Since this board seems to help many people in the grieving process, please allow me a moment of your time for. My brother died in his sleep unexpectedly on December 31st at the age of 51.

If there was ever someone who lived a full life, it was Mark. He was diagnosed with autisim at a very young age, yet he graduated from college. He was an avid bikerider and just passed 10k miles (FOR THE YEAR!!!). He was a wonderful, loving man and had many friends. He was a speaker for the Collin County Autism Society and has helped many families find hope for their young children in learning that they can lead normal lives.

I loved him and will miss him very much.

Godspeed, Mark. We'll all miss you.

Thanks for your time and your thoughts.

Wonderful stuff. Having a person with autism succeed at that level is a great motivation to anyone who knows or has family members with autism. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone. Message board condolences really do help :)

My father has tasked me with going through my brother's laptop and trying to find an clue as to his "last words". Very morbid stuff, that.

Glad to hear it helps.

I really hope that if I died suddenly my family wouldn't go through my laptop looking for my last words. Any such search would inevitably lead them here and my last words would probably be something like:

"Suck it! :D "

That or some boring, over-long post about the Wings' chances in the playoffs.

Here's a topic on the Plano Bicycle Association about him. It is very moving to read, and reinforces what a wonderful man he was.

Sorry for your loss. He sounds like a great guy whom meant a lot to you. It makes me wish brother and I were closer, but he has made the choice to live his life as a hermit, away from family and friends.

As for the laptop search, may I suggest NOT looking under the hidden files search? At least in my laptop that would be a very bad idea.....:D

The Plano Bike Association held a memorial bike ride for my brother this morning. It was very moving to see a ride that usually has 30 members swell to over 160 riders. They had a prayer and a moment of silence before they left. It was one of the most emotional experiences of my life.

Some pictures of the ride for anyone interested (i believe if you click on the picture you can view the slideshow without signing up for the website)

Below is the text composed by and read at the beginning of the memorial ride. I thought it was very touching so I'm going to post it here:

Dear Lord,

We give thanks from the fullness of our hearts for the life that we remember at this gathering.
Let the meaning of Mark’s life live on in us. Help us to remember in the days to come, the lessons we learned about life from him. Let us remember the wonderful and sincere attributes that people shared about him in our Forum, and help us to make those all a part of our own lives:
- His constant positive energy and enthusiasm
- His fierce determination
- His pure and genuine childlike innocence and honesty
- His pride and support in his fellow riders, and
- His endless love for family and friends

Lord, let us know today that when we feel the wind, it is just Mark’s chest puffing up with pride that so many of his friends came out to honor him. Let us always know that the sunshine is him smiling down on us. And when we feel unseasonably warm temperatures, or even hot, humid summer rides, that it is really the warmth from one of his giant bear hugs for us.

Most important, we pray, that Mark knows we’ll never do a M&M Ride without him.
In the Lord’s name we pray. Amen
