How much do you want to read? The first layer was the 8 issue mini. Second layer was a crapload of three to four issue minis that spotlighted a particular character or group. Then the thing crossed over into most every regular Marvel title those months.

Here's a fairly complete list. (http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Secret_Invasion) There are at least 27 TPB compilations covering the meat of the event, and it looks like several of the minis may not have been published yet in TPB form.

Yeah I was at my comic store yesterday and there is a shit ton of TPBs involving so many different groups that I just gave up on it.

Marvel also released a series called Secret Invasion Chronicles which reprinted the main issues in chronological order, 2-3 issues in one.

Okay so what is up with the 200 plus page graphic novels like Secret Invasion: Infiltration, Secret Invasion and Secret Invasion: Who Do You Trust? Definitely very confusing.

Okay looking over this what is the TPB that you guys mentioned?

Has anyone kept up with the series? I am just wondering if it is worth my time and of course money to pickup the individual issues or should i just go with the Chronicles? Is there a time line that will show me which issues to read and what order if i decided to pickup the individual issues?

Just a little bump, don't want the post to get too far down.

Okay i figured out what TPB means. After some searching i am even more confused. It seems there are a whole bunch of comics to read in order to get this whole Secret Invasion thing. It sure would be nice if there were a compilation of the stories and tie ins into several TPB. Wow it may take me a a while to figure out what to buy to get the whole story.

Okay, if you want to start with the very first time readers got a look at what was going to happen in SECRET INVASION, pick up New Avengers #31. The cliffhanger ending to that issue was the inciting incident for the whole enchilada. From that point Secret Invasion: Infiltration should pick up on lots of the other pre-Secret Invasion hints.

That should dovetail nicely into the Secret Invasion 8 issue miniseries. As you read that, you'll see that on several occasions, we cut to a scene featuring characters who seem to come out of nowhere. Each of those represent different hero populations on Earth and how they deal with the Skrull threat:

SI:X-Men explains why our mutie buddies aren't in New York with the rest of our heroes.
SI: Front Line gives the 'man on the street' perspective, with mostly regular people as main characters.
SI: Inhumans relies heavily on exposition found in the 'Illuminati' miniseries.
SI: Fantastic Four expands on a key scene in SI #1

Then you've got the Avengers family of comics during this time period (New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, MS. Marvel, Initiative, Thunderbolts) which wind up giving a lot of between the panels action that happen in the main sequence. Secret Invasion is pretty much an Avengers-oriented event and the writer of the New Avengers series was dropping hints all the way back in issue #1 about what was to come.

Finally, you've got titles like Deadpool, Captain Britain, Hercules, and She-Hulk which have a little to do with the event, but aren't essential to the story. Alot of these titles clue you in on the personal relationships between one or two of the principals among the invaders and the heroes.

Then after THAT, there was a series of "Aftermath" issues which picked up the pieces. Also, the "Dark Reign" storyline proceeded almost immediately upon the end of this event, so you'll come up against that.

Pick up the 30's issues of New Avengers, Infiltration, the regular Secret Invasion mini, and read them. Then wiki the rest, figure out who you want to read about, and go from there (the Initiative stuff, I think, is one of the offshoot stories that's fairly important).

Hope this helps.

That is retardedly complicated. We should not need a flere diagram to purchase comic books.

That is retardedly complicated. We should not need a flere diagram to purchase comic books.

The phrasing "Buy and read pretty much every non X-Men Marvel comic published from August 2007 to February 2009 in the order it was published" has the advantage of brevity, but at this late date lacks something in the way of identification. Marvel still writes for the serialized form.

After finding what appears to be a pretty comprehensive list of the order as well as what comics to read i must say that Marvel really just used this as ploy to sell more monthly issues. Hey if this strategy works for them then all the better. Rather than spend the cash trying to get every issue i am seriously considering getting a subscription to Marvel Digital online. I am not excited about having to be at my computer to read them but i do have a laptop so i can take it with me. I really cannot justify buying all of the issues i need to.

What do you guys think and has anyone else used the digital comics?
