Computer related:64 bit systems

I have upgraded my wife's and my laptops to new HPs with the 64 bit vista OS and had a question for anyone who knows. So far 64 bit is a real pain in the ass since there is no firefox compatible 64 bit browser and the windows explorer 64 bit does not support the adobe falsh player or vice a versa. Is there another option for 64 bit flashplayers like adobe and browsers other than explorer?

The 32-bit versions of both browsers work fine in Vista 64.

Minefield is the 64 bit Firefox browser, but you're still without Flash.

The incompatibilities will only continue to increase on Win 7 64 bit - assuming you take advantage of the free upgrade.

Thanks I was not aware of minelfeild. I guess eventually ADOBE WILL HAVE A 64 BIT FLASH PLAYER SINCE MOST NEW PCS/ LAPTOPS ARE COMING OUT WITH 64 BIT SYSTEMS MORE AND MORE.

The normal, 32-bit versions of all three (IE, FF, Chrome) work perfectly under vista 64. There have been absolutely no compatibility issues for a long time now.

I am not sure what you mean by this statement. The 32-bit browsers work just fine, and security is reasonable and about the same.

But yes the main issue is that most plugins are 32-bit and so won't work on the 64-bit browsers. Right now that is up to the plugin makers like Adobe to fix.

Yes, you are right the browser's security should be the same regardless of whether it is 64 or 32 . My experiences are purely anecdotal so it maybe just my experience. The 32 bit browser for Friefox running vista 64 runs slower at times but that could be more to say about the store bought HP I got for my wife. And I agree it is up to the apps 9plugin) makers to make compatible options for 64 bits OS'.

Not my experience or my IT Security engineers/PC architecture staff under me either. I would caution anyone to use the adjective "Perfectly" especially in IT:)

I haven't heard of any major issues with 32-bit browsers and Vista x64.

Neither have I. From my "IT Security engineer/PC architecture" standpoint the only differences I've seen in managing a heterogeneous environment is deploying multiple versions of software packages and making sure both 32 and 64bit print drivers are available.

Neither of which are much of an issue if you have any architectural ability at all.

Unless you are running some archaic piece of software or a shitty internally developed app (running Citrix for our shitty app), 64bit Windows is almost a complete non-issue compared to even 1 year ago.
