'Inside the NFL' Leaving HBO

"Inside the NFL" is ending its 31-year run on HBO.

Wednesday's season finale will be the studio show's last on the network, HBO announced earlier in the day.

"It has been a terrific franchise," HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg said in a release. "But the television landscape has changed quite a bit over the last 30 years and we have to recognize the realities of the business. I'm not sure we had more than one competitor when the show launched in 1977."

The decision does not mean the end for the program itself. It's owned by NFL Films, which is looking to continue the show in conjunction with another network in the fall.

The HBO finale will be re-aired through the rest of the week.

Hmmm... what network has to fill 24 hours a day of NFL programming... If only there were such a network...

What made 'Inside the NFL' so great in the beginning (besides Len and Nick) was that it was the only show to show you in-depth highlights of EVERY game. In the later years, they obviously didn't hold that distinction.

I usually watched the NFL Films highlights of games I cared about and the Peter King section, but I pretty much always skipped the rest of the commentary sections.

Funny years ago it was one of the main reason I received HBO. Have not had HBO in a couple of years now, so no Inside the NFL. With a Live NFL show on ESPN everynight and game being replayed on the NFL network; there is no reason for a taped weekly NFL show. That Live 3 hour Monday morning countdown QB show gives you more than enough highlights and game analysis.

I still recorded it and then had it going as a background show while I was on the computer.

I absolutely loved this while growing up and still have fond memories of watching it with my father. It was always very well done, but I think it's biggest selling point years ago was the fact that you simply couldn't get what they were presenting anywhere else. They had NFL films quality in-depth highlights of every single game... now you can get at least a standard highlight show anywhere. There's just too much competition for the distinction in quality to even matter anymore.

...and I never could get used to the new-school crew.
