So Blade (of the no number suffix variety) and I are making plans to hit Philly this year for the Eagles/Seahawks game on Dec 2. Couple other people are going as well, still up in the air a bit as to what days we'll all be there, but Saturday and Sunday for sure.

This will obviously be the first time (as the title suggests) any of us attend a NFL game, and while I know body armor to be a suggested garment if I plan on vocally supporting the Seahawks at all during the game, I'm just curious if there are any suggestions for places to stay/visit/eat at during our time there. With the loonie doing so well right now it gives us a bit more flexibilty with our spending and not feeling like we're being mugged before the plane touches down.

Any and all suggestions/tips from city stuff to game related experience enhancers greatly appreciated.

Are you looking for guys night out stuff (bars, strip clubs, cheesesteaks, etc)? Touristy stuff (museums, history, etc)?

If you are going to have Seahawks gear on, expect to be yelled at and intimidated. Just verbally though, it doesn't get physical as much anymore since they moved from the Vet and also installed the court at the stadium. If you have a big group it prob won't be as bad as it would be with just two of you, and the Seahawks aren't really hated as much as a div rival.

I assume you already have tickets? Because they are sold out. Brokers probably have some though.

We've got a couple sites we're looking at online for tickets, that doesn't seem too bad to pick up (though any suggestions for surprisingly good places to sit would be great, no idea how the sight lines are there). As for stuff to do, it's Blade and his wife, myself and another friend going, so skin joints are definitely out of the equation. Typical tourist stuff for them, personally I'm looking for good places to eat/stay at as the whole point of the trip for me is the game and to get some merchandies at the stadium. I might only be in town for the Sat/Sun while the other three will be Fri-Mon.

I can't help you with places to stay, but as for places to eat there are many, but I would recommend:

Italian - Vetri (pricey)
Japanese - Haru
Cheesesteaks - Pat's, Tony Luke's, or Gino's, go to all of them
Morrocan - Marrakesh
Steak - Capital Grille (pricey)

Touristy things:

Lot of American History stuff, not sure if you would be interested in that, but there is the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Constitution center. For art there is the Philly Art Museum, Rodin Museum, and the Barnes Foundation. The Mutter Museum is your stop for all things weird about the human body, from huge colons to wax impressions of siamese twins. Philly has a ducktour and a segway tour that are both interesting.

Great stuff, definitely looking forward to sampling the cheesesteaks.

Thanks!

I pretty much echo everything Mr. B says. I would definitely make a trip to hit up Pat's or Gino's to get an "official" Philly Cheesesteak.

As far as other tourist spots, Northern Philly is a nice safe area to shop and tourist. I'd avoid the West side (unless you plan on going to the Philly Zoo).

As far as I can tell, there are no bad seats at the Linc. I got the cheapest durn seats I could (second row from the back) and they were still the best seats I've ever had at an NFL game.

Pat's and Gino's are must hits. Not sure if you're into boozing or what the scene is like at home, but there are some excellent beer bars in Philly. beeradvocate.com reviews them all.

There are no bad seats at the Linc. None.

I went to the NFC Championship Game in 2004. I had a seat in a VIP section, which was between the first and second levels. I've also sat in every part of the stadium on their fan day. Not a bad seat there.

South Street is one of the traditional centers of nightlife in Philly, and was a lot of fun when I used to visit my buddy at Penn 15 years ago. It now has a website, however (http://www.southstreet.com/), so I can no longer vouch for it :)
