We've all probably heard the news reports of the pregnant "man," but why is "he" referred to as a "man" when "he" is actually a woman who had surgery to remove her breasts. "He" even still has a vagina!

I've wondered for a while why if someone decides one day they were born wrong and want to have surgery to "change" their sex that society is supposed to automatically accept this and change the pronoun used to refer to the person. The guy who wants to be a tiger and has had multiple surgeries to resemble one is seen as mentally ill, as I would be if I had a glass eye inserted into my forehead for cosmetic purposes. So how is it not mental illness if you choose to have your gender "changed?" It doesn't truly change who you are...

I hadn't heard about this specific person until I saw an ad for Oprah. Apparently s/he is going to be on Oprah. I only remember that because I thought it was like a Maury Povich or Jerry Springer ad, and then they showed Oprah and I was somewhat surprised.

I don't know if it's much of a surprise anymore. My wife watches Oprah on a semi-regular basis and Oprah seems to have taken a turn in the "Let's bring out the 'freaks' of society" direction. You must have missed the episode featuring the man who turned blue or the episode featuring couples who openly share marriage partners.

This statement would absolutely blow the mind of some guy who had been in a coma since the late 80's...

Yeah, I was reading some sites about this the other day, folks thinking it was a april fools joke. The whole thing is gross and this is self-serving silliness. Poor kid.

I haven't watched talk shows since law school, so I don't know who does what anymore. Is Ricki Lake still on?

Although I should have realized Oprah turned into a freakshow when she had Tom Cruise on.

This is "his" official status:

Beatie is a transsexual who has undergone reconstructive surgery and testosterone therapy and now considers herself to be a man. Because Beatie still has her reproductive organs she was able to be artificially inseminated once stopping bi-monthly testosterone treatments, she has said.

Beatie said, in a first person account in "The Advocate," that she is officially classified as a male and was allowed to legally marry her wife Nancy.

Gee, I hope he has some message for us about how we need to examine our nescient, parochial notions of gender and shit like that.

That will be Oprah's job.

as I would be if I had a glass eye inserted into my forehead for cosmetic purposes.

I wouldn't do it but I think it would be pretty cool to see assuming someone else did.

Come sit with a total stranger.
Now's the time to vent your anger
And oh...are you a boy or a girl?
Do you get off casting hexes.
Assuming forms of either sexes
And oh...are you a boy or a girl?
Well I've been confused by the startled look in your eyes.
Have I been misused hanging on by the skin of my teeth
While you're raping my mind?
Do you feel misunderstood?
You feel strange, but you knock on wood.
Are you a boy or a girl?
You come to grips with what you know
And boosted ratings for the daytime shows.
Now you're on top of the world.
I'm a fan so don't dismiss me.
America is armed and listening
And oh...are you a boy or a girl?
Well I've been confused by the startled look in your eyes.
Have I been misused falling head over heals for a star
While you feed me a line?
'Cause I feel misunderstood.
I feel strange but I'm not so sure.
Are you a boy or a girl?

I think I saw this on The Cosby Show. Next, he gives birth to a hoagie, then a 2-liter of orange soda.

+1 ....it's not a man, I wish they'd stop referring to her as one.
