anyone else running this on their PC? I don't have an xbox 360 controller and I can't play the game with the mouse. The very first scene is driving Roman somewhere and it's almost as if it thinks there's a gamepad attached because the hint buttons keep flashing between the keyboard and the controller symbols. Also, it keeps the wheels pegged to the left and the camera keeps sliding to the back left bumper making it impossible to drive.

You're lucky if that's the only problem you're having. The PC release has been a disaster. The lead developer has been taking a beating. Anyone who has a PS3 or 360 should opt for those versions over the PC.

Ouch. I just hate using the controller for FPS stuff. I bought Resistance for the PS3 ($29) and it just reminded me why I don't play FPSs on the console. It's painful.

I'm running it fine and have been since release day. A good friend of mine has as well.

I've been reading the Steam forum for the game as well as GTAforums and a lot of the whining about the game is ridiculous.

The game has very high system requirements, but most of the problems people are having are: 1.) they can't accept the fact that their system can't run everything on the highest setting 2.) their system's drivers aren't up to date and 3.) nVidia's drivers had some serious bugs in them and it showed when this game was released. They've already released 3 updates to their drivers because of GTA4.

I haven't played any of the other versions of GTA on PC, but driving in this one feels pretty solid and aiming with mouse/keyboard is 1000 times better than it is with a controller. IGN's reviewer said he started out using a controller for driving and the mouse/keyboard for everything else and ended up going keyboard only after awhile.

To touch on #1 from above, the developers have stated that in order to match the consoles as far as graphical quality goes the slider settings only need to be around 10 (they go up to 100) and people really can't accept the fact that they can't simply put everything on 100 and play the game because their system runs crysis on high settings.

If you have anything connected to a USB port other than mouse and keyboard I'd unplug those and see if that fixes it.

I did have a pen/tablet hooked up but that was a the first thing I removed and rebooted.

Only thing hooked up now via USB is mouse and keyboard.

I had zero problem installing and zero problems running the game. I just can drive the damn thing.

Here's the closest thing to your problem that I've found so far.

Well, I removed/deleted every HID on my system and it still isn't working. I guess I'll have to wait for the next patch.
