I'm finally going to get some time with Puresim, think I'll start up a historical association on my birth year - 1971 and go from there.. it's been a LONG time since I last played PS.
Thanks Shaun!

Really LOVE the season browser!
Shaun, I want to thank you for taking the plunge and making PureSim a free product. I paid for PureSim a couple years back but never got a chance to really get into it--so you can count me among your customers. Depending on how much time I put into this new version of PureSim, I will put some money in your donation bucket. I have a lot of respect for what you're doing and wish you the best of luck.
How do you run an unattended sim of more than one year in sandbox mode!? It stops at the end of each season... and a lot of the check boxes in the quicksim optoins are greyed out as checked.

Roma: A lot of player pictures come with the game. I looked around in the puresim directory. They are in mods\faces.
cub: I believe they can be anywhere. From the team page, click on Change Team Logo and you get a normal windows file chooser.

Anywhere you like. You "install" them by using the Team Management -> Front Office screen for each team individually.
You can find logos for the game on my website, link in my sig.

I started a season in 2009. I am also wondering, why do many of my players show the same age (29), and their first season in MLB is 2009? Is this normal, or did I miss something in the setup process for a new season? Oddly enough, I can still look at their historical statistics.

Can't help with the "29" issue, but I can comment on the player photos. I've been lazy and haven't posted the 2009 player photo set that is sitting on my hard drive. Shaun actually put it together, so I expect he'll give me some crap for slacking off. ;)

Try 2008, the 2009 stuff is experimental/projected stats as of mid season, I probably should remove that from the official release.
Thanks for trying the game.

i've got a question - when i start a historical season it senses that the real schedule for that year is available and uses it, but then doesn't change it going forward. i've pointed them towards the right files each season and i've got the files in both text format and .PSC format, and i've restarted and pointed them towards the right files each season...i dunno what to do and i'm frustrated

RomaGoth
10-07-2009, 09:03 AM
Here you go Pumpy:
Last night I completed the negotiations and signed an agreement with Wolverine Studios, who have acquired the exclusive distribution rights to PureSim Baseball moving forward. The initial commercial Wolverine release will be "PureSim Baseball 2" and it will be available on 10/16. I continue to be the lead developer and director of development on the game, and I'll be a technical contributor to many of their other titles. Steven Lucey (CrashDavis) has also agreed to continue to work with me on PureSim, which actually was a critical part of the equation from my perspective.
Some of you may remember that I was once with Wolverine and was to deliver a new Baseball title for them, unfortunately for a number of private/personal/professional reasons I was unable to make that work, so we parted ways amicably. Since I dove back into PureSim earlier this summer and released the free version, things have really taken off with the game and it's features. Adding Steve to the team has been a huge boost as well.
Wolverine President, Gary Gorski had been following the progress with great interest. He was impressed enough with where we had taken PureSim that he made me an offer that I simply could not refuse.
I had two simple requirements in order to close this transaction:
1. Retain the "PureSim" brand/name, thus the Wolverine release is "PureSim Baseball 2"
2. Continue to offer the last official free version of PureSim (1.86) in perpetuity. I think PureSim 1.86 is a very solid game and I did not make it free only to take it down, Gary agreed totally, thus 1.86 will always be there as a great, free offering in the genre. I'd like to also thank Matrix for their support with releasing PureSim 2005 and 2007 and paving the way for the free release.
Moving forward, I am pouring my efforts into "PureSim 2", adding more polish, tweaks and features. Crash and I expect to keep a similar pace with updates moving forward as well. On 10/16 it will be released for purchase at Wolverine. Note, there were a few of you that donated to the PureSim cause over the last few months, you will each receive a free license to "PureSim 2."
Part of my agreement with Wolverine will involve me doing the primary communication with the customers on their forums, so I'll be living on the PureSim 2 Forum at Wolverine. This was actually the hardest part, as I love the small, but passionate community we've built here. I hope some of you will come over and continue to lend your insights into the game.
I'm looking forward to continuing to improve the game with Steve, and I'm excited about having even more resources at hand with Wolverine.
- Shaun

I will interested to see what could possibly be added to the pay Puresim going forward since the 1.86 version is just about feature complete for my tastes. Also, if someone wants a complete albeit over the top baseball game there is always the OOTP franchise. Not to threadjack this but I wish we could get someone to make a decent Pro Football game in stead of another baseball or soccer game.

