You make the call: Braveheart vs. Gladiator

I've always thought that one of these movies was fantastic, the other a piece of crap that couldn't hold the other's jock. Which one do you think is better?

I chose Gladiator, but, really, it's very close. I can watch either of these any time (and usually do, when I find them on TV).

Gladiator was too 'pretty' in my opinion. Not a bad movie, but, just too 'pretty'. So my vote goes for Bravehart since it's less 'pretty'.

Gladiator was fantastic, if you pay attention to the character. I loved the Maximus character. Reminds me a lot of Belisarius/Raj from the various David Drake novels spun off that same basic storyline.

I've watched Braveheart once, and it was okay, but mostly pretty "meh".

Gladiator wanted to be Braveheart, but wasn't. I haven't watched Braveheart in a while and fear the Gibson craziness would taint it, but it's stil la much better movie.

Despite the fact I think Gladiator is a pretty awful movie, whenever Maximus asks the question: "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?" I always have to respond, "Yeah, I kind of am."

On a totally random side note, for about 2 or 3 years, the Colts opening before player introductions was the play the battle chant portion of Braveheart to get the crowd pumped up. My dad would always make the comment that they eventually lost. This season the Colts replaced it with the 300...another group that eventually lost. :D

They really aren't comparible directly. braveheart is about a man that started a revolution and a group of menthat follwed him. Gladiator is about a single man and his path to revenge.

Neither movie is true to history enough to be called historicaly accurate, neither movie is realistic enough to say it gives you a real feel for the time period.

They're both just entertainment and if I have to choose between them i choose Gladiator because Russel Crowe would beat the living shit out of Mel Gibson even after a 3 week bender.

then again i'm biased because my ancestor on my father's side was one of wallace's chief lieutenants:

I still enjoy watching Braveheart even though I have a very hard time differentiating Mel the very talented actor/director from Mel the irretrievable anti-Semite.

I still do not understand the allure of Gladiator. To many it is one of the greatest films ever. To me, it has so many plot holes and other assorted screwups that it is virtually unwatchable.

I loved Gladiator the first time around but the dialogue hasn't help up on re-watch. It's a tad cringe-worthy.

I think Braveheart does a much better job of giving you a feel for the overall battle, whereas in Gladiator, it seemed like just cutting between short battle scenes that were not connected. Shot A: Man get decapitated; Shot B: Man gets stabbed through the chest; Shot C: Man gets spear in back.

Braveheart is getting 73% of the actual votes. Case closed. Gladiator loses. :)

i think braveheart is a bad movie

mel gibsons character was ridiculous. usually when men write for women, they write "the perfect woman". the writer, who incidentally is a descendant of wallace's, did that for the wallace character. made him a man who is just ridiculously good at everything. hes the smartest, best warrior, and sleeps with every single woman he meets in the film.

also, he is incredibly old to be playing that part.

gladiator i didnt like in the theater, but its been slowly gaining on me. id pick that over braveheart.
