Hi,

I don't know if any of you lot will have come across this - but I think its an interesting idea, very very very controversial but it looks like its being approached in an intelligent manner.

Opinions? - is the games industry (and its players) mature enough for this sort of product?

Interesting looking through the comments.

The game looks like it has potential, but I wonder how deep the database is for the stories. It could get repetitive pretty quickly.

It is an interesting concept, but I doubt it will really be that great of a "game". From the developers website, it appears that this is being marketed for school use as an educational tool, so I doubt it will get too deep into the many complex issues.

I also believe that it is very difficult to make this kind of game without leaning one way or another - after all, after doing all the research necessary in this type of game, I doubt many people who remain completely unbiased. Even if it is just barely leaning one way or the other, the lean is there.

However, I have no doubt that both sides will get completed pissed about this game.

I applaud the new concept though.

what JPhillips said. certainly looks interesting, but it will all depend on how deep the DB is for stories. that will determine the replayability, and that along with price will determine if it's something i purchase...

it's definately...a different kind of game though

I think that the game industry/game players are not mature enough to handle this. The people who care the most about this issue are not going to be happy with the product because they are not happy with anything other than their own side. Look at some of the early comments under the trailer.

That said, I guess any publicity is good publicity, and there is a good chance that this game will get some media buzz for being controversial.

Indeed, even if it isn't a good game, it might get some good sales because non-gamers might hear about it and get interested because of the controversial topic.

I think people are mature enough for this. Even though it's based on real-world, it's still a game. There have been more gruesome and racey games out I think.

I also think that the game will not be very good. Maybe good for one play-through.

That is not what I thought I would see when I clicked on "A truly controversial adult game." Very disappointing.

Yeah I forgot to mention this too. I was expecting some crazy fetish game.

I'm not sure if its a matter of maturity as much as a matter of attachment vs. detachment to real world topics like this. And that always boils down to the individual, which by default would lend itself to a majority of people being able to have a detachment to the real world aspect of it, IMHO.

Maybe it falls into a category similar to sports gamers who prefer fictional vs. real world players in their sports games. Some prefer fictional, as it allows for the creation of an alternate reality with no preconcieved notions or expectations...while other might prefer real world/historical players as it allows for a reinforcement of personal belief about your favorite team being better than they are/were, etc. Obviously, these are different games, but maybe some of these aspects play a role here as well.

I wouldnt personally buy it(for various reasons), but I also dont believe in restricting the market from purchasing it. Personally, I think the market is always the best way to determine things like this...even if it is in direct disagreement with my own tastes.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what the gameplay consists of. Do you just walk around watching these things happen and then drag and drop headlines and photos?

The graphics are atrociously bad as well.

I doubt enough people will play it to spark any sort of controversy.

I do like the idea in theory though, as some sort of interactive educational tool, but I don't see it doing well.

An interesting idea. My first thought was "wow, what a no-win game".

I doubt it will be deep enough to prove entertaining for longer than an hour or so because there just haven't been any games similar to it. To clarify- there's nothing even remotely like it genre-wise so to expect one company to completely invent and polish a genre at one time, particularly with a politically charged theme and likely bias no matter how hard they try to keep it out and make a "fair" game, is just impossible. But someone has to take the first step.

It's a great idea and could spawn a new genre. Sure, the audience isn't all-reaching but it certainly could have a nice niche like text-based sports sims.
