You know what I'm talking about. The style of shirt referred to as a wife beater. Why has there never been any kind of uproar to get this name dropped? I could ask my mom to buy me a wife beater and she wouldn't flinch, it's so normal. How in 2007 is that possible?
I had to google this to see what you are talking about, those are always referred to as A-Shirts for me.

"Wife Beater" is a slang term for them, isn't it? I don't think they'd advertise them that way... over here we call them wife beaters for slang, but "offically" they are just singlets.

I've heard plenty of people bitch about it.

You know I never heard this term until I moved to Phoenix. When I was growing up, we just called them tank tops. I don't know when this term came into style, but I definitely don't remember it being referred as that in the 80s or 90s.

Groundhog stole my answer. It's just a nickname...they don't say "Wife Beaters" on the package when you buy them. If any company actually did put it on the package, I'm sure there would be an uproar...

Actually agree with Shorty. That is the ONLY thing I have ever heard them called and I have NEVER actually heard anyone complain about it.

I always find men who wear wife beaters amusing, because at this point everyone knows they are called wife beaters, and yet these dudes have decided that wearing one is still a good idea.
"Wife Beater eh? Ya, I can relate to that. This product seems to embody the image I want to portray. I'll take 6."

My six year old son wears these type of shirts, and loves them. But we call them "sister beaters". He's only six, there's no wife.
