Go see it. Clooney's going to get an Oscar, barring some amazing performance between now and January.

Why the hell did they make a movie about an underachieving Bucs receiver?

I have no idea why anyone would see this movie based on the previews. Is it just me, or is Michael Clayton based on a real story or a book? The title of the movie hurts it because it doesn't give a good description of what the movie is. The previews don't say what the story is. The only reason why I would go see this movie is because of the actors...of which the only one I recognize by name is George Clooney and that isn't enough to sell me on seeing it. I recognize the old chick from Narnia, but I don't know her name.

Opened the thread to say I had him his rookie year, but got burned when i drafted him like 5th round the following year!

I am not thinking like Jeebs...is there a 12 step program for this?

I believe it's based on a Pulitzer Prize winning book, actually, if I recall from the credits.

The underlying story (the legal-business defense of a huge corporation--and its prestigious law firm--in a classic action lawsuit) is complicated and this is a movie you have to pay attention to because they give you a lot of details and don't apologize if you miss something.

But the basic story about Clooney--Michael Clayton--himself if pretty easy to follow. He is a lawyer with the law firm above, a "fixer". He's the guy who goes in to take care of things when everything goes to crap, but he doesn't litigate himself. The story here focuses on him going in to fix a situation where the lead litigator in the above class action lawsuit apparently goes crazy in a deposition, taking off his clothes and getting himself arrested.

I don't think I can go into it more than that without getting into spoiler territroy, though.

Saw it yesterday. Agree on Clooney's performance. Liked but didn't love the movie though.

This is how I feel.

And I think the title is perfect since Clayton is on screen about 90% of the time and its about his struggle with morality.

I really, really, really liked this movie. Didn't know thing one about it going in, other than the reviews were good.

This, to me, is the sort of layered acting that is worthy of an award -- much more so than the actor who "stretches" to play someone with a bizarre handicap, personality defect, or other oddity. I'm pretty much in the bag for Clooney anyway (honestly, he gets the prettyboy reputation, but it's hard to find any flick of his where he was anything but ideal for the role) but I thought he was fantastic.
