Ford played well, but his only INT was returned for a TD. That put WVU ahead by two scores. We were alive until the end, but a late-game score by WVU put them up two scores again.
Mack only ran for 54 yards in his final college game.
A huge detriment to our game was 3 missed field goals. They were all from 40+ yards, so you can't blame Scott too much but it still hurt.
Final Score: West Virginia 42, Rutgers 28

Lee Picks: USC
Kirk Picks: Wisconsin
USC: B OVR, B+ OFF, B DEF
WISC: B OVR, B+ OFF, B DEF
It was a close game for a while. Wisconsin opened up the game with a field goal, but USC responded with a 28 yard TD pass, putting them up 7-3.
The 2nd quarter started and USC scored again on a 33 yard field goal. But just two minutes later, Wisconsin tied up the game on a 30 yard pass. It was a defensive battle the rest of the half, but with 1:47 left, a 9 yard TD pass put them up 17-10.
After trading TD's at the start of the 3rd, Wisconsin scored 14 unanswered points to finish the quarter. They were up 38-17 going into the final quarter. It looked like they had the game sealed.
Four minutes into the 4th as Wisconsin started a drive, a USC defensive back jumped a route and picked off a pass and brought it to the house on a 27 yard return! They were now down only 14.
After 9 minutes of struggling from both sides, USC found the endzone again on an 8 yard run with 2:46 left, and were now down 38-31.
However, they couldn't get the ball back.
Congratulations Wisconsin! You are the 2016 National Champions!
Final Score: Wisconsin 38, USC 31

Players Leaving
If both Tremblay and Herring leave, I'll be losing 7 defensive starters, including 6 members of my front 7. That would not be good. I'd like to keep these two around. I do have some solid OLB's set to take over though.

Results
Considering that I only have 8 recruits left on my board, I feel like I can spend a good chunk of time with Herring and Tremblay.
I start off with Herring and spend 50 minutes with him. He tells me that I'm right, and that he loves the university. He's staying around!
Now on to Tremblay. I spend 50 minutes with him as well. He tells me it could go either way, and that he's gotta sit down with his parents. I give him some time and call him again and spend a good 30 minutes with him. He tells me that the more he thinks about it, the more excited he gets about playing for me. Woohoo! He's staying!

2017 Off-Season:
Off-Season Recruiting:
Week One:
I've gotten eight commitments already, and as of now we have #3 class in the nation with FOUR 5*'s and FOUR 4*'s. Nice!
We have eight players left on the board. We're in a close race for most of them but a few have us way ahead, and all we need to do this week is set up a visit. The ones that are close will get a ton of time with us.
We even make a few promises to some players. We promised OLB Garcia a game in his home state of West Virginia.
I also promised RB Miller a game in his home state of Louisiana.
I got a call in to everyone except the two athletes, but they have soft-committed to us. I'll make sure to heavily talk to them next week.
Week Two:
Woohoo! We landed 6 players this week! Here's the rundown.
5* RB Todd Randall
4* OLB Andy Garcia
4* DE Titus Palmer
4* RB Peter Miller
4* P Stevie Bush
3* FB Joel Perry
Damn...we open up the board to find one of the ATH's committed to Wisconsin. The other has de-committed from us and has Penn St. as their #1 now. Well, we have 10 hours with this guy so I'm hoping I can change his mind.
Week Three:
And we land 4* ATH Mike Henshaw! And that wraps it up!
Actually, I had decided that I wasn't going to be able to add players in the off-season, but I think I'm going to say that if I have no one left on the board, I can go after players that have us in their top three schools.
I add quite a few players but nothing too special other than a 4* DE and a 4* FS.
Week Four:
Okay, I decided that I can visit and offer a scholarship through quick call, but can never make any pitches (other than the 5 minutes needed to offer a scholarship through quickcall).
Week Five:
Still no commitments from any of the new guys. I set up another visit or two and end the final week of recruiting.
End:
Recruiting ends and we get last-minute commitments from the following players:
4* DE Shawn Beverly
4* FS Phillip Jenkins
2* SS Eddie Henry
2* DE Brad Thomas
2* ATH Ken Bell
2* WR Michael Mitchell
2* FB Geoff Wilson
We finish with the #1 class in the nation!

