I am officialy done with them.

They used to be ok now it really is unlistenable.

It is 4 minutes of updates, 4 minutes of commercials and 12 minutes of talk, 80% of it schtick, every 20 minutes.

The schtick is the worst part and their stupid songs have finaly put me over the edge. I don't need hard core sports talk all the time but if I want bad comedy I'll watch full house.

I think it was a string of ridiculous contests (and the bits that promoted them) that put me in can't-listen-anymore category.

I use to listen to them a lot but like you I am sick of them...my reasoning..

- They refuse to talk about hockey unless it is to tarnish the sport.

- They rehash the same debates every hour or hour and a half.

- The continually talk about baseball, even though there is nothing going on in the offseason. It is almost like they make up stuff just to talk about the sport instead of talking about what is going on in other sports.

- Golic's love for everything Notre Dame is annoying. Plus I have a hard time listening to him debate the steroid issue when he admittedly took them as a pro player.

- Greenie is s pussy and his metro-sexual attitude gets old. He's one of those kids who never played a sport in his life, yet will tell you how to go about playing it and do it in a manner where he knows he is right.

- Commercials...commercials...and more commercials...

I am so glad that Tony Kornheiser is on XM as well as Dan Patrick. I enjoy listening to them both.

I listened to them every day on XM until I decided that paying for XM just for sports radio was a little silly.

Now, I listen to Steve Czaban and I like it much better. There's not much gimmick with him.

I was here two years ago. We have solid local guys here and I often use the morning to catchup on podcasts I may have missed.

Funny, I listen to Mike and Mike (last 15-20 minutes), and Colin Cowherd (15 or so minutes) on my way in. I think it's funny as hell. Maybe it's only something you can listen to in small doses.

I still listen to Mike and Mike, but it is not something that I really enjoy. My only other alternative in the mornings for sports is local WEEI and the duo they have on there in the mornings are even worse to listen to. (Dennis and Callahan).

I am bored with them, and usually tune out much of what Greenie says.

I started listening to Mike and Mike when I took a new job with an hour driving commute, this September. It's rough, and I can't wait until I get something that lets me play my ipod in the car.

I haven't found a fox sports station in Boston, is there one? The closest I can get is from Springfield, MA and that is way too far west for me to get... I don't think that is an option...

AM 1300 WVET in Austin (or at least in the market, no idea where it's physically located) appears to be a partial FSR affiliate but only carrying JT the Brick weeknights at 10pm.

They also pick up Jim Rome in the afternoons, as do many of the FSR affiliates but he's not actually part of their lineup, they just share the same syndicator (Premiere Radio Network).

Sirius put me over the top with regular radio not long after. Satellite radio is how it should be done. Too bad it will probably be ruined in about 5-10 years, but I enjoy it while it's great.

If you agree with me, then why the hell have you been listening to Mike and MIke?!?

I have Sirius, but XM has to have their own in-house sport shows to listen to don't they? They still have commercials, but it's usually way less I'm betting.

I usualy put MnM on ESPN2 in the morning when I get up. I used to like it for the background noise and now I can't even stand it as that

I still flip back and forth between Czaban and M&M during my commute, but they both can be pretty hard to listen to. I'm slowly drifting back to the hard news station and NPR.

Yeah...on more than 1 occassion I've had MnM on and between their SC updates, commercials, etc. I've actually forgotten that I was tuned to them and thought, "Hmm...this is boring, wonder what MnM are talking about"

... but XM has to have their own in-house sport shows to listen to don't they?

I'm sure one of the XM'ers can correct me if I'm wrong but there's not a lot they air weekdays that would really be considered "in-house", since they run both Kornheiser's show and Dan Patrick's show.

Download the podcast instead. A 20 minute show with all the nonsense cut out. Kornheiser is also back from MNF with a daily 1 hour podcast.

Assuming Mr Tony is back with Washington Post radio, you can download the podcast of his show by evening of the day of broadcast - cuts out the commercials, weather, etc - pretty good stuff. Pretty sure the podcasts are available from both Washington Post Radio's site as well as ITunes...

Oddly enough, over the last year, I ended up phasing out Mike and Mike almost completely.

