Wow.. after following this for the last few weeks, InBev finally makes an offer AB shareholders could not refuse.

I wonder how many jobs people will lose here in St. Louis?

apparently part of the ease in negotiations or agreement was that they stated that they would keep ST. Louis as their N. American HQ and the Budweiser brand would be adopted as the flagship for Inbev's company. Gotta love that weak dollar (which should get weaker after the fed bails out some companys in tthe next few weeks [contraflasch])

hadta say that with the way inbev kept upping their offer you had to pretty much see this coming though. sad.

Damn. A friend of mine retired from AB and he told me that many of the retirees are concerned for their pensions and medical coverage if this sale went through.

pretty sure that they can't default on the outstanding pension liabilities.

Even if that is the case, InBev paid roughly 4 billion dollars more than they planned. That money has to be made up somewhere. They may be planning to keep an HQ here in St. Louis, but it seems highly unlikely it will be anywhere near the scale that it currently is.

You say this due to what their opening offer was?

Agreed.

I wonder what will happen to all the charities and local support AB grants money to?

A few years ago Anheuser-Busch bought out Rolling Rock and moved them out of Latrobe, PA. It cost a lot of people in that town their jobs and the town almost went under. I'm sure St. Louis will survive a bit better than Latrobe.

Like I said a couple posts up...Miller was bought by SAB and Coors is part of Molson now. Which means our three most prominent American beers are owned by Belgium, Canada, and South Africa. Maybe this leads to us finally invading Canada to take our shit back?

While that would be great, I'm sure 99.9% of the beer-drinking population have no idea that their Miller and Coors beers have been made by someone else because it tastes no different.

Boston Beer Company says wiki.

Correction - Pabst is actually now the largest American owned "brewing company", though they don't actually own a brewery.

At least they make good beer unlike the companies we've offloaded on the furriners! MWAHAHA!

Although I hate to see a great American institution such as A-B get taken over by a foreign company this may be a new boon for our craft beer industry which is already doing great.

It's amazing how much the beer landscape has changed in the last 10-20 years. We really are in a golden age of beer.

God is, by most definitions, perfect. But sometimes I think that God erred when he gave man the apostrophe. Clearly we have yet to manage, or even begin to understand, its awesome power.

No shit. Belgians don't much right. At all. They can't even govern themselves. But they excel at making beer, waffles, and frites. Pretty good at the whole chocolate thing too.

There's a pretty steep decline after those things...

"Man Bites Dog" is a pretty nifty Belgian movie. It's in foreign and it's got subtitles, but it's pretty good.

Hercule Poirot was Belgian too, so they're good at fictional detectives too. And cyclists.
