Yes...tell us all about our responsibility to the enviornment by holding a concert that will consume enough energy to light up a city. All we need is egotistical rock stars telling us how to not live to excess.

Come on they are doing the whole thing green! They are paying off, er I mean they are paying for their carbon output.

Let's waste excessive amounts of energy and then just use our money to cover it up! YES!

Who?

You know, Akron! In my opinion, he's a little below Cleveland, but above Canton. He's far above Columbus too!

An alternate take on Live Earth (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in_article_id=466775&in_page_id=1879)

Just in case anyone was wondering how all this jetting around the globe to perform was effecting the environment.

The most conservative assessment of the flights being taken by its superstars is that they are flying an extraordinary 222,623.63 miles between them to get to the various concerts - nearly nine times the circumference of the world. The true environmental cost, as they transport their technicians, dancers and support staff, is likely to be far higher.

The total carbon footprint of the event, taking into account the artists' and spectators' travel to the concert, and the energy consumption on the day, is likely to be at least 31,500 tonnes of carbon emissions, according to John Buckley of Carbonfootprint.com, who specialises in such calculations.

Until the MLB holds a home run derby for global warming awareness, I won't believe it exists.

"Carbon footprint" has already jumped the shark, and I've only heard the term for about a week.

I do like this article, though:

Al Gore Defends Arrested Son’s Carbon Offset Strategy (http://www.scrappleface.com/?p=2627)
by Scott Ott

(2007-07-05) — Al Gore, the concert organizer and former U.S. vice president, today defended his son, Al III, after the younger Gore’s arrest for speeding and drug possession, applauding his use of the hybrid Toyota Prius to offset the carbon emissions of his smoking marijuana.

“Even at 100 miles per hour,” said the elder Mr. Gore, “the Prius produces less deadly greenhouse gas than a Lincoln Navigator or a Hummer. While I don’t condone getting caught with marijuana, I would venture to say that my boy’s total carbon footprint is still substantially smaller than the median for his socioeconomic and age brackets.”

The former presidential candidate, still considered a possible contender for the 2008 Democrat nomination, is about to take center stage at the global LIVE EARTH concerts this weekend.

Mr. Gore helped organize LIVE EARTH to dramatize the plight of the planet by having hundreds of thousands of people burn millions of gallons of carbon-based fuel to travel to eight locations worldwide where they’ll communally exhale billions of cubic yards of carbon dioxide, generate hundreds of tons of human and artificial waste and expend untold kilowatt hours of electricity.

“People don’t realize how bad they are for the planet,” he said. “But when we’re all together at these concert locations, it will paint a picture of horrifying waste and environmental devastation. We’re hoping people will see it, wake up and say, ‘We have to stop doing this!’.”

What are you saying, Scarecrow, the biggest climate awareness event ever could also be the most climate abusive one-day event in human history? That's quite the irony.

I'm going to assume that must be a fake story.

Funny thing about Toyota Prius is that they are worse for the enviornment then normal cars when it's all said and done. Considering the chemicals used to make them.

Yeah, I tend to think so. The best part is the "I don't condone getting caught with marijuana" line. Funny stuff.

What else but Live Earth could get Spinal Tap to reunite and have a 10+ bass player version of "Big Bottoms"

Serious. I don't pay attention to this stuff, so I'll believe anything. Except Al Gore.

You know, I have to give them credit, since the Arctic Monkeys have stated that Ian Brown is their musical hero.
