I debated whether to post this here, but decided - what the hell.
After almost 10 years together, my fiance and I are finally getting married tomorrow.
It will be a small ceremony at the Wren Chapel at the College of William and Mary (300 year old building) with the officiant, me, my fiance, our parents, our brothers (we each have one), and their families.
Nice and small - but it is still a big moment in our lives - so it is exciting!

Congrats though.

Great news, congrats.
The small wedding is always a classy move - it's about you and her, that's it, not a big party.

Heh. I'll look for the guy camped in the bushes at each 2 hour interval of weddings to try and figure out which one has the smallest group ;).
Great news, congrats.

It took us a long time to come to this decision and certainly some family and friends don't understand, but I'm happy with it. We're looking to move out of our house and into a much better one and having the money we would have spent on a wedding for that instead is fantastic.

Oh man, am I going to have to dig up that YT clip? Are you more scared if you know that neither of us had a drop of liquor?
Congrats, attention whore ;)
seriously congrats!
I would have been disappointed if you didn't say that :).

The timing was bad for doing a bachelor party. I think lordscarlet is still going to plan something for down the road with me and "the guys" - but I think we'll be going to Atlantic City so I'll miss out on the joy of virgina pastiness.
But yeah - thanks everyone. As much as this place can drive you crazy sometimes, it's still like a 2nd family.

Great deal. Congratulations! Where are you going for your honeymoon? Some place special?Nowhere as of yet.
We were going to take a fantastic trip to the S. Pacific. However, we started to realize how badly we wanted to get out of our current house. It is 75 years old and the person that lived here before us didn't take care of it at all so there are TONS of cosmetic problsm. After about a year and a half into it (coming up on 4 years) we got sick of trying fo fix the tons of problems. So, we kind of resent our house to an extent.
Anyway. So we decided that instead of spending 5-6k on a honeymoon we'd rather have that towards fixing up this house to sell, downpayment, whatever.
So. We may take a small trip this summer. She is a teacher, so it's hard for her to get time off outside of the summer and Spring Break. We may be packing to move during Spring Break.

Sounds like a really good plan. If you guys have never been on a cruise, you can usually go for pretty cheap depending on what type of cabin you were looking for...and they're "all-inclusive".

I'm starting to get right there with you. I wish i would have spent 15-20k more(around here that goes a long way) and just bought something I didn't have to work on.
I'm tired of having to do stupid shit like replace outlets from 2 prong to 3 prong, etc. And the yard is still a clusterfuck.

I think there are only a couple of southern states where you can do that. And one of them would have to be female because you know how they are about same-sex marriages there ;)

So..
Wedding went well. It was nice and simple and went off without a hitch.
Maybe I'll post my first ever pictures on FOFC (granted LS has posted his pic before).

Belated congrats. I'm celebrating my 8th anniversary tomorrow (Yes, we got married on April Fools' Day). We actually dated for 6 years before that. I wanted the small wedding (her father offered us $20K to elope) and my wife wanted the big wedding. Shockingly, my wife won the battle. Either way, I married way above my head and it's the best thing I ever did.
Housing is super-cheap now. Getting a nice house right now is a great idea.

Wade, where in Williamsburg would you like to move?
There's not necessarily a specific area that we're targetting. There's a price range we're targetting (300k-350k) with certain wants (relatively new, at least 4 BR's, in at least a relatively nice neighberhood). We're willing to go as far west as Toano if not even a little further.
Based on that there are actually quite a few areas that would fit the bill - right now Point @ Jamestown, Jamestown 100, and Springhill seem to be some of the top candidates.

Exactly. This house really COULD be a gem, but I'm not willing to put the work to make it happen.
I like where I live, and I can easily afford it. But every month it's something. And I live in constant fear of having to replace a furnace or the AC. I don't have a garage, which I would like. There is definitely a ton of potential here, but I'm not at a point in my life where I can just drop 2-3 grand at a time to make some improvements. I think I've done a fairly good job of furnishing this, considering we owned no appliances and minor furniture when we moved in. Ah well, I'll make do.

Springhill and Point @ Jamestown are nice--I'm not familiar with Jamestown 100. You can still get some great deals out in Toano.
And you're going to need at least four bedrooms because ... you plan on having three rooms devoted entirely to FOF? :)
Happy house hunting!
