Good Multiplayer PC Game?

My friend and I are looking for a good multiplayer PC game to play sometimes to relax from school. We'd need to be able to connect over the internet. Any suggestions? We can't really think of anything. It could either be something we play against each other or co-op against other people.

I have a slightly old computer (1.5 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, minimal video card) so it can't be too graphic intensive. Any type of game would really be Ok -- flight sim, strategy, sports, anything...

So any ideas?

How about Battlefield 2? You would have to find a common server to log onto, and you would be playing with other guys, but it is a really fun game (IMO).
