Supposedly a rumored fight for later this year. I have a couple of friends who say that Slice would kick the crap out of Tyson in an MMA style fight but I'm not so sure of that. It seems to me that even a 40 some Mike Tyson would crush any MMA fighter on the sheer power of the hit

Right but can Mike Tyson hit him with anything?

No idea who this Kimbo Slice guy is but if he can move at all he's looking good.

I hope Mike stays away, but I also realize he needs the money.

I think Mike Tyson's ground game would suck ass. But isn't Kimbo known for punch power too? So this would basically be a street fight. I don't know much about Kimbo other than the youtube videos, but he looks like a crazy guy with power. Tyson in his prime would kill him, but now I'm not so sure.

Kimbo is a monster -- I've seen his actual professional MMA appearances, and he has dismantled the competition.

I don't think there's any way the current Iron Mike could withstand him. Granted, Kimbo isn't a young man either; but he's got that edge to him that Mike lost long ago.

Mike has packed on the pounds recently. Here is a recent pic of him with a big ole badonkadonk.

Yeah but take a look at the guys he dismantled. One guy was like 46 years old and the other guy was basically well past his prime as well and very one dimensional. If Kimbo fought a bonafide MMA fighter at this point in his career he would get eaten alive.

I agree, but that's just the natural SOP for introducing what UFC hopes will be the next big draw. I'm not suggesting that Kimbo could roll with the established big dogs of MMA right now, I'm just suggesting that it is not his fault they threw him a couple lesser fighters to introduce him to the world.

I'm also suggesting that he could dismantle Tyson. For the 2008 edition of Mike, based on interviews I've seen / read lately, it would be all about the paycheck. IMHO, he wouldnt have the passion, desire, or discipline to get himself where he would need to be mentally and physically to really challenge Kimbo.

And I grew up in awe of Tyson, so I dont take him lightly at all.

I think we should put OJ Simpson and Mike Tyson in a prison cell together. The person that comes out alive doesn't have to stay in jail.

I've got to say though, from a marketing standpoint, this is smart. It's a high profile match from a publicity standpoint and yet doesn't really put Kimbo in much danger. I think they need to pimp him while they can because he'll never be able to hang with your better than average MMA fighters, IMHO.

Just to clarify, Slice has no connections to the UFC at all. He's the posterboy of EliteXC and is an MMA rookie. They obviously have to feed him cans for a while, otherwise they're shooting down their main chance at a big payday.

Slice vs. Tyson would be such a freakshow fight that it wouldn't even be insulting, it'd be awesome. I'd watch it. There is no way it wouldn't be a terrible fight, but it'd good for a laugh.

I had no idea Tyson was that out of shape.

I wouldn't hold my breathe on it happening. I see it going down much the same way as Mike's move to K-1.

I agree with you on Tyson. At least Kimbo is training and there is no evidence that Tyson is lifting anything other than cheeseburgers.

Tyson would get demolished. Jeremy Schapp did an interview a few Sundays back on him and Tyson looked like a shell of his former self.

How do you make Kimbo Slice and his lack of a ground attack/defense interesting? Why, you pair him with someone even worse.

A motivated Tyson vs Slice would be interesting. But a brankrupt, fat, cashing-a-paycheck Tyson will get killed.

Dude can't play on the ground, can't/won't grapple standing or on the ground, and in my limited exposure I don't think I've ever seen him even throw a kick. That said, he does seem to be carrying around a couple very heavy hands.

Like I said, I have limited exposure to the dude beyond his youtube clips, but all of the above begs the question why isn't he boxing rather than fighting MMA? He doesn't sound like an effective MMA fighter at all (despite beating on a 90 year old Tank Abbot). Is "Because he sucks" too obvious an answer?

Tyson coudn't beat anyone right now. He was getting booed in his touring exhibition matches. His career is over, and if Elite XC even thinks that they could pass this off as an MMA fight they have another thing coming.

Slice is being hyped because of the aura around him, but he is also training a ton. Still, the guy shouldn't be headlining a MMA show either. He is going to look good because of who they throw in front of him, but a good MMA fighter would dismantle him. He is old and green at the same time.

Please Mike, stay the hell away.

Both of these guys were featured on ESPN's E:60 (kinda like a sports version of 60 Minutes... and by the way a good show) a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't believe how "sedated" Tyson looked. He certainly seemed to be a shell of his former self. There was not a flicker of the spark he used to have. On the other hand, Kimbo looks to be a monster, but I'm not so sure he has the discipline for a major fight. Some of the other MMA fighters appeared to be jealous of the attention Kimbo was receiving.

Anyway, I don't think I would plunk down money (ie- pay-per-view) to watch this fight. If they were showing it on cable, I probably would tune in.

Most of the you tube videos are of "Slice" the street fighter. Since those times he's actually cleaned up and taken MMA seriously. The fact that he trains with Bas Rutten (a legend in the sport) suggests that Kimbo posseses at least rudimentary skills in kicking, muy thai clinch, and some basic ground game. I have no doubt Kimbo would take down Mike and submit him most likely via Guilotine or RNC in less than 90 seconds. As for why he's in MMA instead of boxing ... well he's headlining a live CBS MMA show which will bring him much more exposure than he would have ever gotten by being mediocre Boxer. Good business if you ask me.

Having said that, Kimbo is way overhyped due to his youtube persona ... and if he fought any one of the top 20 HW MMA fighters he would be destroyed.

First off, my bad on saying "UFC" earlier.

Why not boxing?
The average fan doesn't give a shit about boxing anymore. I used to love boxing back when there were some great fighters to watch [mid-80s through early 90s] but I find MMA much more compelling now.

Kimbo is training his ass off in the ways of MMA. He'd probably get dismantled by a veteran MMA guy; but, hell, what brand new fighter wouldn't get dismantled by a top-20 MMA fighter?

It's win-win. Kimbo is earning some nice scratch, and MMA is generating some nice buzz.
