Just got home from being called in to Jury Duty. Actually got called in to two Jury Pools..

First case was right after they finished roll call.. it was a fairly major trial, 78 prospective folks were called in. An older (50+) man indicted on four charges of sexual assault on a minor (boy) under the age of 16. I was the first one up, (I was prospective juror #1)... and the defense attorney used his power to challenge without cause.

Good thing too, this case was scheduled to go over just a week

the 2nd case, a few hours later, was a man charged with OUI and possession of a Class D substance. Needless to say, with what happened nine months ago, the challenge was with cause.

We were told after the the 2nd pool, that we could go home :)

I have never been called in for jury duty. I would like to be for the experience.

I've been a juror twice.

The first was a DUI case that ended in a hung jury. They had video of the guy who was obviously (to me) drunk. When the police car pulled up the guy was passed out in the front seat in the median of the road with the engine still running. He hadn't hit anything. But he refused the breathalyzer, and 3 of the jurors said they thought he might have just been sick. The defense never put on a case. The rest of the jurors were a little unhappy. The judge was Judge Joe Brown and he looked about as bored as I've ever seen a man.

The second was a car wreck lawsuit and we deliberated for maybe an hour before finding for the defendant.

Jury Duty can be a frustrating experience, but I recommend it anyway. At least I learned to never submit to a breathalyzer if I'm ever stupid enough to drink and drive.

I was selected for a jury but we were released before opening arguments - some motion for lack of evidence presented in discovery or some such was passed.

Had jury duty 3 times and selected once. The one I was selected for was a murder trial where this guy in his 40s was so strung out on heroin that he beat his mom to death with a tire iron because he thought she was going to turn him in for stealing money from her.

GUILTY! Life in prison with no paroll.

I've been summoned a few times, but only had to serve once - civil suit where an elderly Hispanic lady was suing 7-11, the proprietor of a specific 7-11 location, and the City of Los Angeles because she tripped and broke her wrist on the sidewalk surrounding the property.

It was kind of a weird trial. Bizarre witness summonings, contradictory testimony, and a plaintiff's lawyer who managed to elicit evidence beneficial to the defense from the plaintiff herself.

Unanimous verdict for dismissal, and the only reason it took 15 minutes was that there was one lady who completely agreed that none of the three defendants should be held liable, but still felt like the plaintiff should be compensated somehow.

Just a bizarre trial.
