View Full Version : Who will get the 1st pick overall in 2009?

RendeR

Thread title is the question, who will it be? The jets are looking pretty terrible right now, the Raiders have definitely inproved some from last year so I think they're safe this time round. The Ravens have huge question marks everywhere but in the secondary. The team a lot of magazines and online polls have tabbed is a surprise to me though: The Kansas City Chiefs.

Are they really that bad?

Poll to ome, make your vote and tell us why you think so!!

The patriots, they will come up with some videos of the commissioner stealing street signs.

Or Houston because I get to watch every game if I want to.

Count me in for the Patriots... it's interesting how they've gone from being nice-guys to "heels," basically in the past 12 months, and a last-place finish would only complete the process, after which they can go back to being a pitiful franchise that everyone roots for, like the Cubs.

Chief Rum

I feel pretty comfortable saying it won't be any one of these teams. There is almost always a big surprise loser, or someone people thought would be much improved who were pretty bad the previous year.

Tell us who it is then Chief =)

I left the raiders off because I really think the addition of McFadden alone will win them a couple more games than say, the Jets or KC. I've got a good feeling for the Dolphins season as well because if you look at last season, while it was pathetic, they were in 2/3 of their games losing by a TD or less in half of them. I think with some solid rookies they could make some wins.

I basically went through and selected what I see "on paper" as the worst team from each division. Just basedon that I'm going with the Jets, but KC really could make it close with their schedule and a general lack of depth overall.

hoopsguy

Also, if you throw in the annual Mike Brown injury in the first couple of weeks your Chicago Bears would be a reasonable entry. Barring a Matt Forte breakout, they have the worst collection of "skill position" talent in the league. And this is coming from a guy who has been a Rex defender in years past.

Those are two different questions...

Who will be the worst team in the NFL this season?
The Falcons...by far. They got rid of anyone with talent while blowing their FA money on a backup running back and wasting a #3 pick on a quarterback who may have been around for their second round pick. The franchise is squarely in the shitter.

Who will get the 1st pick overall in 2009?
Not the Falcons. Atlanta is such a shitty franchise that even when they have a pitiful excuse of a team, they'll find a way to screw themselves out of getting the #1 pick by winning two or three games at the end of season.

fantom1979
07-27-2008, 11:17 PM
I think it's worth noting that someone named Orton or Grossman will be starting for the Bears, and their entire off-season consisted of signing Kevin Jones, Marty Booker, and a wooden peg-leg for Mike Brown.

Also, they lost their top rusher (not a real loss), and receiver from last year.

wasting a #3 pick on a quarterback who may have been around for their second round pick.

You have to be insane to believe that. Ryan wouldn't have survived pick #8, if not pick #6.

SFL Cat

I'm not seeing Ryan prosper in Hotlanta this season. Hopefully the kid has some mental toughness, cuz if not...his confidence could be shot after the season.

Dola edit...I don't think he rated a #3 pick, but I also don't think he would have been around in the second round either.

ISiddiqui
07-27-2008, 11:58 PM
I think Ryan won't be playing much until after midseason. Smith seems smart, so I think Redman will be getting a lot of snaps, especially early. If the o-line looks halfway decent, maybe Ryan gets a shot (at least more than 4 games or so).

Tigercat
07-28-2008, 04:08 AM
It probably won't be the Falcons, just because someone will come out of nowhere to be more awful than most people think. But still, Atlanta is the safest bet by far.

Listening to sports talk radio here the other day and the callers and hosts were talking about 6-10 being the worst the team could end up. I am still not sure what kind of narcotics they were on. Its not hard to imagine the Falcons with only 2-4 wins.

For season win totals, Vegas has Atlanta at 4.5 followed by Miami and KC at 5.5. Oakland, San Fran and Baltimore are at 6. Detroit and St. Louis are the last of the bad teams at 6.5.

49er's. I'm surprised no one's mentioned them yet, but that's probably how far they've fallen off the radar screen.

QuikSand
09-15-2008, 10:08 AM
As bad as they look, I just can't imagine a team with as much QB talent as Cinti/Palmer plowing into the abyss all year long. They look really bad, but it usually takes special incompetence at that position to really collapse. I have to think that Palmer alone gives them a chance to win maybe 4 games this year.

JPhillips
09-15-2008, 10:12 AM
Normally I'd agree, but it appears the team has already completely quit on Lewis. They are far from the least talented team in the NFL, but I think they'll make a good run at the worst record.

In retrospect, cutting Anderson, O'Neal, and Johnson seems to have alienated the players. It doesn't help that both Anderson and O'Neal look like upgrades over the guys the Bengals kept.

I'm really pushing for an 0-32 season for the state of Missouri. We've been bad but we need to hit rock bottom for King Carl and Herm to be shown the door. I was willing to give Herm a shot because he seems like a good guy and his Jets teams overachieved but the style of the league has passed him by and he gets too attached to favorites that suck.

The favorite debate in Missouri right now is how the Chiefs and Rams would fare against the Tigers. I have no reason to believe either team could stop the Missouri offense and I think the Chiefs are so bad on offense that a college team could indeed hold them in check.

I say the Chiefs trade down out of 1/2 and grab Maclin in the early first round, get Chase Coffman in the late first or second and take Daniel in the third or fouth and bring the spread to the NFL, baby!

It's amazing how bad the Lions are this year. They could actually go 0-16. Here's what their schedule looks like for the rest of the year.

Sunday, November 16 at Carolina Panthers
Sunday, November 23 TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Thursday, November 27 TENNESSEE TITANS
Sunday, December 7 MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Sunday, December 14 at Indianapolis Colts
Sunday, December 21 NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Sunday, December 28 at Green Bay Packers

The only winnable game I see for them is the Buccs. There's no way they stand a chance against the rest of them, unless GB sits all of their starters in the last game ala the 49ers of the 80's/90's.

I voted Falcons, but the Dolphins should definitely be on the list.

Clearly I know football.

The Dolphins will be selecting a DB with the #1.

Heh

Oh, the Dolphins are crap too. I'll freely admit that. Especially after they traded away every single player who meant even a little to me. I like the Cowboys more than I like the Dolphins this year.

Wow, this should end up as a signature ...

Well, as it turned out, even with Zach Thomas on the Cowboys, I still thoroughly enjoyed rooting against them. ;)

Dola,

I doubt the Lions will be the worst team. They cant do anything right, including being bad enough to get the first overall pick.

Sometimes, a team manages to do EVERYTHING just right. :D

What are the odds that the "winner" of this poll makes the playoffs?

3-1? 4-1?

Nice call.

You got nothing to talk about Dolphin boy. I saw that Arizona game, they're still far worse than Cincinnati.

:p

This thread is awesome. Basically shows that nobody knows what they are talking about.

Wow, I picked Baltimore. I suck at this.

I picked Atlanta, but I thought the thread asked who will get the 21st pick overall in the 2009 draft.
