So my wife and I are watching Battlestar Galactica (we just watched the first season last Summer and are most of the way through season 3 right now) and I ask my wife if she really likes the show. She says she does, surprisingly enough since she doesn't like Star Wars (!). I asked her if she ever talks to her friends about it and she said no she hasn't.
That got me thinking about how you really like some stuff but don't discuss it with other people for fear of them thinking you're a nerd. On a message board dedicated to a text-sim, I can bet that there are some nerdy things that everyone does here...so what's the nerdiest thing that you do?

Not sure it's real nerdy, but I'm quite heavily into comic books nowadays. Knew next to nothing about them about 18 months ago but I keep digging and reading. My pull list has grown exponentially in the last year.
I don't collect simply to collect in pristine condition, I simply like reading the dang things and I always carry a trade paperback to work for during the lunch break. In fact, I have volume 1 of the Marvel Essential Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man in my desk drawer right next to me that I pull out in my lunch break to read an issue or so.
And no, I don't really admit to my coworkers that I read comic books, so I guess that makes it at least a bit nerdy. :)
Of course, I used to write a dynasty (as many of you do) about fictional soccer players, heh...

edit to add that I keep track the the books I own with status (read/unread) and books I'd like to get (wishlist) in a big excel spreadsheet. yeah, that part is probably nerdier...

In my household being a nerd is celebrated. I have my bookshelf of every Dragonlance book across the room from my Gf's shrine to Yoda/Star Wars. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

I would say my recent WoW obsession. My wife enjoys mocking me as I do quests with Saldana and chat over my headset.
I tried to explain WoW to some of our friends while we were out Monday, and there really is no way to make it sound cool.
I would also put my Werewolf obsession up there.

I'm into Warhammer, nuff said.
I watch games and follow daily at their websites the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL. I also play football, baseball and hockey videogames.
How is that nerdy would you ask, don't we all do that?
If you lived in Spain, where 99% of men only watch and talk about soccer and the only sport video games played are FIFA or Pro Evolution Socccer, that think that football is just rugby wearing an armor, baseball that sport where fat guys that do not look like sportmen hit a ball with a wood stick, and that hockey is about watching guys boxing over an iced pool, then you would know why i'm a really really nerd for most of the people around me.
You should see our friends faces when we tell them that we won't go on Sunday to have dinner and watch socccer at their house because I'm going to watch American football in my computer. My wife can't stop to ask herself why she had to marry the only Spanish into American Sports :)

I imagine the "nerdiest" (though I prefer the term "geekiest") thing I do is still play Dungeons & Dragons and, in particular, go to GenCon every year.
You have to add that onto playing computer games, reading comic books (though only trade paperbacks these days), and the fact that my "office" (or Duchy of Dork, as my wife calls it) is decked out with comic book art and a shelf proudly displaying (a subset) of my action figure collection (of which I still only sort of collect). I am pretty comfortable in my geekdom.

Just to piggyback on all the wrestling action figure talk, I remember winning my stepdad's weekly office football pool when I was a kid. It netted me about $70, so what did I do? I bought a mini-wrestling ring and some action figures. I don't know how that added up to $70, especially considering I bought it all at a flea market...guess I got ripped off.

4. The last DVD I bought was the Coast series from Britain
5. Dr. Who is my idol.
6. On every flight I take, regardless of time, I have to have 3 items. Dice, paper, and pen. I can entertain myself for hours making up dice games. My dad said I've done it since I was 8. People always ask me what I'm doing.

There's an author, David Rosenfelt, one of whose main characters (Andy Carpenter) has a game of "song-talking" with one of his friends. Song-talking is trying to work song lyrics into normal everyday conversation without the other picking up on it. They do it with movie lines, too.

It's hard for me to gauge this one, but when Madden first came out on the Genesis it didn't keep track of stats, and (I don't think there was a season option... and the game didn't have NFLPA license so they just used jersey numbers to identify them.) I created a season schedule, simmed the games and watched the computer play itself, and keep track of the stats in a notebook. I also had an almanac to look up players if I didn't know their jersey number.
Now that I write the description I'm pretty sure its obsessive and nerdy. :D I was 12 or 13 at the time.

