Here's the article written by Dave Kindred for GolfWorld Magazine:

Here's a video of one of the alleged holes-in-one.

So....what kind of mental illness does this lady have?

Not the kind of mental illness that translates to "good in bed" is my guess.

From the appearence of that article, she doesn't have to write a book - that guy already wrote one for her.

This girl is nothing. I hit 18 hole-in-ones in a single round the night after scoring 101 points in an NBA game and 757 home runs in a MLB match.

dola

And I should mention that, lest any of you be unbelievers, all my feats were witnessed by Dave.

"I would have to pay off a ton of people if it was a lie," she wrote to me, "and then if I was not telling the truth I would be arrested for stealing."

Ah, the I-would-have-to-be-crazy-to-have-done-it-due-to-these-phony-hypothetical-consequences defense. Convinces me every time.

I skimmed that article... pro golfers really get that many holes-in-one (including casual holes)??

Dave's not here, man.

I'm hoping his article will be nominated for the Best American Sports Writing series -- really solid approach to the story, and he goes a lot further with it than was warranted by the obvious falsity of the woman's claims.

I can't see the video unfortunately, but this just reminds me of when I was a camp counselor. We had a mini golf course set up, and the kids would always come running to us all happy because they had "Eleven Holes in Ones."

Dumb kids were smacking the ball all over the place. But if it went in the hole at the end, it was a hole in one.

I've got to admit that I expected something completely different from this thread for two reasons:

1) It was started by Karlifornia.
2) The thread title was a female name.

Hey, isn't that Keith Hernandez's wife?

I agree--I thought it was a great article, content & style.

Honestly, this story really, really infuriates me--and my interest in golf is practically zero. It combines two of the things I hate most in the world:

1) frauds that won't admit their fraudy fraudacity even after it becomes painfully obvious

2) the blasé, uncritical dissemination of (what should be) obvious untruths. I was searching for more commentary on this story and had to sift through tons of articles from major newspapers like USA Today that just ran this woman's story as fact, without a hint of skepticism. And the golf analyst mentioned in Kindred's article... ugh... I can picture him yucking it up with some bland morning show hosts and this shameless phony, who's thinking the whole time "Finally I'm getting the recognition that I <i>deserve</i>"."

Some choice quotes from a <a href="http://www.marketwire.com/mw/release.do?id=737419&sourceType=1">press release</a> the publicist she hired put out:

Par Three Prophetess

For 46-year-old gifted golfer Jacqueline Gagne, rarity has become routine. By her own hand (and some say the hand of God himself), she has managed to re-create the miraculous time and again. After her astounding FOURTEENTH hole-in-one (all since January 2007) playing with friends at Desert Willow Golf Resort, she has now become something of a Par Three Prophetess!

...

Shakespeare said, "Some are born great, others achieve greatness, and some people have greatness thrust upon them." For Jacqueline Gagne -- all of the above are true!

deep breaths, deep breaths...

check out the blog on her website. Insanity. I think she may be truly delusional.

What a fraud. But a guess a sucker is born every minute and she created a story that people will eat up.

Wait, so God is causing these aces?

Then I buy it.
