grrr, came home from work today and the computer wouldn't connect to the internet. Called my ISP and luckily got the line within 5 minutes. Try this, try that, the guy said he was able to contact my modem but I couldn't even ping my connection on my end.

Turns out that a patch installed by windows update this morning, update KB951748, is causing Zone Alarm to fail any connection or something to that effect. Simply google KB951748 to read about it.

Anyway, after about 45 minutes of looking around and trying stuff, the technician finally told me to go to "add/remove software" and remove that update and voila, it worked!

Anyway, simply putting it out there if anybody runs into connectivity problems and read this from another computer or something... :)

Dammit. I just had that happen yesterday, too, and was going to start a thread about it. Nothing like Microsoft trying to shut down a little competition. I mean they've never done this before.

happened with us, too. i knew it was not the network since my laptop could still access but the roommate's desktop could not. but called charter's tech support anyway and they knew right away what the problem was. apparently, they had been running into this all day.

That's how I knew. My computer counldn't access it but my wife's was fine so there's no way it was the router since she was on wireless and I'm plugged into the back of it.
