Peter Moore in his latest blog announces that they will not be publishing Madden on the PC in 08 (and probably at any further point in the future.)
We knew that our decision to not develop this year’s Madden for the PC would be an unpopular decision in some circles. But I’ll reiterate what I said a couple of weeks ago in this space…the PC presents some very serious business challenges to us in the sports category, particularly because so many of you all are playing your favorite sports games on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. We are committed to shipping a limited number of our games on the PC this year, but we’ve also had to cut a few of our games from the platform. We do have ideas for how to revitalize the PC for sports games and the types of games that are best suited to the platform, and we’ll continue to explore those."

It's a real shame. It was the only version of Madden that doesn't have me quitting the game mid-way through the first quarter out of disgust.

Does this mean other companies are free to use the NFL license on the PC format?
I mean, we can't have some absentee monopoly.

Except for it's not a monopoly.

Right. An absentee exclusive rights bearing conglomerate.

This should have a Maximum impact on other PC football game publishers.

Fuck EA, they say they know certain games are best suited for a PC , then dont release HC 2009 for the PC. Thats the perfect game for a PC. Assholes.

I actually think they're doing PC gamers a service on that one.

Honestly, people probably pirate more copies of Madden than actually get bought anyway. Always amazes me how quickly that game ends up on torrent sites after it is released.
Still crappy news.. Madden on PC had a few redeeming qualities in it's customizability and the fact they could do a little bit more with the franchise mode. Also, in general I'm sure PC gamers were the ones that did most of the whining about the "realism" of the game. This is not good for those of us that ever wanted Madden to go in a more realistic direction. That and the damn exclusive license.

Let's be honest - this is likely a good business decision by EA even though we don't personally like it.

Well, if they actually developed versions of the games specifically for the PC, and not just lame ports from the console versions then there would be a reasonable market for EA Sports PC games. As it is, I'm surprised they haven't stopped releasing the PC ports sooner. EA Sports has had a half-hearted approach to developing PC versions of their games for years.
