View Full Version : Is my dog ... tipping me?

Whenever I feed my dog soft dog food, cut into squares, she eats all of it but the last one.
If I feed her crunchy food, she eats all of it but leaves just one small piece left.
Sometimes I give her Milkbones, broken up into a few pieces (she's a small dog), one of the pieces ends up on my pillow ... or when I take a shower (I lay my clothes out on the bed), a small pieces ends up on my clothes when I get out.
Is my dog tipping me or something? It's really weird.
EDIT: Corrected spelling of "milkbones"

Ha, great posts, however on the serious side. your dog is indeed acknowledging your dominance and that you are the pack leader. And therefore must take your share of the food.

Maybe the dog was a mafia underling in a past life......I guess if that were true, the dog would deliver the last piece to rizon in an envelope, after kissing him on both cheeks.

I hope you are showing respect and eating it so that your dog can see that it makes you happy.

I'll go with this. It is the ultimate sign of respect.

Cats will do this, too. If they catch a mouse, they'll present it to the leader (presumably you). You're supposed to be nice to the cat then, otherwise he or she will try harder next time to please you.

I do this with the Milkbone, except I just pretend to eat it. She'll sit and watch me and then have a satisfied look on her face after I'm done.

To really establish dominance, you should grab the milkbone out of her mouth and and eat the whole thing in front of her.

your dog clearly owns you.
thing has you fake eating milkbones and accepting the fact it's leaving food everywhere.

Every morning when I open the front door, I always wonder what will be there waiting for me like a little present from my cat. I just hope it's dead.
He came home a few weeks ago and was a mess, ear torn up, leg with bites and we took him to the vet. He said our cat had gotten into it with a raccoon. He stayed inside and healed up for about a week. When I let him back out, the next morning there was a dead baby raccoon on the doorstep. :D

 Glad he hadn't "gotten into it" with a human!

My dog just inhales all the food in about 30 seconds. No tips. Matter of fact, he licks the bowl clean. And it's dry food.

I prefer that. None of these little food games. Don't feed him for a couple days. Then see how much respect you can command.

Heh, one of our cats had a similar experience, though he took on a mother fox. Came back with a nice gash on his head.
There are no more foxes around there.

If I'm lucky he'd eat the cat.

Well, if you really ate it, it would improve your breath, right? ;)

"Is my dog ... tripping me?" --Brian Griese
Gold.
Going off on a tangent here, as a Broncos fan, I'm worried about what kind of silly injury Jay Cutler is going to get. Brian Griese hurt himself when he tripped over his dog, Jake Plummer broke his foot when he fell off Tim Couch, and now I wonder what's next.

Shannon Sharpe's reaction to the Griese thing was the greatest stuff of all time.
Tight end Shannon Sharpe (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1329) expressed disbelief when informed of Griese's version of his latest injury.
"Are you jiving?" he said. "I know you're all joking."
Convinced it was true, Sharpe said, "I don't believe I'd have told that one. I'm not a very good storyteller, but I think I could have come up with a better one than that.
"I've heard that 'I stepped out of my car at work' or 'I went back for a pass and all of a sudden I stepped on someone's foot'. But a dog pushing me down the stairs? Oh, my goodness. I'm going to have to let Mike handle that one.
"So the dog stood up on his hindlegs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog or put him in the circus, one of the two."

Shannon Sharpe is great for a sound bite, if you can understand what the hell he's saying.

He would probably be a starter on an NFL all-time soundbyte team.

My son's cat doesn't leave food, but she doesn't eat out of the bowl either...she picks up a mouthful of food - we only feed her dry food - and drops it on the floor, then she eats that a little at a time, and then gets another big mouthful and drops it on the floor. She's done it since she was a kitten, and now is teaching our new kitten to do the same...which basically means I have to vaccuum every day or have little pieces of cat food stuck to my feet when I walk around the apartment.

Your cat and my cat should get together and make a cat Sopranos.
