Let's say you had some money. And you want to get the 20 or so best and most popular titles for the Wii, PS3, and XBOX-360, with the proviso that nothing can be rated M, or be overly violent even if rated T. What games would you get?

Sounds like I would be in for a pretty lame collection.

Hey BK, this is simply off the top of my head:
Wii- Mariokart, Mariogalaxy, WiiSports, EA Playground, Powerpros baseball, Guitar Hero, Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones, Wii Fit, Super Mario Brothers download
360- NCAA Football, Burnout, Oblivion (I don't believe it is overly violent), Rock Band, Civilization Revolution
PS3- MLB The Show, Gran Turismo
Somewhere I've got to work in a basketball and soccer game but haven't played too many lately. It's a bit sports heavy, sorry. That's only 17 but I hope it helps.

Just looking on metacritic some of the top rated games for each system except for those rated M:
Wii:
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Mario Kart Wii
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
MLB Power Pros
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Zack and Wiki
Boom Blox
Okami
Super Paper Mario
PS3 or 360:
Rock Band
Guitar Hero III
Virtua Fighter 5
NHL 08
UEFA Euro 2008
GRiD
Burnout Paradise
skate
NBA 2k8
College Hoops 2k8
360:
Forza Motorsports 2
Viva Pinata
Ace Combat 6
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
(man going through 360 games I was surprised how many were rated M)
PS3:
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
Uncharted
Ratchet and Clank Future
MLB 08: The Show
Motorstorm
Hot Shots Golf 5
Some of those should work, a lot of variety there in addition to fulfilling your criteria.

Some library.
You might want to include Lysol as well.

What is the plan? Keep all those fun, new games locked behind a glass cabinet and tell the kids that if they wanna play they better start reading some books?

No, more like "Here are some video games for you to check-out". Video games are going to be the new movies.

I'll vouch for UEFA Euro 2008. It is a really awesome soccer game.

I would think you'd get a ton more bang for your buck with previous generation games. All three systems having some level of reverse compatibility and you can get all but the hugely collectable games for those systems for $20 or less, especially if you shop around and wait for deals. You could easily get 40 of the 50 best games from each system for last gen for what it would cost to get 10 current gen games.

While that might be true it's sort of like saying libraries should purchase older used books cause they'll get more bang for the buck. We'd rather buy stuff that people might still want to play in 3 years.

For those that have this, do you have issues with the text size on the screen? I fired it up on our plain old 27" non-HD TV for the first time last night and the menus and text is so freaking small i can't even begin to make out what things are trying to say. After getting about 6-8 inches away from the TV I found the options menu and there are of course no options to change the text size. Honestly I don't know if I could read it on a 50" HDTV its so bad.
Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

I don't have this problem with UEFA, but I do have it with the phone in GTA4.

I would also include Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)

This sounds dangerous. I bet those discs are scratched to hell and back within a month.

We don't anticipate them becoming any more scratched than the DVDs or CD-ROMs we currently circulate.