2016/2017 Recruiting Review
Major Needs:
Running Back: I've got three senior's at running back. I don't necessarily need an elite player but I need a backup.
Fullback: With Baker graduating after this season, I need someone to groom behind Jean.
Wide Receiver: I have two SR's, and the future starters are all sophomores. I'd love to get some guys to redshirt now and take over when those guys leave.
Tight End: Our starter Southall is leaving after the season, and Holmes is already a JR. I need a player here for the future.
Center: Stevenson has done a good job but is now a JR and his backup is nothing special.
Right Tackle: I have a Sophmore starting and a JR backing up.
Defensive Tackle: SR and JR starting now, and the backups are a SO and a JR.
Minor Needs:
DE
OLB
CB
P
We definitely addressed running back by picking up two 5*'s and one 4* recruit, giving us a ton of options in the future.
We also addressed fullback with 3* Joel Perry. He was good enough to fight for a starting job, but he'll most likely get redshirted this year.
By picking up two 4* TE's, we surpassed our need at that position.
We didn't land a center, but we did get a guard that could move there if needed.
We didn't address our need at OT.
5* Andy Morroco fills a need at WR.
We filled our need at DT with a 4* recruit.
We filled all of our minor needs except CB which will need to be a major focus this year.

I had a few interesting decisions to make. First of all, at LT we have to players capable of starting. I chose Lovelady because he is a better pass-blocker. At RG, I chose Jones for the same reason. It's also good that they are older. The younger players now have another year to get better and will take over the starting job soon.

2017 Recruiting
Pipeline:
Our pipeline states are NJ, PA, FL, GA, and NY.
Major Needs:
Cornerback: This is my most pressing need. With four of my top five CB's graduating after this season, I'm desperate. WR's and ATH's are fair game to recruit so I can convert them.
Wide Receiver: I landed a 5* recruit last year, but I don't have another young guy to play alongside him.
Center: Stevenson is graduating this year and I couldn't land a guy last year.
Right Tackle: My starter is a JR, but his backup is graduating and I'd like to get a guy so I can redshirt him and give him a little time to develop underneath my starter.
Defensive End: I'd love a guy to go along with Reggie Ford for the future.
Defensive Tackle: Two players graduating. Big time need.

2017 Week One:
RECRUITING:
Welcome to the 2017 season! We're set and ready to roll into another long season.
To kick off recruiting, we do the usual and get out as many offers as we can. Our recruiting board is full, but we have stocked a few positions with a lot of players rather than a lot of positions with a few players in each. We have a couple holes that we really need to fill rather than just adding overall talent.
With that being said, let's kick it off by offering scholarships to every player that has Rutgers listed as their top choice.
Wow. Our first target was 5* OLB Connor Walker, the #1 OLB in the nation. He's coming to Rutgers! Can we get another?
We have some bad luck but we get to 4* ATH Travis Newman. He's committed to Rutgers!
That's it this week, but I'm still super happy about Walker and Newman looks like he can be a CB.
So after that, we stop from the top of the board and go down the list offering a scholarship to each player.
I hit all but five players.

GAME:
#1 Rutgers (0-0) @ Marshall (0-0)
A dominant win against the Thundering Herd. Ford stats off his season on the right foot, completeing 17 of 28 passes for 379 yards and 3 TD's. He ran 5 times for -10 yards though. I was hoping he would be able to run better in the spread offense.
Harrell seemed to like it though. He ran 12 times for 95 yards and 2 TD's. Cochran came in and ran 11 times for 69 yards and 2 TD's.
Cantrell and Hughes each had 6 receptions, but Hughes picked up 181 yards and 2 TD's. Morroco's debut was solid, with 3 receptions for 78 yards. He had a nice 49 yard pass play on a short pass.
On defense, we had 4 sacks and an INT. Anderson was great, getting 2 of those sacks as well as taking dow a player 5 times behind the LOS, with 8 tackles total. Tremblay had the INT.
Final Score: Rutgers 52, Marshall 7

#17 Virginia Tech (0-0) @ #1 Rutgers (1-0)
I went back to a balanced offense. I just don't trust the spread and how this game will use it.
Weird game. Ford got injured (he'll be ready for next week) and Patterson came in. He had pretty solid numbers, going 16-22 for 205 yards and 2 TD's.
The running game never got going though, and Cochran, the backup RB, is injured for the next 6 weeks.
Hughes and Cantrell both had 7 receptions. Cantrell had 100 yards and a TD. Morroco also got his first TD.
We gave up six sacks and didn't get any on defense.
Final Score: Rutgers 24, Virginia Tech 13

2017 Week Three:
RECRUITING:
All of the visits last week went very well.
We get three more players who are ready to visit so we set them up to come to our next home game which is Week 7.
I'm feeling good, simply because I'm not looking to get all of these players. Most of them are very similar within each position, so getting two and missing out on five doesn't really hurt. Right now, I'm just trying to get a little lead in interest to run with.

