Once we have 12 teams, I'll give us an extra day in case anyone wants to update their rankings, then I'll run the draft.

We're up to 8 teams so far...where the hell is Team Pumpy??

Just give me all the Sabres players from the past few seasons, including Havlat Pyat and Dumont, that should do me.

Setting up this draft was rediculous tough. So many good quality players and so few true super stars/sure things.

If I set the draft to ready Monday morning, is that enough time for everyone? Sooner? Later?

Also, anyone with any thoughts on the scoring categories, I'm open to any changes.

Also, anyone with any thoughts on the scoring categories, I'm open to any changes.

Too many offensive categories, IMO. In a perfect world, I'd get rid of PPG and PPA and just use PPP ... ditto SHG and SHA. Really, short-handed points are rare enough that it's kinda silly to track them at all. My preference would be to get rid of SH points altogether, but if we're going to use them, at least combine them into SHP. I'm assuming FW = Faceoffs won, which has never struck me as a great fantasy stat, so I wouldn't mind seeing that go as well.

But that's just me...I'll roll with whatever the masses want. :)

I have no problem combining PPP and SHP.

Faceoff wins...I just added to have a different category. We all know (relatively) who the point producers will be, this just adds a little more strategy to it.

But, same as above, everyone else wants to drop it, I am fine with taking them out.

Hey guys, if any of you are interested I've got a league up that I was hoping to get 10 local owners for, but with the draft being tonight I'd like to fill up the ranks a bit.

Settings will be staying as is, and as mentioned, the draft is tonight (and a bit late for the eastern members), but we've got a couple that are auto drafting already, so that wouldn't put you too far behind if you're willing to go that route.

Thanks, will do. My only concern right now is how it'll handle things if we have an odd number of owners. Right now we have 8 but I'd like 10 or 12 so I'll be doing some checking around tonight to try and find at least one other so we can hit double digits.

Hey all, delayed our draft until Sunday night at 10:30pm EST. We've got room for up to 3 owners, but we'll be making sure we're at an even number of teams 45 minutes prior to draft time (as they nix your draft half an hour prior to your scheduled draft time if you have an odd number of teams).

Sorry for the hassle, I'm totally blaming yahoo ;)

I'd be good for tomorrow night pretty much anytime after 7:45est (not sure how many east/west coasters are in the league, but I'm not off work until 7:00est). Friday I'm pretty free and clear for the same time frame but Thursday I've got hockey (I'm fine with autodrafting if need be, but would definitely prefer a live draft if it can be coordinated).

boberot

At this point, my instinct is to autodraft soon as well -- trying to organize a live draft now might be tough.

Don't the European games start the 4th?

Travis
10-02-2008, 09:58 AM
Why not see who all would be around for a draft tomorrow night, and if at least 3/4 of the league can't make it, then go auto?

Myself, I'd be good for 7:45est and later and if it's up for discussion my Saturday is pretty flexible if that'd work better.

samifan24
10-02-2008, 12:26 PM
I could do a live draft on Friday night but not Saturday night. I'm thinking we just have to do an autodraft now, which is okay, but I rarely change my rankings because it takes too much time. A live draft is much preferred is enough players can make it.

Suburban Rhythm

I went back to create the draft for tonight...and no longer have the option.

This morning at about 7:30 I could have chosen tonight, but no longer can choose 10/03.

That's one of the few things I don't like about fantasy hockey. It just gets to be too time consuming to change your lineup every single day.

Although, nothing can beat what I have in my work league-- Osgood and Fleury. I should be good for about 80 wins easy.

Overall I am happy with my team. I ended up with Gonchar...but got Letang.

Edit to add-- Taz, I don't think Garon is that bad. Not an elite, but 30 wins isn't a stretch.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with my team. I have a couple of forwards I don't know much about but I'm hoping they turn out to be high upside guys.

I'm pretty happy with my "french connection," too. No real superstars after Ovechkin [unless you count cover boy Rick Nash], but lots of solid scoring guys who have good +/- and contribute PIM -- which is just what I was going for.

