Welcome to the first edition of Love 'em or Hate 'em. Hopefully this will be a long series on players, teams, leagues ect.

Up first is, Terrell Owens.

Terrell Owens is a 12 year NFL veteran who currently plays for the Dallas Cowboys. He is know by many fans simply by his initinals T.O. and as one of the more productive, but outspoken players in the league. A five time Pro Bowl WR pulling in 835 passes for 12,271 yards and 119 TDs (2 rushing). Owens was drafted in the thrid round in 1996 by the San Francisco 49ers and has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles before his current team the Cowboys.
Some of his more animated antics on the field did not result in statics though. On September 24, 2000 in Dallas, Terrell Owens showed off his excitement after his two touchdown catches by running from the endzone to midfield and celebrating on the Dallas Cowboys' famous star logo. The second time Owens made a trip to the star, then Cowboys safety George Teague hit him during the celebration, sending him sprawling to the turf. Teague would be ejected for his actions, while Owens was suspended for a week by his head coach and was fined $24,000 which was equal to a week's pay.

Love 'em. Say what you will, but he plays hard every down.

Doesn't mean much when his disruptive attitude hurts the team.

You mean like all those downs when he drops the ball on easy catches because he isn't concentrating?

"Hate" is too strong for my feelings about Owens. But his act has certainly grown tiresome.

then think of it as Like 'em or Dislike 'em and vote that way...I'm using the terms Love & Hate as most "talk sports" people do, not in the true Hate them sense.

Your description is missing the whole "forced a trade to a team of his choosing, then forced his way off that team when it didn't go quite his way" set of episodes.

I guess the Super Bowl performance has given me blinders or something. But he became one of my favourite receivers after that game.

"Hate" is too weak for my feelings about Owens.

I have not watched a cowboys game since the trade, when Jerry Jones signed somebody who disgraced the cowboys midfield logo I could not believe it.

I rather have chad johnson, mike vick, and oj simpson on my team then him, at least they have not disrespected the other team like Owens did.

there's no way you haven't watched a cowboy game since the trade if you are a fan of the team

It doesn't, but that was a player-defining moment for me. :) Combine that with finding most of his antics entertaining, and liking how he plays when I see him play... and I Love 'em.

I guess I just don't watch enough games, but he seems to go to the middle a lot, and isn't a horrible blocker.

TO does go over the middle. He also short-arms the ball if he thinks he's going to get hit.

Owens is a great receiver, and in the grand scheme of things his antics are not criminal or otherwise 'wrong'.

That said, I think I'd really hate to be on the guy's team regardless of the above. You can be great at your job and not a criminal and still be a total dick.

I'm not sure how Chad Johnson got lumped in with Michael Vick and O.J. Simpson. You could've chosen eight better examples than Chad Johnson. Actually, there are even more than eight examples if you had chosen from teams other than the Bengals.

I don't understand either! I think quite a few people would take Chad Johnson over T.O. I like both of them, so it's a hard decision.

T. O. Has helped me realize that I am indeed a homer. While he was a Niner, I clearly was an apologist for him, defending his actions with his play. Now, I just can't stand the guy.

Despite being an Eagles fan, I still have a hard time actively disliking Owens. "He amuses me" is a pretty good summation.

(On this...I am having a hard time disliking this incarnation of the Cowboys. I must be getting soft. But I really didn't like Jimmy's Cowboys, and LOATHED Michael Irvin. But it's very hard to dislike Romo, and very hard to dislike Wade Phillips. They just seem like decent, happy-go-luckish guys.)

Does "off the field" include the side lines where he's yelling at various quarterbacks? Oh just wait . . . it'll happen in Dallas too. His "friendship" with Romo won't last ;)

Johnson >> Owens >>>> Vick >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Simpson.

I'd take Chad on my team, in a heart beat. But prefering Vick and Simpson to TO? Man, that's just egregious.

Hate em..
I am about as die hard as it gets as a Cowboys fan but I find it hard to even cheer for this team knowing he is on it.

He is, to me, the epitome of everything that is wrong with sports.

And the Dallas Star incident just cemented my hatred for him and ever lasting adoration for "22". Each showed the right and wrong way to make a statement.

Was a big fan of Cowboys, started about the 1-15 season and ended when they signed Owens. Most likely be a fan again after Jerry Jones and Owens leave. I would rather watch them go 0-16 the rest of my life then have Owens. I have watched less than a half of nfl games total this season. Just can not stand most of the nfl players.

I like players like Barry Sanders who handed the ball to the ref after scoring .

You know, maybe it's the hockey fan in me talking, but I wish people would let the whole "star" thing go. Owens went after the star one time, and then when he tried to do it again, Teague made him pay. A guy screwed up, someone made him pay the price, and that should be the end of it if the guy doesn't try to do it again. It was an on-field issue that got settled on the field.

Personally, I think Owens' blatant disrespect for his coaches and teammates in San Francisco and Philadelphia is far worse than any of his on-field antics, but that's just me.

T.O. plays with a passion and heart that a lot of people don't. Yeah, he has his meltdown moments, but I think in some ways you have to be a little off to produce the kind of legendary performances he's capable of (like in that Super Bowl).

I really empathize with him, actually.

so...when did the cowboy logo become the virgin mary? he's worse than OJ and vick? please.

TO is just a tempermental, troubled man who needs attention and probably is a self-loathing homosexual or something. I'd much rather endure his antics on my TV once a week than suffer them in my workplace or on an airplane, etc etc.