Nobody I know IRL knows I do that. Nobody.
Perhaps even nerdier still, I write stuff about my dynasties that I don't even post online. Like, in FBCB for example, I type out writeups at the beginning of each season on the other teams in my conference. Sure, part of it is to familiarise myself with each team fully, but the other reason is that I get some kind of sick enjoyment out of it.

I annoy my wife because I usually wake up early in the morning and take a dump first thing. The sound of tape being pulled away when I open the bags wakes her up. Last year I made the move to the self-sealing bags and they're a lot better, but still make the noise to wake her up.
Going off on tangents, my wife will actually help me bag and board my comics. Usually I wait about 3-4 months and bag everything...it takes me about 2-3 hours on my own, but much less with her helping.
Also, I saw heavyink is going to start charging $.99 per shipment. I'm surprised it took them this long to start doing it.

I don't board anything when they are still unread, I simply leave them in one of the Heavy Ink box they came in, keeps 'em stacked nice. Then I do like you and keep evey read issues in one neat stack that I bag and board every 2-3 months while watching TV.

yeah, and $2.49 for shipping to Canada (although they're offering some special deal for the stuff I do around the site, didn't even have to suck up for it ;)), which is still much better than having to drive to a LCBS if said LCBS is not within 15 minutes of your home. They will also give more control to the customer as to the frequency of shipment, like "ship when I have x books waiting" or a "ship now" button for when you just can't wait. Exact details have not been made public yet, but you can see this thread (http://heavyink.com/forum/forums/1/topics/728) for more information. Pete said he'd send an email in the next few days with the details too.

Oh, I don't bag and board until after I read...in most cases. For example, I've barely read Trinity and I just got issues 31 and 32 yesterday. I think I have up to issue 18 bagged and boarded but I need to read 'em.

Anime/manga.
meant to ask about it yesterday, any good manga to recommend? Nothing too corny or cheesy though.
I'm a big fan of Naoki Urasawa. I've read up to volume 5 of Monster and will keep getting them until I get to the end and I'm eagerly awaiting the start of his next two translated series 20th Century Boys and Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka.
Among other, I've read a couple of Blade of the Immortal. I keep meaning to get more of it, but there's always something else I like more. I read a couple of Eyeshield 21 and have vol 3 & 4 in a pile somewhere. Really cheesy, yet kinda fun to see American Football described by a Japanese writer, for Japanese readers. :)
I absolutely love Usagi Yojimbo although even if it's a Samurai story, it's not really manga per se.
I bought the first Path of the Assassin during the Christmas break but I,ve yeat to sit down and read it.
Feel free to recommend some.

There's a really cool book about someone playing a dice based baseball sim and documenting his seasons and talking about his players etc. ...
I never finished it and lost it during one of my flights back and forth - can't remember what its called now to get another copy, any clues chaps?
PS - If we're talking about 'past' nerd activities I can out nerd most people, I used to invest entire RPG systems (varying from being sports based to normal fantasy/sci-fi ones) then only play them solo with myself - creating entire scenarios, characters, timelines, histories - you name it I've done it .... just as well I got a job as a games designer really ;)

I think I kept stats for just about every sports game I ever played, except for Earl Weaver since it actually stat tracking on it's own. But I did enter all the AL rosters into the game by hand, every season.
Just last week I found a notebook where I'd kept track of all my transactions form a Madden 99 or 00 dynasty. Then I spent a half hour reading through it and juding the moves I made, so I guess I'm still a nerd.

It is funny to read how many other people kept statistics from old school games that didn't track them. I have always done this, but by far the worst was when I did it for a mini pinball baseball game I had when I was about 10. -A friend of mine had a baseball game where you rolled two dice and there were 4 different cards based on, I think, average and home runs from the previous year. That didn't satisfy me, so I made one based on the average for a couple of years with many different possible cards based on how the player was and rolling 5 dice to make the percentages more accurate.
-I played through an entire season of Tecmo Super Bowl on the SNES with 5 teams