Goalies are hopefully going to be sufficient, if unspectacular.

Wow, I have to call that a great auto draft for me. No Flames, got Hemsky and a nice late round pickup in Carcillo.

Now then, who wants Toskala?

Since you're an Oilers fan, can you please tell me more about Sam Gagner? I have him on my roster and by all accounts he had a pretty good rookie year but I know little about him. Where does he rank with the good, young center prospects like Kyle Turris and the guys in Phoenix?

Have a question...

This is my first year doing yahoo fantasy hockey. I'm in 3 leagues just for the heck of it (1 with guys I know in the Minneapolis music scene).

Why do they count PIMs?! I lost my first week partly because I lost the PIM category. Wouldn't it make sense to reward the team with fewer PIMs?

It's a challenge to find guys who get lot's of PIMs and can score the odd goal also.

Guys like Bob Probert or Al secord were the bomb when it came to this.

Any ideas how Yahoo determines if a player is on the IR? Marc-Andre Fleury has been out for almost two weeks now but is still only considered "day-to-day." How does IR work in the NHL?

teams can have 23 players on their roster. if a player is injured, they can put him on the IR (minimum IR time is 7 days) and replace him on the roster.

the problem (for fantasy leagues) is that teams don't always put a player on the IR - if he's coming back soon or if they had roster space already (it's not uncommon for a team to carry just 22 players normally).

Does anyone need a goalie? I have Luongo, Biron, Fleury and Clemmensen and am looking to deal one of them for a goal scorer. Please make me an offer.

Also, I notice that there doesn't seem to be much roster activity in the league of late. One team still has Selanne active and he's been injured since mid-December. How many of you are checking the league at least once a week?

I tend to hop in and reset my lineups for weeks ahead then ignore it, which is why I keep falling behind =)

Actually, I'll chime in too. Anybody looking to move a defenseman? I've got some depth both up front and in net (can definitely look at any deals for people needing help at C, RW and G).

I don't understand why Yahoo didn't combine this week (2 days of games) with next week to create a more balanced schedule, like they did with the first two weeks of the season.

Now that you mention it, I probably will too.
:)

Not that you asked, but when my kids were little I used to improv these long bedtime stories. They would just evolve night after night. One of the more popular ones was about "Pluggy and Boberot," names the kids came up with out of whatever crazy gray matter kids come up with stuff.

Yeah, kind of curious as well. My work league is weekly lineup changes, and minimum 3 goalie starts, which, maybe 2-3 teams will earn this week.

I sent a msg questioning it, doubt we'll get a (good) explanation.

When I checked my leagues today there was a disclaimer stating that if your league has a goalie minimum that it'd be disregarded this week. One of my leagues is daily changes, the other weekly and both had that disclaimer.

Playoffs, woo hoo!

Congratulations to Travis, who held the top spot in the league for almost the entire season. I surely hope I don't have to play you in the playoffs.

Congratulations to Travis for winning the league title. He led the league for most of the season and it was only fitting that he won out in the playoffs. Congratulations to "French Connection" (boberot?) for a second place finish. I finished third. The only thing that's frustrating about playoffs in a head to head league is that I was second for the entire season and suddenly I lose one week and I'm in third place. Oh well. I had a lot of fun in this league. Perhaps next year we can do a live draft league?

Yeah, nice job Travis.

Talk about cruel irony.

I kicked the "'bulin wall" to the curb after he was injured for a while and ineffective in his return.

Dude came back and posted like 7 wins, 2 SOs and a sub 2.0 GAA in the two week championship and pretty much turned the tide.

You had a pretty good club too, Sami.

Pencil me in for next year if you guys are going again.

Hope your teams fare better than mine [Sabres] :( .

Thanks guys, it was a really fun season. Would have rather seen the Oilers kick MacT to the curb in January and then make the playoffs, but if they're going to suck then I may as well at least enjoy the fantasy season.
