CD-RW Suggestions

I thought it was my sound card, but it's my CD-RW that took a giant dump. The lesson here is don't buy Phillips products...the damn thing was only about a year old.

Well, I threw in my old 72X Kenwood drive for the time being, but I want to replace that CD-RW. I'm looking for one that's quick, fairly inexpensive (under $200 MRP) and won't have the constant conflicts with SafeDisc and other copy protection software that I've had with the shitty Phillips drive. Any suggestions?

CD-RWs are cheap.

you can get a TDK drive for $80 (if not less). Lite-On has one that's cheaper (newegg has it for $50).

Do not just go for the 'cheapest' drive you can find. There is quality out there for reasonable prices. Without this quality you might have trouble burning backups and such, as a lot of the mass market drives don't have buffer underrun protection.

Best drive I've ever seen is the Plextor. Their quality is far superior to any other drive on the market, but you'll usually pay for it. The best bang for your buck drive is a Lite-On, sold seperately or sometimes repackaged by CynDyne. NOTE: Not all Cyndyne packaged drives are Lite-On, open the box first if you can and check. If they won't let you open the box, go somewhere else or order a Lite-On boxed drive from somewhere. Lite-On is the cheapest I've found that come with the under and over buffer protection.
