling fighters to pick up some needed Progress Points. I guess it is better than just sitting on the sidelines during the tournament, although clearly it is more useful to compete in the Official tournies and get the corresponding dojo workout.

It's gotta be Chuck. He is the only one who MIGHT be able to control Erik.
Who am I kidding. There is no controlling the mighty Erik Flamebeard.
edit: I'm assuming that's not eating a spot for a "real" FOFC'r.

No worries - we haven't had a rush on those spots anyways. With tournaments able to scale up to 32 participants, we are a long way from that being an issue.
