After just over eight years "behind enemy lines" as Lewis Grizzard would say, I have finally landed a job that brings me and my family back to North Carolina. My new job is essentially (though not technically) in RTP and we'll be living in Raleigh initially. I'll be moving down in August and starting the job right before Labor Day.

Woo-hoo! I can finally get to watch the Pack and the Canes in person again! No more schlock Big 10 games sapping the ABC channel and overriding better national games! Panthers instead of the Lions on Fox! Well...there is the Bob-Johnson-Tar-Cats, but that's a minor thing in the grand scheme.

I'm coming home! :D

Thanks, guys. It's been a long time in coming and as a matter of fact I just made it official by emailing my boss my two-week notice and resignation.

My wife and I have been wanting to come back to North Carolina for a few years now, but the timing wasn't working out with two new kids and a bit of a struggle in finding the right job opportunity. However, I've found a job that generally is what I do now, but in the Triangle and at a much higher compensation level. It's not my ideal job, but it is a job I know I can do well and, more importantly, it's home. Just can't beat that.

Even so, I'll be a little sad leaving here. There are a lot of good people I work with and it's going to be difficult to leave them. Leaving on the best of terms, I guess, which is how it should be.

No one can fault you for leaving to go home. That's a reason that everyone should be able to understand.

Why would you want to leave an area where you can see 4-5 Big Ten games any given weekend?

I have no idea. I lived in AAC Country (D.C.) for a few years and the college football offerings on Saturday afternoons were less than stellar...

That's ACC, buddy. And we're a great...(remembers Wake Forest winning the ACC last year)...really good...(oh, yeah, FSU and Miami were 6-6 last year)...er, so-so football conference. And don't you forget it! :D

Seriously, I don't mind Michigan or Ohio State or whatever being on, but when Texas-Oklahoma or whatever is being blocked out because the local ABC station is carrying the highly important Indiana-Northwestern tilt on ESPN+, well, that's a bit much.

Congrats..I can't wait to get home...I'm stationed in the UK. It's a nice place to visit, but not to live. The top reason I don't like it here..NO SWEET TEA!

First major milestone is in the books as I am now done with my job at Michigan. Now comes the fun part: getting pictures taken tomorrow for the house-for-sale ad, getting the remainder of the things in the house packed up by Tuesday, getting the wife and kids on their way Tuesday morning for a two-day trip to Charlotte to stay with my folks, getting everything moved out of the house Tuesday, leaving me with some clothes, a TV, a computer, an air mattress, two cats, their food, and their litter box for a week to do cleaning and painting, then driving said cats on a harrowing 12-hour-plus one-day push from here to Raleigh whereupon I will await the arrival of the rest of the house and family. Hopefully, my sanity will return in time for me to start my new job at the end of the month.
