Long Term Injury Comebacks - Thoughts?

I did a quick search and while this has probably been discussed, could not immediately find anything on it.

I had a young monster LG (78/78) who went down with a degenerative hip condition in the middle of his third year. I lost the guy for a year and a half. He was signed to a 4 year contract as a rookie meaning that he would be a UFA. I was smart enough not to sign him but rather let his contract expire to see where his ratings ended up at.

He ended up coming away from his injury as a 43/43 (30 RB, 82 PB, 42 PS, 12 END). The question isn't to resign him, as he's now asking for cheap money and at worst will be a decent option off the bench.

My question is, has anyone ever seen guys like this creep back up? Understandably, he'll never get to where he was, but he's still young (25 years old, 4 seasons in the league, 32 starts) and in theory could have the potential to develop some more.

Is there a possibility for this guy to go 55/55 or 60/60?

Unlikely. I personally haven't seen it. The best I had was a WR tear his achilles, and go out for about 36 weeks. He was about a 65/65, and then came out of it at about 52/52 -- and I was darned pleased. In 2K4, he would have been a for sure goner. Anyways, two seasons later, he is 56/56. He was a pretty darn good WR before his injury stat wise, but the 2 seasons afterwards, he's been even better, putting up a 100-catch, 1,700 yard season and leading the league 2 years running in yards/attempt.

That is kinda realistic. As far as i know speed/agility players take up to two years to fully recover there agility and one for their straight line speed. Seems realistic that he would bounce back upwards after that time. Nice to see that happening with injuries such as that.

How old was the WR when this happened? The only reason I would be optimistic for a bounce back is the youth and the fact that not all players have necessarily maxed out by their 4/5th season.

If he was an 8 year vet or something, then no, I would not expect any recovery in skills.

For my guy, he was 5th season.

Not meaning to bump this thread but was searching to find some info on the degenerative hip. We lost a top young QB this last week for 105 weeks when Kenny Anderson went down. Looks like Cincy will be in the market for a new franchise QB next draft.

I think at times, rating losses after injuries are overblown. I've seen players go down with injuries, lose a ton of ratings, and still play to the level or even better than they have before.

Any idea on how players come back from torn deltoid muscles? Out for 24 weeks?

I had a stud safety 68/73 go down with a torn acl (46weeks) in preseason of his rookie season. He came back the next season with no ratings hit and actually went up to 82/82 after his second TC. This was probably not typical though.

unknown recovery time. Just curious if this will be a career or a 1 year thing?

Could be next week, could be next season. I don't think I've ever seen an Unknown injury go through the offseason.
