I know these type of things aren't serious, but the announcing is extremely annoying. Josh Hamilton's hitting 550 foot monster blasts, and the 'announcers' aren't even talking about what's going on...

Honestly, if Hamilton stayed on the straight and narrow, I have no doubt in my mind he'd be considered the best player in baseball right now.

They should just end it now. Let him just hit 'em all night.

He was just messing around after like 8. He was joking around with people, didn't even care about getting in a rhythm. He hit even getting interrupted and everything.

Easily one of the most memorable sports performances I've ever seen and it had nothing to do with a game situation.
Amazing.

Damn, this wasn't even on my radar to watch - sounds like Larry Bird in the 3-point contest back in the day. And following up on the very entertaining NBA All-Star weekend this year - maybe we don't need the games anymore.

Great announcing...Berman first telling us that this great event is "not quite" like the World Series victories to these Yankee fans, and Morgan telling us that Hamilton told his pitcher to take some off it, which was a great idea, when we heard him tell the old man to throw the gold ball.

Yeah, you'd think for all the money State Farm pumped into the event, they'd make sure the guy got the name right.

I've been a fan of Josh Hamilton ever since I met him in the minors two years ago. It was one of his first games back and I had to go into the visiting clubhouse. He was traveling with Rick Vaughn, the Rays VP of Communications, at the time because it was such a national story. I was doing my best to avoid Hamilton until he walked right up to me, introduced himself, and we started talking. The guy is 6'4" and absolutely an intimidating presence but he was so soft spoken and upbeat it caught me off-guard. I have always rooted for him since that day and am happy for him tonight.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've watched a sporting event (any competitive or not) and got chills.
Watching Hamilton hit in the first round did it. One of the more amazing things I've ever seen. I hope he stays on the straight and narrow and we get to see him in these for years to come. What a show.

While Morneau's win was classic Twins (workmanlike, unnoticed, overshadowed), might this lead to some sort of scoring change in the derby? I mean, it's just silly that Hamilton didn't win this thing. I don't know exactly what they should do, but it seems like starting from scratch in the finals is anti-climactic since everyone's worn out by then.
Maybe the thing ought to just be a one-round affair. Does it really need to go on for three hours? You might sacrifice a smidgen of drama, but once you're into the third hour everybody's tired of the whole thing anyway. You know... homers. We get it.

Shhhh...don't tell Schmidty I snuck in here, but I have to say that the derby was just freaking awesome tonight. He had taped it and I got caught up on it after work when I heard about Hamilton. What a story that guy has to tell and with the way he hit tonight, folks will listen. Just awesome...

Yes. He was out of baseball for awhile with a severe drug addiction. The fact that he's even playing baseball and sober at this point is pretty amazing.