Hughes and Royal stole the show through the air. Hughes had 6 receptions for 136 yards and a TD, and Royal displayed his dizzying speed and caught 5 passes for 141 yards and 2 TD's.

Whoa...ten more players need to get set up for visits this week. We set them all up for a showdown with Georgia Tech in two weeks. A few can't make it that week so we schedule them for this bye week, unless they are 5* recruits. If so, we set them up for Week 9 when Wake Forest is here.

Ford threw for 275 yards and 3 TD's. Harrell ran for 141 yards and 2 TD's, and both Hughes and Royal went over 100 yards receiving.
How we won this game despite giving up 7 sacks is beyond me.
Final Score: Rutgers 38, Miami 14

Hughes caught 6 passes for 113 yards. Other than that the offense wasn't incredible but we got the job done. Lovelady, our LT, gave up 3 sacks. Yuck.
On defense, Moses had 10 tackles and 2 sacks. McDaniel had 2 INT's. As a whole, we had 3 sacks and 3 INT's.

#17 Michigan (9-2) @ #2 Rutgers (11-0)
Here we are in Week 14. We win, and we are undefeated in the regular season and will play for the ACC Championship and the BCS National Championship.
We were tied going into the half at 14-14. Harrell scored both of our TD's. The second half started with Michigan returning a kickoff, a bomb to a WR that brought them to the 12, and then a run in. Letting them score that easily was not a good sign.
But three minutes later, Ford hit our 5th WR Robinson on a 57 yard pass for a TD, but we missed the XP!
We were down 21-20.
In the 4th, we marched down the field to the one yard line, and Ford brought it in. We went for 2 and got it. We held them from there!
Harrell ran for 167 yards and 2 TD's. Royal had 11 receptions for 80 yards. Herring and Schlicher each had 2 sacks on defense, and Dukes had one as well.
Final Score: Rutgers 28, Michigan 21

We rolled into Pasadena pumped as ever. For the first time since 1869 we could say, "Rutgers is the national champion."
After trading few punts, Harrell ran in from 10 yards, putting us up 7-0. Three minutes later, Florida rolled down the field and put it in from 5 yards on a run. The game was tied 7-7.
From that point until halftime, it was a defensive battle. Florida threw an INT but we couldn't take advantage.
At halftime: Rutgers 7, Florida 7
With 8:53 left in the 3rd, we were on the 1-yard line and Patterson, in for an injured Scott, hit our TE Joe Holmes on a fade route. We were up 14-7.
After 7 minutes of strong defensive play from both sides, Florida made a big mistake, throwing another INT. We took advantage this time, and Harrell ran in for another TD from 5 yards out. Rutgers up, 21-7.
We opened up the scoring in the 4th with yet another 6 yard TD run from Harrell. 28-7. We were coasting.
But with 6:42 left, Florida's WR got behind the safeties and Rose hit him on a 52 yard bomb for a TD. 28-14.
As Florida marched down the field, hoping to score and then recover an onside kick, we sealed our win. Rhodes jumped a pass from Rose and brought it back 52 yards for a touchdown! We were up 35-14 with 3:32 left, and we didn't let them back in.
We are the National Champions of college football!
Final Score: Rutgers 35, Florida 14.

Shit. We're losing a lot of players this year. As it stands now, we'll be losing 20 players. We'd be losing 5 starters from the offense and a whopping 9 from the defense.
I'd love to get these guys to stay around. I did great on the recruiting front so I think I can risk some time with them.

Results
I start out with Harrell. My offense has always been built around the run. We spend 60 minutes with him. He tells me it's a big decision and that he needs some time to think.
I move on to Hughes. He was great for us and broke a few school records. I talk to him for 60 minutes and tells me he's made up his mind. He's coming back!
I spend 20 minutes with Ratliff. I have some FS's ready to come in so it's not as important. He told me that last night he had a dream, and it involved playing on Sunday's. That solidified his decision. He's leaving.
Next up is Steve Thompson, RT. We need him here. We spend 65 minutes with him. Fuck. He says it's a tough decision, but he's going pro. Big hole at RT for right now.
Now it's back to Harrell. As of now, we have 6 hours 35 mins left. I spend 45 with him. He tells me that he's weighed all his options, and thinks staying in school is the best idea. Nice!