I actually like the latest version of Baseball Mogul. They made the interface much more slick and the options are outstanding. I could never get into the OOTP series, there was just way too much clutter and navigation was very difficult, at least for me.

haha
i'm just baffled. i have all the files in both .psc format as well as .txt format (they are originally in there in .txt format but i changed it because when you go to manually import it will only let you select .psc). When I start a new association it recognizes the file (the text file) and pulls it in to setup the schedule, but then every year when I go to "options" and do "import schedule" it only allows you to select .psc schedules and doesn't change them. it also doesn't auto-sense the new schedules and update them.
idk what i'm doing wrong.

to my knowledge i import them (i mean i go to "options" and do "import schedule" and it gives me a file browser so i navigate to the right folder and select the appropriate .psc file (the file type is locked to psc, and before i copied all the files and converted them to .psc so that there are both .psc and .txt for each year i couldn't see anything), and then click "okay" on the options tab and go back into my game. I get the standard "loading" dialog box (nothing like when you start a league in a year and it says "found the schedule file...importing" (paraphrased that obviously).
And yet every year the schedule remains the same. (I mean unless every year between 1901 and 1915 Boston opened against Baltimore in Baltimore?).
Or is it a problem with the fact I'm so far back in history that the schedules are not accurate? I must confess I haven't tried it with more modern years.

Not sure if it deserves its own thread - but I got the email from Wolverine saying that they bought PureSim. Question - how is this good for the community?
I think this is great for the community (as well as Wolverine Studios of course). Both Shaun and I have some very unique and interesting features in our games and the opportunity for us to have PureSim and have Shaun working with us will allow us to share those features and improve all of our titles. In addition to that we'll be able to bring both the PureSim community and our current community together giving them one place to go and share their dynasties and what not and share them with a larger audience.
Yes, it does mean the end of "free PureSim" going forward - I did agree to allow Shaun to keep what is out there already available - but I've never thought that paying for a quality product was a bad thing and it only helps to ensure its future as well. In addition to that Shaun has added a developer to work with him - we all know that releases in our community have been few and far between lately - getting another person actively working on developing games will only help ensure that these kinds of games continue to be made. I know we're a niche market and I'm ok with that but I still think we're a market and a market that does want new games.
Of course this is great for Wolverine - after quite a hiatus we're really moving along now with the forthcoming releases of PureSim 2 and DDS: Pro Basketball 2 and Antuan is hard at work on Music Wars 2010 - I think that anything that keeps our company moving forward is a good thing not only for us but the entire community.

For some the 1.86 version will be all they ever want/need in a baseball game - others will I'm sure be intrigued by the additions that Shaun and Steven come up with and there will be some members of the community who will buy the game simply to give something back to Shaun and Steven for the work they put into the last few months completely revamping PureSim. But if the new content (or any post-release improvements) aren't enough to warrant a purchase from you then you might be more of a customer we're targeting in the future for PureSim 3 and beyond.
I agree OOTP is a great franchise but there's always room for competition. I mean look at your next comment - you want a "decent Pro Football" game and IMO Front Office Football is that and more - but that doesn't mean that we're not going to continue work on ours just because there is a good one that is available (heck maybe even Shaun ends up contributing on that)

Yes, it does for that league, but not for others. The league it does pop up for was setup as Real Major League Players - Career Mode. The one that doesn't was setup as PureSim Classic. Maybe that's the reason it's not working for you.

Shaun - any thoughts on what might be causing my schedule-importing failure dilemma?
I'm only in 1915 and I've paused my playing so that I can try to get it worked out - it wouldn't bother me if it was just for that tiny window of time and I could salvage the association - i've already got like 4-5 World Series for the Sox in that timeframe, but I don't want to go much further forward with it goofed like that.

Hellz no. As my brother put it "I'm considering it a failure if you don't outwin the Yankees."
My only issue is that being so good (overloaded with quality SP in particular), I'm missing out on so many of the great, iconic players that are coming up in the drafts.
And the trade-AI has them on like super-lockdown. I can offer 2-3 SP's who are exceptional (stuff >90, control >90) and be refused trades for a 19 year old Shoeless Joe for example. Sort of frustrating in some ways.

Agreed, FOH looks cool, but the lack of career mode is a total bummer.
We're going to have career play eventually - Brian Van Wyk (FOH developer) has devoted the last year simply trying to put the game back together in a useable format of a current programming language just so we could get even that version back on the market. It has been a massive challenge for him because the code was so old - I mean the game was released through .400 Software Studios in 2004 and I highly doubt the code was written just then.
Basically all Brian started with in redeveloping the game was the ability to see how the engine (which is very, very good) worked - he's had to put it back together from scratch. Once we get that version out he's going to turn his focus to making it a career sim.

not necessarily that difficult. started in 1901 and it's all about how the teams are developing over the years - it's divorced from real-life history as of 1901.

weird - i just ran a 2002 real player season forward into 2003 and it picked up both 2002 and 2003
*shrugs* maybe i'll just start over.
well i started over and it's still not working with the early 1900's schedules.
what gives!

Very wierd results for one team, using 1.86 clean install sandbox mode drafted fictional players 20 team/2 league/2 div per league, computer drafted all took over random team yr 1 which was 2000. One team is 9-118 while the rest have typical records. Lowest era on team is 9.86. Anyonelse getting odd results?
