So, I get off at work at 5AM, drive home. I get here, kick back and relax for no less than 10 minutes when all of a sudden the fire alarm from the fire station about two blocks away starts going off.
I say to myself, "Damn, that probably just woke everyone up." But right as it goes off, I get a very small scent of smoke. Again, I say to myself, "damn, that must be relatively close."
After about thirty seconds, I open up the blinds and see what looks like fog, but literally before I can even think anything, I see two cops pull up. I race to get my pants on to see what's going on, and my neighbor (who lives in the same house as me, different apartment...it's a duplex) starts pounding on the door. "WE NEED TO GET OUT!" At this point, I scream to my girlfriend to wake up, make sure she's getting up and out, and gather up my pets.
I run outside and see that the apartment next door, which is honestly about four feet away from my place, is on fire, with flames coming out of the windows. I sit and watch for about an hour as they fight it. The place has been abandoned for about a month (and fire chief says it looks like arson), so I knew not to worry about anything other than the firemen and the flames shooting over to my house. Needless to say, I was definitely kind of in shock at the whole ordeal and definitely worried.
It's all over now...they're investigating and cleaning up the piles of glass. The firemen even posed for a group picture, so obviously everything went well on their end.
Just a crazy morning.
