First round soon completed with hardly any players under par. Tiger or no Tiger, I love to see the world’s top player’s play links golf once a year.
Fun to watch the “The great whit shark” playing good golf again.

What's not to love about it? Tiger's pool cleaner's on top and Greg Evert-Norman is one shot off the pace. I was getting giddy this morning when Mark O'Meara was only one shot back. Good grief, even Tom Watson's only five shots back.
I was looking at the bottom of the leaderboard after I heard about Hefty's 79 ... when exactly did Vijay Singh and Ernie Els fall of the face of the planet? There are two guys -- especially Singh -- there were nipping at Tiger's heels for a while and now are shooting what John Daly shoots. Els has missed half the cuts this year, and Singh is plodding along but no where near the No. 2 world rank pace he was at for a while.

Fat Vinjay was better.
I love how everyone clamors for "someone other day Tiger". That's complete garbage. Without him it just a snorefest.
What did Sergio shoot? Love all the false hope every year for him. I doubt he ever wins a major.
Pickelson, lol.

Vijay is getting up there in age and he plays like 100 tournaments a year. The Big Easy hasn't been Duvalian in his drop off the planet, but...he has stopped playing top caliber golf for a while.

Great to see fellow lefty/Canadian Mike Weir two shots off the pace and I also like to see Goosen up there.

One of my very favorite sports player of all time is Greg Norman and it makes me very happy to see him on top of the leaderboard. He'll actually be here for the Senior Open in a few weeks but I'll be on vacation. Word around town is that a lot of fans intend to see just follow him on the course, and this was before this weekend.

John Daly shot an 89 today...which included a 49 on the back. I think I could've shot lower than a 49 on the back.

Actually I think I could...and before ask Sergio finished at +5.
Mickelson made the cut at +7, Rocco is +2 and so is Duval.

I highly doubt it unless you are going to tell me you are at least a scratch golfer.
Nevermind the fact you've never played the course or a pga event. much less a major.
Probably never played real links golf either.
I doubt I could shoot a 49. Granted I'm like a 14 handicap but still. That's like mid 80s at the crappy local courses, nevermind a majors setup.

Not a scratch but a 5-6 handicap. I think I could muster a +12 on 9 holes, the back is a par 37.

I want Norman to win or at least finish in the Top 3 so he goes back to Augusta next year. Norman was a great golfer in his prime and it is sad that he's only remembered for the times he collapsed. This would make everyone forget about those collapses.

Yeah, I read this yesterday. I felt terrible for her. But I seriously think her caddies have it out for her, because she must be awful to them. I have no idea how else he'd let her forget to sign her scorecard. What's worse is, they tracked her down to sign it after the fact and she said "I thought that would be okay."

It was pretty good when Judy Rankin was interviewing him and asked him if was going to play more since he had regained his form and he said no and laughed it off. Then she told him he had just played his way into The Masters next year. He said he didn't realize that and had a big smile on his face.

No offence to all these Norman supporters out there, but why didn't anyone talk about HGH testing for Norman. As I was hearing reporters talk about how healthy Norman was looking and how big and strong he was; I was wondering why no reporters were asking the obvious question?
I can;t be the only one thinking Human Growth Hormone here.
An older all star comes back from out of no where bigger and stronger than he has been in the past 10 years and no one is thinking Steroids???

The thought never crossed my mind tbh - did you think the same when Fred Funk won at Sawgrass last year?
Norman always used to be a big hitter, and has always been a big lad, but the reason he was at the top of the leaderboard all week was because he made no end of putts that others were missing. He made a couple of extra mistakes on the Sunday when the pressure was on (I don't think he begain to think about winning until Saturday night) and the putts didn't drop.
No way for me, and it's not been mentioned anywhere else that I've seen.

It's amazing to see how popular Greg Norman is these days. Someone had to fill the void with Tiger out and I never would have believe it would be Greg. He was easily the world's most popular player for quite a while, before the ascent of Tiger.

I had a good time at the Open...got to see most of Friday afternoon...no Norman, but it was pretty entertaining. Got to see lots of good players, hear how Southern Boo Weekley really is, see Els chip in for birdie, and almost got hit by David Howell's approach. Pretty fun and standing near the greens you really appreciate just how good these guys are more than on TV.

Agreed. I go to the Senior PGA tournament here in KC each year. I'm amazed at how well those guys play golf in their 50s and 60s. Those golf balls head towards the flag like lawn darts. Amazing stuff to watch, especially if you've even tried to play golf. I think I do pretty well to shoot around 90, but then you see these guys play and suddenly realize you're not so good.
