Patrick, Olbermann reunite on NBC's NFL pre-gamer

New York — Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann are reuniting on television on NBC's Sunday night NFL coverage.
The network announced Monday that it had hired Patrick, hoping the recapture the chemistry that hooked viewers to ESPN's "SportsCenter" during the pair's run from 1992-97.

"It was seamless. We never tried to understand why it worked," Patrick said on a conference call. "It just did."
Patrick joins the returning cast of NBC's studio show that includes Olbermann and host Bob Costas. Patrick said the idea originated in casual conversations with Costas, some of whose highlight duties he will take.
Patrick's discussions with NBC initially took place last summer. But his then-employer, ESPN, invoked a clause in Patrick's contract and barred him from covering the NFL or Olympics on TV for a year, said NBC Sports chief Dick Ebersol.
Since leaving ESPN in August, Patrick has hosted a radio show and written for Sports Illustrated.
Patrick will work Super Bowls that NBC broadcasts and will participate in the network's Olympic coverage starting with the Winter Games in 2010.
Olbermann recalled that their old SportsCenter shows were an "attempt by him to crack me up or by me to crack him up."
"As long as we kept that undercurrent going," Olbermann said, "we knew it would be entertaining for the audience."

Well, this might be interesting. Keith, Dan and Bob. Strange trio.

Is there a studio big enough for those egos?

So, now this show will be even less about the actual games and more about the "witty" banter among all the hosts. Man, I miss "Primetime."

Oh well, it's not like I ever really watched "Football Night In America" anyway.

I thought Primetime was always pretty much a Chris Berman ego-stroking exercise. It became less and less about the games as time wore on, and more and more about nicknames, meaningless platitudes, and Tom Jackson nattering away for 10 minutes a show.

I love Dan Patrick, and it will be great to see him back with K.O....but does anyone even watch Football Night In America? I mean...seriously.

Giving Olbermann his old buddy Dan Patrick back is just another reason for Olbermann to think he's the pregame show. Sorry, I'm still not watching and won't be watching till Olbermann leaves.

I would think they would almost have to put them in an outdoor studio, probably enough wide open space for their egos to free range if you combined both Dakota's, Montana, and the northern half of Wyoming.

Wow, I think I am the only person who is actually excited about this. I really enjoyed SportsCenter in the Patrick/Olbermann days.

I sure hope not. They show about 1-2 plays for each game and that's it. Then they throw it over to Collinsworth, Bus, and Tiki and nobody cares what those guys have to say. I watch The Blitz even though Berman gets a little old sometimes, at least they show more plays and they have cool music.

Will Tiki Barber continue to appear on the show contributing his only two demonstrable skills outside running a football, which are backing over former teammates with a bus and dressing flamboyantly gay?

Looks like more crap I won't watch. Olbermann is a complete putz with an ego the size of Texas, and Dan Patrick was never as good as he thought he was. Costas I can take or leave.

Now all they need is Dennis Miller for the complete package.

Don't forget to add Michael Irvin and The Big Tuna.
