installing driver for new video card question

This may be a silly question but here goes. My new bfg 8500 gt just arrived from newegg. My current system had nvidia 6100 onboard graphics that I am replacing. Went to nvidia sight to d'load newest drivers before making the switch and found that the newest driver supports both chipsets. Here's the question from the technically challenged..

If I update the driver before disabling the 6100. Then disable the onboard 6100 and install the 8500 gt should I be good to go? Essentially plug and play since both cards use the same driver?

I would disable the 6100, install the new one and then update the driver for it.

It will probably work the way you described how you were going to do it, but I always unistall the old card (or disable if it's onboard), then install the new card, install the drivers that came with it (unless windows installs it automatically) then go and grab the latest drivers for that video card.
