Sid could only wish he could pull ass like Richards can. Plus there is a bigger pool of women for Richards too. You have the Philly girls and the NJ sluts. Here you just have yinzers.
Isn't being the best looking girl in Philly like being the tallest midget? Outside that group, does it mean a whole lot

Captain Pavel "Chekov" Kubina?
http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Hockey/2008/08/07/6373196-sun.html
Leafs looking to Kubina
By LANCE HORNBY, SUN MEDIA
Not only is Pavel Kubina unlikely to be traded, but Cliff Fletcher is talking him up as a possible captain if Mats Sundin departs.
With an Aug. 15 window to shop Kubina rapidly closing, the Maple Leafs' general manager yesterday listed the chance of dealing the $5-million US defenceman as "less than 50%."
"Any trade involving Pavel would have to be very advantageous for the Leafs," Fletcher said. "I thought he played well last season (after an awful start to Kubina's four-year $20-million deal) and I know (new coach) Ron Wilson liked him a lot. Plus, it's very quiet right now for trades."
Wilson was in favour of a deadline deal last February to send Kubina to his San Jose Sharks, which the defenceman vetoed with his no-trade clause, much to Fletcher's chagrin.
When the Leafs missed the playoffs, a clause in Kubina's contract gave them from June 20 to Aug. 15 for a trade. But though teams such as the Los Angeles Kings are looking for veterans on defence, the Leafs now need Kubina on a green blueline if veteran Bryan McCabe isn't returning.
"He could be a serious candidate to be our captain," said Fletcher, who could be without Sundin and two of three alternates in McCabe and the traded Darcy Tucker. "It's Aug. 6 and we have to start thinking about these things."
Tomas Kaberle is the lone remaining alternate captain.
"He is among a number of candidates, but I don't expect it will be decided until the end of training camp," Fletcher said. "And if Mats is gone, it's possible we might rotate it (month-to-month as teams such as Minnesota do)."
As far as the McCabe stalemate is concerned, there is a growing feeling that he will agree to be moved somewhere in the autumn, rather than report to camp and cause a stir.

The one and only. Wendel Clark often gets recognized as just that, and with the new shape of the game and the way he played he may have just been the last player we can truly describe that way.
Wendel Clark had a shortened career mainly because of the style of play cause injuries that even he could not play through. Wendel was not the biggest guy, the strongest player but he played every game like he was.
During his career Wendel played taller and heavier then he actually was and that took a toll on his body, he did everything in his power to protect his teammates and anything for his team to win, if he had to score a hat-trick he would, if he had to fight Bob Probert he would, if he had to take on a much bigger Marty McSorley who just dropped Doug Gilmour with an elbow he would and he would do it very well.
There has not been many players in the history of the NHL who could do this on a night to night basis and there has been even fewer who could do it that actually would do it
Sure that style of hockey probably cost him many games lost due to injury and it probably cut his career short by a few years but I am sure if he could change anything he would not change a thing.
When he is honored by the Maple Leafs this season everyone can sit there and be proud of him for giving everything he ever had for the Maple Leafs and making all hockey fans proud of playing the game hard.
I invite you all to take a look at this video clip of Wendel Clark playing hockey the Wendel Clark way.

Apparently our long national nightmare is over, and Bryan McCabe has agreed to be traded once the Leafs pay his roster bonus on Sept. 1.
After refusing to even consider a trade last season, he was finally persuaded to accept an opportunity to go play for... the Panthers?
Hm. Guess being near nice golf courses is more important than winning, or being near family, or pretty much anything else.

TRADE
Tampa gets:
Meszaros
Ottawa gets:
Kuba
A Picard
2009 1st (SJ's from the Dan Boyle deal)
I have to say edge Sens- Meszaros is the best player in that deal, but probably isn't more than a 2nd pairing D. He's been pretty awful in his own zone the past 2 seasons. Still young and the potential is there, but he's at best a #3 guy IMO.
Sens get a guy to fill his spot this season (Kuba) and potentially in the future (Picard), grab a 1st round pick, and get rid of Meszaros and his crazy contract demands.
I was shocked when i heard this deal......Mesaros for a 1st would even be a stretch in my books.

And Meszaros could easily turn into a legit top pair guy, he's only 22. But, on the current group of D, him, Matt Carle and Paul Ranger are the top 3. OUCH!

Carolina presented their new alternate uniforms today, though the design has generally been guessed at for a while now. Basically, the shoulder logo (storm-flag-on-a-stick) and primary logo are trading places. The design is also mostly black with only the name and numbers in white with red trim and the red and black pattern on the shirttail changed to black and gray. There will also be a red/gray strip on the sleeve and the lower leg.

If it is the same as last year, only about 20 ticket holders got a visitor, and it was by those pretty much assured of making the team.
And around here, some of the "scrubs" are more loved then some of the skill guys. If people got to pick, I would not be surprised if, after Crosby and Malkin, the 3rd choice would be Max Talbot. Ahead of Fleruy, ahead of Gonchar, ahead of Staal. He might even challenge Malkin for 2nd.

At least it's not waving a white flag.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I figured they'd send some AHL scrub you never heard of. Are you a full season ticket holder?
I don't have season tickets. It was my buddy and he has a half a season ticket plan.

Here's an article on TSN on the guys they sent out.

Joining Crosby in knocking on front doors were Marc-Andre Fleury, Jordan Staal, Sergei Gonchar, Brooks Orpik, Maxime Talbot, Tyler Kennedy, Pascal Dupuis and Jeff Taffe.
The Pens tape all of these and put them on their website. Last year Talbot delivered tickets to an older lady and she kept calling him Malone. I think this is a great thing the Pens do for their fans. The Pens as a whole, minus the whole almost moving bit, treat their fans really well.

Chicks dig Talbot. A lot of girls I know are head over heels in love with the guy. If Colby was still on the team you could say the same for him. He was really popular.

Yep, that is the same article from the PG today. How did they end up with Taffe? He wasn't even signed until a few weeks ago.
Everyone loves Talbot. Some of the TV timeout stuff they show on the Jumbotron with him is hilarious.
And Colby is a UFA after this season. Is there any doubt he'll be back?
Of course, Rico Fata started out really popular here too.

My friend got Leafs season tickets and they were delivered by Tie Domi.
It wasn't a promotional thing, he's just doing part-time work as a bike courier these days.

Alternate jerseys are ok, but I think teams need to take it a step further. I think teams should start having alternate nicknames, so for like 5 games a year the NY Rangers become the NY Tropics with jerseys and other promo items to match.

I'm hoping they follow the MLB and NBA's lead and put "Los" before the nicknames. Los Wild vs. Los Jackets Azules? YES!!!!!!!

I guess not official yet, the NHL rejected the contract due to no-trade clause wording.

Meh, it was basically a technicality. Essentially, they had wording that specifically identified the no-trade clause as kicking in on a specific date, but there wasn't a guarantee that he would legally be eligible for unrestricted free agency on that date (though I assume that's by "years of service" even though he'd still be under contract then). Shouldn't pose a problem as they'll drop the specific date and just tie it to his free agency status.
