I know there are a few golf geeks like myself on the board. I can't wait till 4pm to get home and watch The Masters. It's my favorite tournament of the year and the only one that I'll watch all of the TV coverage from start to finish.
Hard to go against Tiger but I think a few players to watch for are Paul Casey and Geoff Ogilvy. I'll be pulling once again for Phil to get his 3rd green jacket!

Pretty good shot from Vijay during the Par 3 challenge, even if he is a pompous ass..........

That was at #16. It a tradition each year that after the players hit a shot on that hole (in the practice round) that they walk up and skip a few across.
Last year when I was there, Mike Weir did it right handed.

Love the Masters, know the holes so well after all these years and the surrounding forest, flowers, ponds, etc make it my all-time favorite course. Really pulling for Coastal Carolina product Dustin Johnson who has just teed off in his first Masters.
EDIT: He parred his first hole, so not too nervous I guess.

I really enjoy watching the majors, especially The Masters. Have a Masters polo shirt someone picked up for me from the gift shop about 3 years back.
Wonder if Greg Norman will do anything this year, that would be a great story.

He's currently -1 through his first six or seven holes, so off to a good start

Well Johnson got to -2 a couple times only to fall back including a double on 11. He seemingly is drawn to water as he hit in the water on 11, and hit several times in the tourney at Houston last week where he missed the cut. At +2 right now. :(

I'm definitely writing to get into the practice round lottery for next year.

Dustin rebounded nicely from the double when he birdied 15, 16, and 17. Sadly he bogeyed 18 to fall back to Even for the day, but given it was his first round at Augusta, a pretty good result. Hopefully he'll do enough tomorrow to keep him around for the weekend.

The Masters iPhone app they released for the tourney is pretty damn sweet. In addition to the normal leaderboard and such, they have live video from Amen Corner, plus 15 and 16. If you decide to leave the full screen video to check the leaderboard, it keeps the audio going and puts a micro screen of the action in the upper corner.

You do know there are no trees left at Oakmont right? :P No where to hide!
I shot an 86 and finished double, triple, triple, par (finished on the second hole in a shotgun start). Disappointing to say the least.

Wait, you need to hit it next to a tree before a foot wedge is required? Hmmmm, didn't know about that rule. That's going to hurt my golf game.

Dustin Johnson eagled both the 8th and 15th today and then bombed it 365 yards on the 18th to birdie that hole to finish -2 for the day the same as that Tiger Woods person. ;) That'd be cool if they were paired tomorrow

BTW, just a little bit of trivia:
The Masters Golf Tournament was named after the group of Southern Gentlemen who formed Augusta National Golf Club
I'm rooting for the Japanese man in the distressed Cowboy hat, because I'm amazed he could still shoot 18 holes after finishing all those early morning farm chores.
EDIT: Way to screw up the joke, Karl.

Tiger and Phil both have eagle putts coming up (Phil's is short) on 15.

Tiger pushes his a bit right. He'll tap in for bird and be two back.
Phil pushes his 4 footer far left! One behind the leader.

Tiger barely missed his long shot and Phil chmissed his 4 ft shot by like 8 ft.

Logan

On the par-3 16th, Tiger hits a beauty to about 5 feet from the pin.
Lefty has a more difficult birdie attempt.

04-12-2009, 04:05 PM
Great shot by Tiger on 16.
It'll be very interesting if both Tiger and Phil end up one stroke behind. Imagine the pressure on Perry as he's got to finish knowing he can't make a single mistake or he'll be in a playoff with two of the best golfers in the world.

I'm not a Mickelson fan, but I sympathize with those who are. The rollercoaster ride he puts them through has to be brutal.
He's given up at least 4 shots on the back 9.

Perry with a huge bird on 12!
Phil has an excellent birdie opp on 17, Tiger is off the green after 2.
Logan

Tiger chips past the hole, fairly long par putt coming.
Perry off to a great start on the par-5 12th.

Both Tiger and Phil with terrible finishes.
Logan
04-12-2009, 04:33 PM
Tiger rocked that tree.
edit: But ended up with a fairly decent approach shot despite being on the 10th hole. He left it within about 10 feet it looks like, shooting for par and what would end up as -9.
Perry pars 13, believe he 3-putted.

ESPN.com current headline on the story
Lefty and Tiger are engaging in a duel for the ages at Augusta. Will one wear another green jacket?
One of 'em is two strokes back of the leader, the other is three strokes back.
How about talking about Perry & Campbell, or even Cabrera, instead?

Um, interesting sand shot by Phil. A long par putt coming up.

Mickelson bogeys to finish at -9. Poor job by him.

Depends upon whether that espn.com front page is supposed to have news or pull viewers short term. In this instance, I'd say they're just as well off to have the leaders in the headline, or at least to say "Tiger & Left try to chase down the leaders".

Sick shot by Perry, at -14 and 2 up. For anyone following who didn't see, he rolled his tee shot to about a foot from the cup.

Perry hits his tee shot on 18 into the sand. Campbell missed a birdie putt up ahead that would've tied them up.

Thomkal
04-12-2009, 06:34 PM
well that was some impressive choke jobs by Mickelson, Woods, Perry and Campbell there too on the playoff hole.
And Dustin Johnson looked like he was on his way to a horrible final round, six over for the day after 12, he then eagled 13, eagled the par 4 14th, and birdied 15 and parred in from there to at least get back to a respectable +1 for the day, -1 for the tournament. Nice week for the Masters rookie :)

I love Phil! I'm really impressed at what he did today...yes he missed a makable eagle on 15 and a birdie on 17 but the shot on 7 was amazing. He played in the group with Tiger and he beat him. It wasn't good enough to win this tournament but I'm sure it'll help his confidence from here on out.
#11 was the hole that killed him...+3 for the tournament. It wasn't today that lost it for Phil it was Thursday. Tons of people went low...the course was ripe for the taking and he shot a 73.

Kenny Perry and the Miami Redhawks... 2 choke jobs for the ages this weekend.
Will anyone remember Perry's shot on 16 two years from now?
Dr. Sak
04-13-2009, 06:51 AM
Not since he didn't win...and that's a shame because it was one hell of a shot.
I was talking with someone at work this morning about Tiger and Phil's run. We were wondering if they were closer to the leaders (only 1 or 2 holes ahead) if that would have made an even bigger difference because the leaders really didn't start playing good until Tiger and Phil were off the course.
Oh well...still a great tournament.
