Philly's defense really has to play better. Even though the Eagles offense has no touchdowns yet, they've been doing as well or better than I expected today.

EDIT: There's that secondary play I was looking for. Go Asante, Go!

No fun league strikes again. Anyway, great play by Samuel.

Thanks to commercials.

I may never go to another live game because of the breaks. It's so weird watching the football players just stand there for 2-3 minutes after a change of possession.

Thanks advertisers.

McNabb looking GREAT this drive (as I think of the franchise QB/McNabb thread...)

I really can't wait until the Vikings no longer have a bad offensive coach and a terrible QB. :(

Nice hit by Robison. The Vikings really need to put together a nice drive here and its going to have to be at the hands of Peterson.

My goodness. Please do not let Jackson throw anymore.

Bad drop by Sheldon there - he has had too many of those this year.

Yeah, he looks a little tense now.. unlike the previous few weeks.

Unless Peterson is gonna break a couple long runs that should be ball game.

Don't understand why the Eagles are even passing. Run 3 draws and punt, your defense has been fantastic and Tavaris Jackson/Brad Childress are worthless. Eagles-Giants should be a good one next week.

After the bad snap from Birk I threw my pillow as hard as I could into the ground after that my wife yelled me and my dog is afraid of me..

Damn it, of all things to happen. Fucking Birk.

Get rid of Childress last year and find a quarterback now. What's with all the screens now? I expected to see a lot of that today and saw maybe two all game minus this drive.

Chilly's saved his skin by winning the division. T-Jack is NOT the Viking's future. They won't win a playoff game with him at the helm. Mark it.

He shouldn't have, but he's likely saved himself becaue the Wilf's don't know how to run a football team. They started screwing up when they decided to hire a coach themselves and go with the "Triangle of Authority". It's great they're willing to spend money to improve the roster, but they haven't been doing things right when it comes to building a real contender.

Getting a division title with 9 wins because no one else in the division is any good is no reason to keep a bad coach around. Hopefully the fact that this game was almost blacked out and looked incompetent in the area that was supposed to be Childress' strong point will hopefully lead Zygi in the right direction to fire Childress and find a GM to put things together.

And as an owner who wants public money for a stadium and isn't likely to get it in the first place, Wilf has to know that the longer Childress has been here the more fans have been bored by his awful offense and have become more and more disinterested in the team. It's gotten harder to watch as time has gone on. Sticking by his guy could turn him into the next Glen Taylor.

Go Birds!!!

Interesting round one.

Having not seen much of the Ravens I need to know, do they trash talk after every play or was I missing something there? It seemed like they were at least.

They've been doing that for years. Sometimes it goes way over the line, like in last year's Pats/Ravens game. Many despise the Ravens but they also fear them.

Well, should be interesting with the two weak division leaders who weren't supposed to even be worthy of making the playoffs moving on.

The Chargers are playing about as well as anyone right now so that is not really a surprise. The Cardinals game was a toss up against a rookie quarterback making his first playoff start so that is no real surprise. If they both win next week it will be a surprise though I could see the Chargers maybe winning with how well they are playing.

Eagles v Chargers in the Super Bowl.

Sports radio will love it because there will be days of bitching about how teams shouldn't be allowed in the playoffs with 8 wins or 9 wins.

Yeah tuned into the game late and saw him as the head referree-surprised he was given a playoff game despite his past good record as a referee based on how he did this season.

The announcers talked about this early in the game. Despite a couple well-known bad calls this year, that crew still graded out as the #1 officiating crew in the NFL this season. They earned at least one playoff game, and hopefully they get more.

Vikings could be an awesome team if they ever got a quarterback. I haven't seen Tarvarius play much before today, but that guy is a benchwarmer at best.

thanks for that info Cringer. God if they graded out as the #1 crew after those calls, the rest of the crews must really suck.

The Vikings let their QB of the future go when they tried to sneak Tyler Thigpen on to their practice squad. ;) There was no real good reason to start a very inexperienced QB that the staff had doubts about all season over the QB that did most of the work that got them into the playoffs and was much more experienced.

here has been a lot of crap calls this year so I wouldn't doubt that. It at least seemed that every week there were potentially game changing miscalls being made.

Oh and congrats to the Ravens and Eagles fans for their teams wins today. I'd especially like to thank the Eagles for winning so the Cards get to play a nighttime game in a warm(er) city than what would have been a very early game for them in probably cold weather and likely snow too. ;)

yeah I agree with you EF, I don't know if it was the Hochuli missed call in the SD/Den game that brought the crews into more attention or not, but there seemed to be a lot more bad/missed calls this season than in season's past.

I'm guessing there also isn't any extra weight given to game-changing calls or anything like that, so the Hochuli play probably gets scored the same as your average hold.

I could be wrong of course, no clue on how the ref grading process works and I doubt it's public.

I watched that play live in amazement. What a throwdown.

I really love when QBs throw picks and then become football players again. It's something I love to see happen, within reason of course (no blindside cheap shots, hits at the knees, etc). I give Jackson credit for actually putting himself in that position. Compare that to Favre's pathetic attempt last week at bringing down that DL who picked off that screen pass, in one of the dumbest in a long line of dumb INTs he has thrown in his career.

Some info from Peter King's column (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/01/04/wildcards/3.html) today:

I looked Sunday into how the postseason officiating assignments are made. But first a word about the grading of officials. Each official works 15 games during the season, covering approximately 2,250 plays per zebra. They're graded on accuracy of calls made, graded down on calls missed, judged as crews on the flow and pace of a game, and graded on proper positioning and general professionalism. At the end of the season, every official gets an individual grade. The crews are ranked collectively by aggregate grades, while the individual officials -- 17 per position -- are ranked 1 through 17.

If you see Hochuli in any of the last three games of the year, you'll know he was one of the three highest-rated referees of the 2008 season. Hard for me to believe he could be, based on the enormity of the mistake in Week 2, but we'll know later this month.

What's weird is that the second quote doesn't really make sense given the first (kinda like what I was saying above).

Did I hear that right? Miami only has two receivers?

Um, that's if you're counting Ginn. Which you shouldn't, cause dude is fucking awful. He runs routes like he's riding in a Lark.

Somewhat off topic, but lots of talk locally that Scott Pioli has been offered a contract with the Chiefs that would make him one of the best paid execs in the NFL. The Eagle Tribune (Mass. paper) is reporting that Pioli has the offer and all it needs is a signature.
