View Full Version : Interesting Morning

So, I get off at work at 5AM, drive home. I get here, kick back and relax for no less than 10 minutes when all of a sudden the fire alarm from the fire station about two blocks away starts going off.

I say to myself, "Damn, that probably just woke everyone up." But right as it goes off, I get a very small scent of smoke. Again, I say to myself, "damn, that must be relatively close."

After about thirty seconds, I open up the blinds and see what looks like fog, but literally before I can even think anything, I see two cops pull up. I race to get my pants on to see what's going on, and my neighbor (who lives in the same house as me, different apartment...it's a duplex) starts pounding on the door. "WE NEED TO GET OUT!" At this point, I scream to my girlfriend to wake up, make sure she's getting up and out, and gather up my pets.

I run outside and see that the apartment next door, which is honestly about four feet away from my place, is on fire, with flames coming out of the windows. I sit and watch for about an hour as they fight it. The place has been abandoned for about a month (and fire chief says it looks like arson), so I knew not to worry about anything other than the firemen and the flames shooting over to my house. Needless to say, I was definitely kind of in shock at the whole ordeal and definitely worried.

It's all over now...they're investigating and cleaning up the piles of glass. The firemen even posed for a group picture, so obviously everything went well on their end.

Just a crazy morning.

Besides pets, nothing other than my wallet. After I got outside, and after everything settled down a bit, we were joking about what we would grab. I was saying that we would have looked kind of petty if I had grabbed my PS3 and XBOX.

Glad to hear you're alright. But after you gather your family and pets, I think that your game systems are the most important possessions :)

I'm agree with the others that it's great you're OK. I remember having a similar experience back in 1996, except it was my house that was in flames. Definitely frightening.

pics of pets pls thx

As someone who has been there done that, to an extent- good luck sleeping the next day or two. Glad to hear you are safe.

We had a crazy apartment fire at the complex we lived at in Lawrence a couple of years ago- took out 5 buildings and 3 people died. We were watching something at about 1am on the VCR and when we had turned it off, the cable was out, which was strange since there were no storms. A couple minutes later, someone came by and banged on the door- which was also odd for that time of the night. So I went outside and saw freaky stuff...