I get about 5 minutes of them in the morning, now, as I turn the tv to ESPN2 when my alarm first goes off at 6 a.m., catch some of the news highlights right before the show starts, zone in and out for the next 20 minutes, spent mostly asleep, then I wake up for real in the 2nd set of highlights and shut them off when I leave my bedroom to make coffee.

For me, they've turned into every other radio show: not funny & not interesting. I fully admit I don't like most talk radio, but now if I'm listening to something "talky" on my way in, it's either a book on my iPod or ESPNews on the satellite radio.

Steve Czaban, people. Make the jump.

While better than Mike and Mike, he's not that much better. I don't drive in everyday, only days my wife and i both work and I drop the kids off on my way. I usually flip back and forth to just hear the 'news' portions-- i just want to hear the scores and some news I might have not heard the night before.

Czaban might not be as moronic as MnM, but he comes across as preachy to me. Where, if he said something last week that came true, he'll bring it up every 2 minutes. The other 95% of crap he said that he was nowhere close, will never be discussed.

While getting ready, I tune to ESPNNews...on mute.

Really? That is a little surprising to me since Sirius has a full channel of in-house stuff. I figured XM would have the same. Sirius also has Scott Ferrall, but that is at night.

Coach K Show - Basketball and Beyond (weekly with Dave Sims)
XMSN Morning (daily, TJ Rives)
College Basketball Coast-To-Coast (daily, TJ Rives again)
Dialed In (daily, Claire B. Lang)
Powershift (weekly, Joe Costello)
NHL Hour (weekly, Gary Betteman and Bill Clement)
60/20 Sports (weekly, Luke Russert and James Carville)
Hustle (weekly, Eric Byrnes of the Diamondbacks)

Note: I didn't say it was *good* programming, just original. Basically it's Tony from 8-10 and then 22 hours of sucking ass.

As for the other non-original stuff, they also broadcast Tony Bruno's show, a few hours of Sporting News Radio in the early AM, and Troy Aikman's radio show (from Dallas I guess).

Figured this thread was as good a place as any ...

Tony Bruno is out at Sporting News Radio, official as of yesterday. Here's the letter that went out to affiliates:
January 27, 2008

Dear Sporting News Radio affiliate,

This morning we announced that Tony Bruno will depart Sporting News Radio when his contract expires in early April.

We will miss his unique talent and wit that entertained us all on a daily basis for the last three years. His last show was January 18th, and he will remain on staff working on a number of company initiatives until early April. We will begin a search for his successor immediately. In the meantime, other SNR hosts and special guests will anchor our west coast morning program until his replacement can be named.

We recognize that we are in business to provide your station with content that helps you create success in your local market, and we will be reaching out to you in the coming weeks to solicit your feedback and learn more about what you need to win. Rest assured that we remain committed to providing our affiliates and sponsors with unique content and innovative marketing programs across our entire sports media platform of Sporting News Radio, Sporting News Magazine, and Sportingnews.com.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of the people listed below if you have any questions.

Regards,

Clancy Woods
President

Isn't that kind of odd, to yank him off air immediately but keep him under wraps for a few months?

Sounds like an O&A situation if you ask me.

Isn't that kind of odd, to yank him off air immediately but keep him under wraps for a few months?

Didn't see any point in continuing to give him air time I guess, since they knew they had reached a contract impasse (rumors say he wanted a 50% raise, they were only offering 20% ... of course, no idea whether that's accurate but he does have a history of overvaluing himself apparently)

By not releasing him outright, it forces him to sit out the remainder of his existing contract instead of moving on to whatever he's hoping to do next.

dola - XM has been advertising Bruno pretty hard as part of the re-branded XM144 Sports Nation with he, Tony K, and Dan Patrick. I'd wager he ends up working for XM.

That's not going to pay shit if he works directly for XM. He'd have been better off taking the 20%.

I can only handle Mike and Mike if they have a good guest. Otherwise, I just get sick of the shtick. I get it, Greenberg is supposed to be a wimpy metrosexual, Golic is a fat slob tough guy. They just lay it on way too thick.

The sad thing is that Greenberg is actually a real knowledgeable guy and good on the air. He started locally in Chicago and I always liked him when he was on CLTV. ESPN is what made him bad and overly commercialized. They've turned him into a character.
