Again, nice job Kodos. You not only came up with a cool idea but also ran it till the end with complete class. Unfortunately there was such a huge backlash with spin offs to your idea but at least the original survivor poll will go down with dignity.
Kodos
02-27-2003, 01:17 PM
Thanks, couriers!
I plan to eventually release Volume II of the poll (as I planned from the start), but I am going to let the craze die down first.

I voted against Led Zeppelin, even though I honestly prefer them to the Beastie Boys. I would have supported the Eagles had they made it to this round.

Well, I just f-d up. In survivor style, on the last round you are supposed to vote for the one you like. I voted Beastie Boys so I guess that means I'm eliminating them.
This has been a fun pole. I almost feel like I've had a hand in getting the Beasties this far.
Kodos
02-27-2003, 01:27 PM
I thought about changing it to vote for the group you want to win (like on the TV show), but thought it would lead to confusion, so I kept the same format for the final round.

Then why did you vote against them?

It sounds like my vote and Kodos vote will cancel each other out so its still accurate.

Ummmm, no. I believe that the Zepp backers used the same rationale to remove the Eagles in the last round. I don't believe that all those people truly prefer the Beastie Boys over the Eagles. Clearly, Zepp fans just wanted LZ to face a weaker opponent in the finals, and voted to remove the more dangerous Eagles, when in fact they truly liked the Eagles better. It was good strategy, but I wouldn't mind seeing it backfire. :) It is a classic Survivor strategy to bring a weak opponent with you into the final to increase your chance of winning.
Survivor is all about the strategery. ;)

Kodos, so you're down to picking the winner and you vote the guy you like less? What the heck kind of strategy is that?

If this were to determine what group we are going to send forth as representing the music of humanity, I would have to reconsider my vote and go with Zep. Here, in revenge of the Eagles, and because I like underdogs, I had to go with the Beasties. Go Beasties!

Considering that at one point, Zep published their music under the name Albion Moonlight, that is downright blasphemous.

It's always interesting to see people labeling other people's opinions as wrong on something that is as subjective as musical taste. I honestly prefer the Eagles over Led Zeppelin, but that doesn't mean I think others have to agree with me. And besides that, it's just a game!

Just looking at album sales, I think it is safe to assume that a lot more people like the Eagles than the Beastie Boys. I doubt a lot of people can even name one Beastie Boys album besides "Licensed To Ill." I was just giving my theory on what happened last round. Feel free to agree or disagree. :)

Dammit! I voted for Zeppelin by mistake. Grrr...I made the vote "for" mistake as well, picking LZ because I prefer them (by a lot), when I actually want to vote off the Beasties! Ugh. Maybe someone can do a counter vote like with heybrad?
And, BTW, that's stupid reasoning, Kodos; you're helping to kill of Zepp! :D I have been voting against the Beasties now for three rounds and would have loved to see an Eagles-Zepp final two.
And those of you voting Beasties over Zepp, seriously, go out and listen to some Zepp--the Boys have their talents, but they just got nothing on Plant and Page and company. ;)

As much as I may be heckled for this, I actually own all the Beastie Boys "popular" releases, and even 2 of their early 12" releases. I even picked up the DFL (Small Punk/Garage band) release that one of the Beasties played on. I'm a sucker for "different" styles of music.
I also own most of the Zep albums, including some on 8 track (Dating myself a bit here.) and while I like them, I can honestly say I enjoy the Beastie Boys music more. While I have to be in the mood for Zep, I always enjoy listening to BB. Its most likely based on the fact my two favorite genre's of music being funk, and old schoool punk rock.

I think Zep pulled a ... (shit, I can't remember the name of the dork from the 2nd Survivor, the one who handed victory to Tina). They've graciously stepped aside and let the obviously inferior runner-up win the whole thing.

Yeah reality shows on TV are silly, but if the objective is to end up with the worst choice then make that clear up front. By why play it seriously for the first seven rounds and then get silly for the last two? That just wasn't fun for me.

couriers, it wasn't your statement that made me quit these polls, I was just in agreement with it. :) Look, I'm not pissed or anything, but if all these things are just going to end up silly that's just no fun for me. It's not a knock on anyone. Let the people that enjoy it have some fun. I'm just saying for me, if these things are going to turn out as this one, that's just not fun. No hurt feelings or anything. ;)

I think you would have gotten a more honest response in this round if the Eagles hadn't been ousted last round.
On another note, did you stop watching football because the Patriots beat the Rams in the Super Bowl? Sometimes the obviously inferior competitor wins. Why, look at the last Presidential election... :p
